General Car Talk Discussion Thread
Have ttribe in mind specifically because I know he loves BMW's art cars...
Anyhow, just an FYI that the preorder on Amazon is up for "BMW Art Cars" (hardcover). Looks to be a must-have for any fan and well, lovely coffee-table book too.

Does anyone keep track of how much they spend monthly on their car including: payments, gas, maintenance, and insurance??
Costco, JS+BRZ this is mostly for you since i want that brz lol, but it would still be interesting to hear everyone elses. I know its new so maintenance costs are well none and there's so much variability in this stuff so i can't really use it for myself but its a good starting point.

But one of the other things I do is have my direct deposit split to a separate bank account and then the bill autopaid out of there. I never see the money and so I never have to worry about if the bill is paid.
I do via Mint. Helps track spending and when I go over budget.

THis would basically determine my goal for how big a down payment I want to put, since that is the easiest way to control monthly costs in a budget.

Payments = $290 i think
Maintenance = Free for 3 yrs by Subaru
Insurance = $100 per month
I don't really keep track of them separately. It's a fairly cheap car with pretty good gas mileage.
I would keep track of everything, if I own a 911.
Gas = my work covers it. I average around 25mpg per tank. I rev it up like crazy.

if you own a 911, keep track of MPG is the last thing on your list.

Lucky that gas is covered by work haha. I get $40 for mileage twice a month for work. Which covers only 1 tank of gas in my corolla. I probably go through 4-5 tanks a month.
I think I put down like $12k and got 1.1% APR for 60 months. The car was like $26,200 or something.
This was my first new car loan. I would have put more down, but my brother (former car sales manager) told me to put down less. My monthly payment is nuts, but it doesn't really matter aside a shitload of rainy day money. As in be unemployed for 1+ yr and still be perfectly okay.
was this part of your deal? I don't think Subaru offers this. Is it 3 yrs warranty? I know Scion offers 2 yrs free maintenance.

Ahh thats a big down payment. Man I wish I worked during school so I could have started paying down my loans. That shit is holding me back haha. Could have easily bought the 2015 brz whenever it came out if i didnt have any loans
Then again you could get married and throw all your money away on a wife and ungrateful kids.

$321/month for the car, $100 for insurance, $60 a week on gas, $40 a week in tolls, & maintenance is usually just oil changes done by a friend at work. The work beyond that are merely modifications.
I hear you. Hopefully, you're making as little as you ever will over the course of the rest of your career ... So, while you are being responsible about not getting a BRZ right now it might me you're about to get a M3 later (or whatever you want).

I'm fine with a BRZ in a little later then a M3 after.. Two reasons. My parents are still paying for this corolla so I want to give it back to them and let them do whatever they want with it. And I can't drive a corolla for the next 5 years, i'll go crazy lolUmmm I want to guess most americans?? If people kept track of their expenses they wouldnt buy things they couldnt afford and we wouldnt have been in a recession..

Hey everyone I'm new to the tl game and have a couple of questions. Got the 06 tl with 86k on it. The previous owner said he but 08 rims and side mirrors and bumpers. They are Falling Off A Little Bit How Can I Fix That Other Than Double Sided tape. The tpms says psi 58 then says check pressure after driving a mile or 2. And the stock speakers sound horrible. Any help would be great.
Why I'm not particularly fond of using credit cards unless it's a large purchase over $1,000.
I dont. I dont feel a need to track what i spend on the car. Not to mention when i fill up on average everyday i dont want to know what im spending on fuel.
Re: reliability these days
my friend got his SLS Black Series in January, it is in the shop now because it needs the transmission replaced. Why? A bad sensor. Apparently it has happened to several SLSBS's.
The transmission won't come in until June, he ain't too happy about that. They gave him some incentives and a 2014 S550 as a loaner.
