But its styling, no point in debating.

Fix the front grille of the Hyundai, along with the rear side panels....and we have a winner!

And for the last time, to Educate these ignorant fools who think Hyundai Genesis copied G37, Hyundai genesis is evolution design from 1996-2000 Hyundai Tiburon. The same design group developed this car.

Notice the side profile shape of the car.
Also the slanted front headlight and taillight.

so.. msl82 officially came back?? was he banned or something??

anyways, back on topic..

They should have kept the front end of the car hefty(?) like the concept. The production model look so tiburon-ish next to the concept picture.

As far as the rear side windows goes... this would've been much better

I read from Korean news that Genesis stopped on the middle of the road while driving. The reporter said the car showed all the warning lights on the dash and when he push down on the accel, the car wasn't accelerating while the rev is going up.

So much for the "premium brand"

And he's really stretching by calling the Tiburon's derivative styling as the father of the Genesis's design. The only thing the Genesis coupe shares with the Tiburon is the fact that they both have 2 doors. Other than that, there is no single design language evolution. And thank goodness for that.

The Genesis doesn't look as expensive as the G37, but I really like the styling (including the rear window). IMO Genesis rear > G37 rear, but the G's headlights are nicer.

Stop crying about it. Here is the picture without rear side window dip. Notice how immediately something looks missing, its too GENERIC and BLAND, LIKE 100% of the coupe cars out there.

I am glad they made that distinctive design thats only for this Genesis coupe. Every future genesis coupe will have this rear window dip, it separate from other 99% coupe cars. Good job Hyundai!!

1) Not crying about it, just saying.

2) Your PS sucks. Look at the one in yohan's post...much better. And the car looks better with the flat window, too. All of that Tiburon-esque styling on the side is enough.

I'm glad you like it, though; some of us don't and we're going to say so. Get over it.

Rough translation of the Korean text:

Above the Concept: "All of you are dead. Don't even think about getting in my way (in front of me). I (in the respectful form) am pissed off."

Above the Production version: "Ahhh... I'm boring.." ??

My Korean is a little rusty since I hardly speak/read it these days.

I guess even the Koreans agree that the Production version is boring.

But who cares - its better that way imo. It'll sell well to the masses, and it'll have tons of tuner mod-ability. I don't see what there is to complain about.

Formula for designing a Hyundai luxury car...

Take One Mercedes Benz S-Class front end

+ One Infiniti I30 rear end

= One non-original RWD sedan. I guess originality is not a strong-suit at Hyundai...

Unlike clean-sheet Lexus and Infiniti, Hyundai has an already established brand in North America and people will associate Hyundai with Excels and Elantras for many years before they think RWD luxury sedan. Resale value alone should suffer from this.

Also, the Hyundai sales and service employees won't suddenly transform into a knowledgeable luxury-car-minded staff. My guess is that this entire transformation will take a while and that alone would keep me away from this vehicle (among many other factors).

For the love of god, Type 34, please stop.

This thread has been beaten to death with stuff like post #902.

If you have nothing constructive to add, then don't post until you do.

Lexus' LS400 was in every way a homogenization of Germanic styling at the time. Lexus was derided for it and the American public didn't give two shits about it because it was as good as a Mercedes S-Class for 2/3 the price.

Infiniti tried to be unique and the Q45 didn't sell anywhere near as well as the LS400. Now Infiniti doesn't even make a Q45 and the LS460 is widely regarded as the best model in its class.

I'm so sick of banality and idiocy.

You're joking, right? What you call trite, I call my opinion. I went back several pages and saw mostly gushing for the new Genesis...my opinion is that it's a flat-out copy and has an uphill battle as long as it's italicized "H" is on the hood.

I'm talking brand, not product. The Q45 didn't make it because it was an inferior product to its competition. Yet the Infiniti brand lives on. Toyota and Nissan launched Lexus and Infiniti because they knew buyers cared as much (or moreso) about brand as product. Toyota launched Scion for the same reason. Acura killed the Integra and Legend names because they had more brand equity than "Acura". M-B, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, etc. don't all use alphanumeric references for their products by coincidence; brand power is essential.

Now let's talk Hyundai's brand power in North America...

In the 80s and early 90s, Hyundai set J.D. Powers & Associates records for most defects in initial quality, thanks mostly to the inexpensive yet cheaply built Excel. Times have changed as Hyundai in 2008 is above the industry average (above Acura) in initial quality. However, many people still view Hyundai as a lower-level brand. As the "car guy" among my friends and family, if I mention "Hyundai" as a recommendation (which is rare), they usually question my recommendation or just look at me strangely. Hyundai still has an uphill climb for respectibility at least here in the U.S...which will affect resale value (prime element for luxury vehicles).

Their product portfolio doesn't help either. VW couldn't do it with the Phaeton (or Passat W8), Acura killed the RSX to sell more RLs, and Mazda couldn't move the Millenia - bottom line: buyers don't buy luxury cars from non-luxury brands. If Hyundai can sell a $42K Genesis sedan that sits next to a $11K Accent, then more power to them...but history tells us that it won't happen.

So I'd like to put a stop to the idiocy of paralleling Toyota's release of Lexus in 1989 to Hyundai's release of the Genesis sedan in 2008 - two very different approaches (especially from a marketing standpoint) that in my opinion will have very different outcomes.

Not here to ruffle feathers or promote insults, just offering another side to the Genesis story.

Since "type34" has revived this thread with no good reason...

I am going to post a review in CarTalk and/or Auto news about my test drive in a Genesis. A sneak peak - having driven the Genesis, I would easily consider one OVER a LS460L (driven the latter extensively). No bull. The Genesis would have to rank as one of the BEST sedans I have ever had the pleasure of driving. Detailed review to come...

Oh, and I'll be buying one soon (this month or next hopefully). Yes, its that good.Think LS400 intro circa 1989.

In regards to all the "Genesis vs. Acura TL", or "Genesis vs. Acura RL" threads in this forum (and other forums), it was suggested taking the conversation to the "Automotive News" section. It seems nobody else from those threads followed me in yet...and apparently this thread isn't open to hearing negativity regarding the Genesis or the Hyundai brand, which again, is my biggest concern regarding this vehicle.

It's not that this thread isn't open to hearing negativity, it's just that you're a few months late. We discussed the styling way way back when this thing first came out...in detail to the point where it was nauseating. It's become a sore topic so to speak.

Fair enough...yeah, it seems like I opened a few sore wounds. Didn't mean to stir anything up.

I'm a car nut and soak up all sorts of automotive media and have checked out the Hyundai forums...these guys think the Genesis is the second coming and that immediately their Tiburons are going to skyrocket in value as Hyundai will become Lexus. I just feel people need a dose of reality.

And a guy like Vishnus, more power to ya bud if you're going to choose a Hyundai over a Lexus...it's your money...and you'll be saving a lot of it if you can truly afford a $75K+ LS460L.
