Look mang, only OLDER BMW cars disintegrate in Canadian winters. New ones hold up much better...although, the lack of a block heater is kinda le lame.

Oh, I stated the reasons in my new car thread.

The main reason was that I can't really mod the car. Everything's way too expensive.

There's no doubt M3 was a complete BEAST.

Why would you mod an M3...?

Being the , you should've bought the unmoddable car to save $$$...

Because I like.. modding?

I would rather spend $4k-5k on FI kit over BMW extended warranty.

But yeah, I never overspend on mods. That's not much of a problem.

Still think you should've bought the M3 if the M3 was in play.

But, it's all good. Congrats on the new ride still...it's a good car. I'm just biased for M3s.

This. I know several owners and they all rave about its reliability in addition to all the things that make it special.

Was it not the e46 M3s that had exploding engine issues...?

Otherwise, the recent M3s are solid cars.

Yeah, there's no major issues on the e9x M3. Trust me, I was on m3post for like 12 hours in couple days researching. Checked in with Crazy Sellout as well.

But the majority of M3 owners on the forum were trying to buy the extended warranty when they were out of it. Why? Because if something does happen, it's going to be EXPENSIVE.

I just didn't want to deal with any of that.

With a BRZ, I can rack as much mileage as possible without really worrying about anything.

More than anything though, wanted something more "lighter". I could have just gotten a very slightly used 335i and mod it for cheap. But, it's not a light car either.

FA20 long block - $4k used, $7k new
High pressure fuel pump - $1200
Transmission - $3k-ish new

And it doesn't take a rare occurrence to blow one of these motors. The direct injector seals are known to fail, which leads to blown motors if you don't catch it in time. Keep an ear out for any odd popping noises at cold start.

I'm not trying to scare you, but it is a first year model and a brand new motor.

So see...buy the extended warranty on the M3...and voila. No worry about anything.

Just don't mod too much. Since you wanna balance the cost and keep the warranty intact.

Just ribbing ya.

But, put it this way, coming from a guy who passed up an M3 before: You're gonna regret it.

If I do regret not getting a M3 in the near future, I can just sell BRZ and get the M3. No problem there. Don't think that will happen though.

I've driven my friend's Cayman a lot before. BRZ has the same driving feel. It's incredible for such a cheap car.

I've put on 400 miles so far. It's weird because I feel like.. I want to mod the suspension parts, not go fast goodies.

Those on FT86Club would argue that suspension parts are go fast goodies.

Dude...a BRZ does NOT feel like a Cayman. No way.

I'm sorry but there is no way a mid-engine 2-seater can feel like the BRZ...were you half-drunk/high when driving the Porsche?

A lot of Cayman/Boxster owners traded their cars in for a twin. I think that says a lot. I know one guy that frequents the local Cars and Coffee that has a Boxter Spyder, and he raves about the handling of the twins. We made a deal with each other to swap cars for a track day. Obviously the straight line speed of the Cayman/Boxster is superior, but the chassis feel is on par between the two.

Any track junkies on AZine?

Thinking of hitting the local track next month to get some lessons and participate.

Don't know what to do in terms of preparation except to get a helmet.

Which helmet do people usually get?

Local? Street of willow or buttonwillow?

Helmet 1st, and New tires 2nd. Unless you are a drift king, you will be spinning nonstop with those Prius tires.

I would bring 1 spare tire and tools. Don't go by urself, go with at least 2 cars.
oh and get the AAA extended towing coverage just in case if you break something if you are planning to track it regularly.

Not to scare you, it is a small price to pay for a peace of mind.

This one: 2014 86CUP #1 - Streets of Willow Springs - Jan 18, 2014
http://www.extremespeedtrackevents.com/

Got it. Thanks for the tip.

Helmet + New tires.

Will ask about the extended towing coverage.

Which helmet do you have? Have zero idea what/where people get.

I don't go to track often enough to justify buying a helmet. I usually just borrow my friend's motorcycle helmet.
are you going to be done with your break-in in 16 days?

In your case with a white BRZ...a Stormtrooper helmet.

The guy who runs this track session got back to me. He recommends me to just rent a helmet for the first time.

And I can just do the stock class. He said for the first timers, they don't have to prepare anything.

Guess the beginners get class room lessons and a lead follow sessions. :noob:

Sounds fun!

Best plan is to rent a helmet there. Not all helmets are certified for all programs/tracks. Find out what you need, and most importantly if you like it, before you start spending lots of money.

Oh, and to add one more thing to that list:

1) Helmet
2) Tires
3) GoPro

It's 20 below here and you guys are talking about track days. Very jealous.

It's cool that you can rent helmets though. I've heard some tracks loan helmets, but they go quick. And they're pretty expensive to buy.

GoPro sucks.. get a Sony Actioncam. The AS-10 is like $99 now. Way better, and has image stabilization.

I'm going to trade in the Focus. This particular car is built like 18 monkeys assembled it. I have never heard so many creaks and rattles in a car with 12k miles on it. I'm going to lose my ass but I cannot stand this car.

Don't know what I'm going to replace it with when I do trade it (probably when I'm done school in May). I have two dogs and one car now.

I was thinking of a 2011 A6 3.0T Avant but they are huge and I have to be able to park in a garage in DC at least once a week.

I would look at a TSX wagon but I have a feeling they are slow and not that enjoyable to drive. I really need two cars again.

I was looking at that when it first came out, but the reviews seemed to point to the GoPro as far as a winner goes. I do like the form factor of the Actioncam though, especially for mounting on helmets.

It looks very promising. I need to see it in person though; in pics the rear end looks weird.

You just have shit luck when it comes to cars.
