How many of you guys have owned short-geared MT cars?

I know general rule of thumb is try to keep it under 3000 rpm when driving a car cold, but I live right off a 45 mph road, and first gear in the Jetta is short as hell. Getting any sort of reasonable acceleration means winding up the engine, which is tons of fun once it's warm.

When it's cold and I shift before 3k, I don't even make it halfway across the intersection before shifting.

You just have to plan your merges more carefully.

I live on a main street with a 35 mph limit... I've been honked at a couple of times when I first started driving

Im lucky that the roads in my current development are long enough that the car can warm up properly. My Civic had short gearing, but I didnt care about that motor and beat on it when it was cold. My Prelude had short gearing, and enough torque to get the car going at lower rpms. Same with the FR-S. The CL I could start off in second (though I didnt like to).

As Costco said, plan your merges carefully. If it gets to the point where you're constantly revving it up when cold, either get a block heater or let the car warm up for a bit longer before you leave in the morning. I typically let the car warm up enough for the IACV to close during the summer, and about a minute in the winter.

No merging really, but there are traffic lights on the street, so I just don't want to accelerate too slowly from a stop. Maybe I'll stick to the truck lane.

Ordered a set of Lorenzo WL28s (black) for the FX50S. They'll be my winter wheels going forward.

21". He posted about them in the 3G Ramblings thread. I knew I read it somewhere else.

It's a revisit back to my quandary about what winter wheels I should get. Many of the peeps who provided me suggestions recommended that I look for 18s or 22s and find a way to get rid of my existing Blizzaks.

The problem is that well, after doing number crunching, this option was not cost-effective. I would be spending close to $3500K because I would need new rubbers and rims. And plus, I would have to get rid of a set of used 21" Bridgestone rubbers.

After some negotiating I was able to get a set of Lorenzo WL28s at 21" for just a bit over $2200CDN all in (tax, mounting, and etc.). That's the route I decided to go.

I think black rims will look nice with the white color of my car.

Someone thats dead inside

Its been a few months since I looked at used NSXs, but his price seems a bit ambitious.

Price is just a little over what it should be. Anyone digging around can find a 1995 model with 25,000 less miles for a little more than $35,000.

Then again, the NSX market is really tough to figure out. 15 years of manufacturing makes it hard to determine how much a car is worth vs. the mileage/issues.

I've seen clean '95s sell as low as $22k and some not so clean '91s sell for $30k.

Then theres the price bump for the '97-01 models, and then the enormous bump for the 02-05s. Those are still selling for $55k+.

As much as I love the engine put in the ZL1, I feel like Chevy went to Rubbermaid and got scrap pieces out of a bin and threw them on the car.

I hate their respective owners.

In the minority, but I like the additions. I think it makes it look as aggressive as it deserves.

I worked at a Chevy event in late August and got to spend some time with one.

I love the NSX, but if there are brand-new cars that can out-perform it for the same money, something's wrong.

A '69 Camaro SS will be beaten by a V6 Camry or Accord. That doesn't make it a bad car. I think you're missing the point of the NSX, or any other older performance car.

yeah, you buy an NSX today because you want to own an NSX - not because you want to win dragraces.
