Yes, of course! haha

That + Nexus 7 + Torque Pro set up has been working great!

You should get one if you are interested. It's super affordable and effective set up to monitor all kinds of stuff.

The problem is I use iPhone.

When you plug that into your car (with ignition on), do you have some kind of blinking light?

Oh is it different for iPhone?

It's hidden under the dash, so I can't really see it. But when I put my hand under to see if there's any light, there's this very dim green light on the top of the device.

I didn't use torque much at first, but now I just leave the dongle in. I'm trying to figure out a way to make a mount that I can fit behind my gauge hood for the HUD mode.

Truly an awesome app.

This thing doesn't work with iPhone unless the iPhone is jailbroken. Unfortunately, I didn't do my homework before buying it. Good thing is that I got it for free (technically used my reward points to buy this).

So I finally got my car washed.

I noticed there are a lot of rockchips on both side of the cars. I think I got them at the tracks.

Any idea how to get rid of them? There are a lot on lower side panels.

if they're deeper than the clear, no way really, wetsand, compound buff, but you'll need to decide if it's worth thinning the clear down to that level to rid yourself of them. if it's mainly bumper, you could technically sand, then have it cleared thick over it, then maybe 3M over that for the future?

Sucks, man.

Step 1 - Buy DeLorean with a flux capacitor;
Step 2 - Drive said DeLorean with a flux capacitor at 88mph;
Step 3 - Time travel back to the day you bought the BRZ;
Step 4 - Tell the guy in finance you WILL buy the clear bra he was trying to sell you;
Step 5 - Drive on track to your heart's desire without chipping your paint.

If that doesn't work, what rockstar said.

this guys knows...

I'll add to that, buy 2nd Delorean in preparation for your next travel back to the moment RIGHT before you drove the 1st one to 88MPH and inevitably ALSO put paint chips in that.

Oh wait...bare aluminum body FTW.

Damn... let me see how much STi style side skirt covers the panel from the bottom.

Maybe I can get the side to hide the little scratches.

I don't think the side skirts cover it.

I was reading how everyone argues about rockchip due to car being low.

I don't think I got these on the public road. I remember getting rocks thrown at me at the track following these slow cars.

The good news is, that in MY opinion...that is hot asphalt from the "chips" that scuffed your paint. Your base coat isn't black...so black tells me that it's a scuff ON the paint. You can TRY clay, or a light compound but the easiest and fastest solution if it'll work is:

Get some Goof Off. Not goo gone, not cum remover. GOOF OFF...specifically. Get a paper towel as well as windex or something else to spray on it immediately after to stop the chemical reaction. Put some on a paper towel and try to quickly scrub the black off the paint. It'll likely come right off...as soon as it does, IMMEDIATELY spray and wipe down with windex or soapy water. Test in a hidden area to be safe.

Good luck.

If that doesn't work, you may want to do more research on this.

I dunno how well it works with pearl finishes, but it looks nice and easy. Less of a PITA than touch-up paint.

Some of the 86 guys were suggesting me this too. Clay bar. They said it might just be some rubber gums from the track.

I'll try it tonight...

Yep...the chemical stripping power of the goof off will make quick work of it, man. I really don't think it's a chip. It's a smear.

giant wheels with sticky tires = rock chips.

Any road surface, any speed, every turn, etc.

Thinking of doing a 5-7 day road trip myself.

Will take my BRZ.

Any route suggestions? Would love to drive to nice windy road in different region.

I'd like to see further out the windshield.

The company that I have worked for almost 5 years is going to be closing in a month. Our biggest client has shafted us with some major BS and hammered us. The timing for everything is just so very off for our agency and there's no way for us to muscle through the crisis. Consequently, everyone at the office is being laid off.

I actually have been planning to switch to another agency from last year, so I'm not really frustrated. Just really, really sad to see that my first job out of college is being closed like this. The agency has been a blessing for me. They have sponsored me and wife for the green cards. Everyone at the agency was all very tight like a family.

Anyway, so yeah, the trip will be just me. Wife actually wanted me to take a break and do something like this to clear up my head.

And forgot to follow up on the rock chip issue. Seems like the side skirt will cover 80% of the chips that I have right now.

There's a local shop that sells the entire STi styled kit for like $250. I will eventually pick it up, paint them in gloss black, and install it on my car.

But then I want to get myself a set of coilover before, so I'm cool for now!

That sucks but you know you were not going to stay there forever.

When you are comfortable at a place, it is hard for you to be motivated to find a better/bigger place to work at. think of this as an opportunity for you to move up since you were probably at the dead end job anyways from what you described.

It is a good thing and hopefully they gave you a decent severance package.

i'd suggest to stop by Vegas first, you know all by yourself!!

You are right.

When I told my wife about the news, she was like hey that's like good and bad news mixed in together! haha

Hopefully I'll receive a decent severance package too. Will be applying for EDD right when I get out.

I've started on getting my resume and account portfolio ready. Should be done by next week. Will be applying for the agencies that handle automotive companies. Gratefully, I've found couple good leads and referrals.

In the meantime, I'm going to do some research on driving up north in PCH. Seems like that route is very favorable for the car enthusiasts.

Yes. I'm certainly going to miss the days a lot.

I have received the news on this Monday and have been feeling as if I've broken up with a gf back in high school.

Just have to move on and take this as an opportunity for me to finally turn the page in my career!

they can be removed within 5 mins.

I dont even think clay bar is necessary. all you need is some wax/compound and a buffer or some very strong arms.

Definitely recommend driving up PCH. Amazing view driving by the coast. It's probably my favorite freeway, with its curves and elevation changes.

Sorry to hear about the job man. If you drive as far as the bay area let me know.

The car had a flat tire and was out of battery. I didn't drive it out for over a month til today.

Now, she's all fixed and cleaned.

Ready for the road trip next week.

I'm going to take PCH up north from LA to SF, then take 5 to Oregon. Wifey said I have to be back in 4 days so... hopefully it will work out. haha

Pretty damn excited though! My first road trip with it!

Have been updating my resume and preparing my account portfolio. Will probably start the recruiting process from the last week of this month. My friend introduced me her headhunter so will have to get some help from her as well.

Hopefully by October, I will have something. Excited and nervous at the same time, but I'm so very glad that my wife is happy that I'm finally moving on from my first job out of college. She knows exactly how much I wanted to move out of it ever since I had received my green card last summer. haha
