As far as the V10 M5 is concerned... Back in about 2008 I had a boss who drove one. I remember someone was riding shotgun with him, cruising down the highway... He was like "want to see what this M button does when you hit it?" And the passenger was like "fuck yeah, let's open it up!"
...and so he pushed it.... And subsequently must have fried the computer when he did
dash lit up like a Christmas tree, car died, something horrendous happened. I dont know what the ultimate culprit was, but it was electrical related and it involved a tow truck and being stuck on the side of the highway with a very pricey car
E60 M5 does sound nice with a modified exhaust (straight piped)
But it doesn't come close to the W220 S600 with a modified exhaust (straight piped)
V12 > V10

So what that "M" button did is: Open wallet, exit money.
Man, just looked at V3s for shits and giggles and dude....they are getting lower in price! 2016 CTS-V3 can be had in the low 60s to upper 50s.....dang, maybe it'll be in the 40k range in another couple years? Maybe....one can dream.....
Just hope GM keeps the V alive. They've cut the Wagon and I'm sure the V3s are probably not selling as well as when the V2s....hopefully it'll survive another generation at least.....

It's no surprise they cut the coupe and wagon... I bet the sedan itself sold just as many, if not more, than the two combined.
The coupe is ugly... the backend is just looking. The wagon is pretty cool, though. But... north americans apparently hate wagons, so you know.
Another dude said a dealer rod bearing service was less than 5k, though a diff shop quoted up to 9500 for VANOS + rod bearings.
Looks like ttribe actually owned a E60 M5!!! I probably missed that thread, but honestly it's not looking too too bad.....looks like have to go for 6MT at least and avoid SMG altogether...
edit: ttribe - just saw your post...looks like you got the M5 in 2011? That thread is 46 pages long...lol, a quick and dirty TLDR of your E60 M5 ownership experience? I can realistically swing a M5 potentially in the near future, but gotta really know what I'm getting myself into of course....lol, appreaciate any wisdom
Pages 10-15 of that thread are probably the ownership experience you are looking for.
Here's the executive summary - I loved the car. It was incredible to drive. It had quirks (SMG at low speeds was clunky) but was so worth it. It was expensive to own, and I didn't have any major issues. Nothing about that car is ever cheap. It's not as bad as an exotic, but don't expect it to be a Honda, either. I got rid of it because of some changes in my personal financial situation and because my commute was just too long to justify the cost.
I've read about people whose ultimate dream car in life is a Mary Kay pink cadillac......
The first car I ever done was a 2003 Mary Kay DeVille. That car was such a piece of shit lol. Everything in the interior started falling apart in the 30,000 we had it. The Northstar engine leaked even though it was new too.
Luckily they give you a new one every 2 years so everything was under warranty, but still. Never buy a Cadillac with those engines, terrible cars.
The northstar platform is notorious. Shop hours just to remove the trans is like 12 hours. Fuck that.
Not only that but it still had a 4 speed automatic until 2011 when they discontinued the model lol. I can't say enough terrible things about that platform.
To this day my mom says when she retires and stops getting the free cars that she will never consider a Cadillac. Some of their new models are nice, but having Northstar after Northstar pretty much ruined her on the brand.

Sometimes, even when you try to do everything right, disaster happens. Such was the case when this Porsche 959 suffered some pretty major front-end damage, despite it being hauled in an enclosed car trailer. Imagine walking up to your trailer and seeing this.
This 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort was listed on Mecum Auction's site a few days ago, in anticipation of the huge auction at Monterey later this week. Despite the photos clearly showing the car's heavy front-end damage, no explanation as to how the damage occurred was provided in the Mecum listing.
And make no mistake, the damage is pretty severe. The car lost its passenger-side front wheel, and the steering knuckle and brake rotor are no longer attached to the steering mechanism. As Mecum demonstrates in a rather ghoulish video, the car still runs and drives, and the driver's-side front suspension and steering seem to operate normally, but man, this is not a happy machine.
For days, the nature of this Porsche's damage has remained a mystery, but today, our colleague Alex Stoklosa over at Car and Driver got the scoop. A Mecum representative told Car and Driver that during transit, the trailer that was hauling the 959 detached from its tow vehicle, careened off the road, and collided with a tree.
