Seriously curious, not knocking it. The science behind it is interesting to me.
Is there a track with a straightaway long enough for this car to reach 100+ mph on?

I'm not saying you won't be hitting 100 MPH, but when you'll want to see improvements in downforce etc is to keep traction in turns, right? Maybe I don't understand the point of it. I'm just saying, at 100MPH...100 pounds of down force, but at 40, it might be 10. I don't know, just trying to understand how useful this really is in a real world application. As for a group of people saying they feel like it helped or their track times were incrementally better, I'm not convinced it's not somewhat placebo.

Again, trying to understand it, not knock it.

I concur with Jeremy....

I am eager to know more about it as well....drag and downforce are good/great on the track, but if you are daily driving the car, wave good bye to gas mileage and many other things...either way, eager to know more

Just admit it, there's a hardparker in all of us. It looks cool. And that's fine... to a point.

i am not 100% expert on this but from i have experienced and heard that you don't need to reach 100 mph to generate downforce.

The whole point of downforce is to keep the car more stable in the straight, corner and during hard braking from a long straight into a corner.

people who are turning at 50, 60 or even 70 mph in turns without braking (you are GG if you brake in corners) need the extra help from downforce to keep the rear of the car on the ground. The help of the GT wing will not be as significant as at 100+mph in the corner but it will help nevertheless.

that is why you also see some of the cars also have GT wing in the front as well as in the rear to keep all 4 wheels "more" on the ground to create better tractions in the corners.

More traction in the corners = more confidence/higher speed in the corner.
Please keep in mind that not every turn is a 30mph turn on the track, some of the big turns requires no braking at all, you just turn and hit the apex and accelerate the car out of the corners, where the GT wing will help alot in the sudden maneuvers.

Also after a long straight at 100mph+ (Button willow CCW), you will go into a 40mph corners (almost 90 degree turn) and you want to brake as late as possible, cars will become very unstable during extreme braking.

Sometimes, the difference between pushing the car to the limit and spinning out could be just the a little downforce.

With that being said, a lot of the people on the track have not even reached the car's full capabilities yet where they will need the little help for improvement. They want the GT wing for the track look. Similar to carbon fiber, it was supposed to be functional and created for a single purpose but now it has become a look.

oonowindoo summed it up very nicely.

Yes! You do realize that our cars can corner REALLY fast, right? lol

@SoW, I hit +100mph on both straights. MUST BE THE K&N DROP IN FILTER!

@Chuckwalla, I'm constantly going +100mph. Literally all corners were like 60-70mph. It was designed as a motorcycle track so the track has a lot of long fast sweepers.

I was just joking about the car's power. People complain about it on ft86club ALL the time.

I mean, it takes like 15 seconds for me to accelerate to 60 mph. Toyota is literally Hitler. I don't know why I bought this car, it's dangerous to drive... can't make it onto onramps safely!

Yeah, those are the people who would shit their pants, if they ever get to the track.

And they are the ones who wrap their cars around the tree and fall off the cliff doing tofu delivery.

Sold the last two stock wheels I had. Everything's gone finally.

Took me quite awhile but I made $650 total. Considering pretty much new stock tire and wheel combo trades around 350 bucks, I think I did pretty good. haha

Haha glad you having fun on track.
Yeah true about the grip but now I actually started thinking about what I will do when winter comes back in Boston.
I actually like that ducktail spoiler too, but oh well..

And have you heard anything about the alarm on the BRZ not being activated from the factory?
Mine wasn't and I just activated it today.

You get inside the car, close the door, turn on the ignition but don't start the car
Hit the lock button on the door, and then hit the unlock button + while holding it, open the door.
Wait 10 secs, display will say "AL on"

I might keep the stockies for stupid fun. The tail is so easy to kick out and yet so controllable. Just like a Miata, the back end almost catches itself.

I activated it, but I think it the sensitivity needs to be adjusted. I unlock the car using the standard keyless method (hand in door handle), but it went off a couple of times, after the doors unlocked and I sat down.

It says AL off?

Wait, what?

I activated it, and it said 'AL on'. But I turned it off because of the aforementioned issue.

nm, "it went off" meaning the alarm kicked in and the horn honked, lights flashed, etc. It didn't turn off.

Oh I see, I kicked the tires and blah blah, it didn't go on. That's where my mind went, when you said sensitivity needs to be adjusted.

Going to visit this local racing gear shop called Sube Sports. Wife wanted me to check out the helmets and gloves. I told her I don't need them yet, but she told me to check them out anyway.

Woot Woot!
