I think we all know this to be true....but the bigger point is they did a rush job.......AND MADE IT LOOK WORSE!!!

Honda is seriously one wave short of a shipwreck.

Ya, Sentra was the first thing that came to mind when seeing this.

But I think you guys may be overreacting just a tad. Its a Civic. As long as its fuel efficient and practical it will sell in huge numbers. I don't see anything they've done to the styling that will keep people away in droves. Yes its somewhat boring but its not polarizing by any stretch.

Sure it will sell...this is why Honda has been resting on it's laurels.

Slap a Civic badge on a pile of ...and it will sell.

It's real short term thinking on Honda's part. It will, and is catching up with them. Car shoppers are finding better looking cars, with higher levels of tech, higher levels of quality....for even a on par or cheaper price.

Resting on your name will only get you so far when the competition is clearly better.

But that's an entirely different argument altogether (outside of the better looking part) we don't know anything about its tech or quality. Although we can make some assumptions based on what they've recently released. The interior looks low rent in the few pics we saw, but again, too early to tell.

The styling is IMO not bad enough to hurt sales. It still looks better than a Corolla and Sentra.

Kinda like my thoughts with BMW...regardless of how horrid I think some of their designs are.

But, this iteration of the Civic is okay...not my favorite but it's not horrid. And agree with LeafsWinningDaCup2011, it is better looking than the Sentra and Corolla.

True.

It's just disappointing because, once again, Honda doesn't seem to be living up to its old self. It's a sad day when a previous leader seems to think it's "good enough" to be in the middle of the pack. I'm sure they don't see it this way, but with these designs, that's what they're basically telling us. But again, we take it more "personal" here than the general public.

Let's put it this way...judging by all the tech stuff that Honda does not put in either the Accord or Oddy...etc....why would the Civic be any different?

You think a magical dual clutch gear box (Ford Fiesta) is going to appear?
You think a Honda version of "Sync" is gonna show up in the Civic?
You think it will have a keyless start?
You think a direct injection motor is going to show up?

My $$$ is on that it will be the same old Civic.

You think this might only be the middle east / Euro version? Yeah the NA version might have some extra light cluster bits on the trunk.

I don't think all those tech features is what helps the Civic sell. It helps some cars (the Mazda3), but others cars ar selling just as well or even better by doing the basic transportation thing well (Corolla).

I don't think the Civic (or any Hondas) are bad cars, they're just behind the times. Different things.

No one ever said the Civic is a bad car......the exact opposite....that's why Honda apparently has done virtually nothing to it.

The point being is that everyone is jumping ahead of Honda and setting the bar higher. It used to be that the Civic set the bar, now Ford, Hyundai, Chevrolet set the bar.

In what aspect?

No matter how much tech Honda does or doesn't put into this car, I have no doubt it will sell like hotcakes and be more profitable than most, if not all other cars in the class. And at the end of the day, that's all that really matters

90% of people that buy a Civic buy it because they or their grandmother or aunt or cousin has had a good experience with a Honda, and because it's cheap.

Most of us here are not accuntant bean counters. We could care less if the Civic is profitable.

You can box up and sell it for huge $$$.....I don't care, I don't want a box of

Most other automakers are building better looking vehicles with more features in the Civic class. It's a sad day to see Honda falling behind.......but at least Honda is making $$$$.

I wouldnt consider the Civic cheap when you factor in content. Other vehicles on the market give more bang for the buck. Honda has been banking on brand recognition for years now. Their designs are not sleek in any way yet they still turn a profit because people are loyal to them. But once they lose the loyalty (its beginning to happen) what are they going to do with a showroom full of bad designs and overpriced vehicles?

They are cheap in content compared to the others as of late, The designs are horrible. Honda is going to be in Heaps of shit the day the loyal customers start looking at the other offerings out there and see what and how much they have improved. Especially the designs, Honda is so far behind in good looking cars where it used to be one of the leaders.

I think I mispoke. Rereading the first sentence of my post makes it seem as though I meant it is full of features, when in my mind I meant the exact opposite.

Was that car designed by a 7 year old? I still can't believe they would let such a ugly car go into production. How are the people who designed this still employed? I was a huge Honda fan, but I'm seriously done with them. They pushed me over the top this time.

The Civic is losing its sporty intentions more and more with each successive generation. Yes this current SI is fun to drive, but an SI use to be raw. A torqueless B16 screaming to 8k... eh whatever we just buy Hondas because they are reliable, safe and have decent residuals.

I use to buy them because they were fun, sporty, looked decent, could make them fast, in addition to the reliable and safe aspect.

I thought the Civic improved its sporty intentions when it went from the 7g to 8g. I mean, the Si went from the weak K20 (160hp) to a 200hp one. Also, the 8g si doesn't look like a minivan (7g si). Most importantly, the Type R version of the 8G civic is much faster than any previous FWD Type R's, DC5-R included.

I also believe that back in the days, people were complaining how torqueless the B series was. Honda listened and came out with the K series that makes much more usable torque while keeping the 8000+rpm redline.

IMO, the 8g civic is better looking that the boring 7g civic.

Yes, its leagues better then the 7g, but it doesnt give me the same feelings that a 4th or 5th gen does when you drive it. Something about the 8g seems disconnected, for lack of a better word.

There is nothing raw about these cars anymore. Watered down for the masses another Corolla. Before Honda was at least seen as a sporty alternative.

The greenhouse/roofline is an improvement (never a fan of the current "jellybean" shape); however, the front and rear fascias need some work (just too bland).

I said before Honda has un matched R&D skills. It will be interesting to see next Type R.

The difference between Red color Type R and White Champion color Type R.

Same engine, same weight, same tires, same techology but different result.

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/carg...ic_type_r.html

The Championship White costs an additional £1140 and, apart from the all-white colour scheme, the only real difference is the diff. It sounds like a lot of money for not a lot extra, but one corner of the West Circuit is all you need to be convinced it’s a bargain. The diff changes the feel and behaviour of the car so comprehensively you’d think there were other upgrades, but there aren’t – everything else is the same, even the tyres. Yet the White is more effective on the brakes, there are a whole load more messages coming from the nose, and it claws its way out of the turns with no fuss or frustrating wheelspin. When we strap the timing gear on, it knocks more than 3sec off the lap time set by the regular version – a staggering improvement that I wouldn’t have believed possible if I hadn’t done the driving myself. The game is upped on the road too. The CTR is all front end, but with the CW the rear can be brought into play and its reactions are sharper, allowing the driver to play with the interface between tyre and tarmac

Honda exterior design still the best in market for the amount of money. Just go over design in each segment.
TL vs ES/IS/GS.
TSX is far better looking so it cannot be even compared to those blend and out of proportion Lexus.

Acura need to start performance divsion like AMG/M/RS. where overpriced performance version of Civic/Accord Coupe/TSX/TL could be sold.

Autocar is not stupid magazine when they were comparing Champion addition of Civic Type R with 1.2g pulling Audi R8.
