what does it mean? exactly? like you are not going to get from point a to b in rush hour? that your engine is going to detonate? that you might not get the best mpg or acceleration? don't worry you will still get to where you are going in a timely manner...

I think he's being irrational. He's concerned about a plastic intake on a car that has been designed not to eat its own intake. If he's that concerned about it, then he must assume Subaru is incompetent ... So why buy one?

mind my ignorance, but cars dont normally have plastic intakes??? (cars normal people drive at least.) I thought they pretty much all would! My Acura had one and I dont think there was a single crack in it after 13 years 
plastic is more durable than you think. Only air should be going in there, why would it crack and such...

mind my ignorance, but cars dont normally have plastic intakes??? (cars normal people drive at least.) I thought they pretty much all would! My Acura had one and I dont think there was a single crack in it after 13 years plastic is more durable than you think. Only air should be going in there, why would it crack and such...

On the LS1 there are people who have gone 250k+ mi on the factory composite intake manifold and they've only replaced the gaskets. There are other guys who use composite manifolds and run turbos/nitrous without issue.
And yes, I do track my car, so I am concerned about heat soak. More so than the manifold falling apart. I am much more worried about BMW and VW/Audi using plastic cooling system parts.

plastic thermostat housings
plastic coolant hose sections
so on...
I've seen all of those things break. Intake manifolds, not so much.
and what about plastic valve covers? Many cars have plastic valve covers, which are get doused with extremely hot oil, oil which can exceed coolant temperatures by 50-70 F.

If you think heat soak is not an issue in a daily driver, you have not driven enough cars or have always lived somewhere that doesn't get very hot.
Even driving on the street, you encounter issues with cars in summer here in CA. The temperature swing from winter to summer here can be as little as 40 degrees. People still notice... case in point, I think 3G TL owners are very familiar with the loss of power in summer temps, especially on 91 octane.
Plastic (more accurately, composite) intake manifolds are fine.

Go as the rest of the GM crowd about having to replace intakes due to cracking, parts rattling, etc because it was made out of plastic. There are quite a few of them and YT is full of people showing others how to fix it...

While we're on VWs, I've decided I hate driving my mom's 03 Passat. It has every dynamically negative trait you can think of. It's slow, shifts rough, has the throttle response of a duck, gets poor fuel economy, has plenty of body roll, no grip, and a rough ride.
Everything about it sucks. Except the key. I like the switchblade key.

They just fired the head of the MQB platform. The launch was not a smooth one and they've been paying the Wolfsburg peeps overtime to fix things.
They need to strongly consider replacing their head of NA operations too.

I had a '13 Passat TSI Wolfsburg for a rental for a week. Nice peppy little car & got pretty good MPG.
