The sport package non-M E39's did not have a hidden exhaust.
The bangle 7 series is so fugly that the hidden exhaust is the least of the issues with that car.
yeah, you're right, I forgot about that...I think that came along after the mid cycle face lift. my brother owned a 6-spd 540 sport that had hidden exhaust.
I'm sorry, but any hidden exhaust is done wrong. It makes the back just look bland. I understand why the 7 series has it- it's a pure luxo-barge and being sporty is it's last thought.
However, Acura, who's trying to sell people on the "it's that kind of thrill" is doing it's best to hide any thrill on the back of the car. Just by looking at the back of a 3G TL Type S gives a sense of "thrill". I'm guessing it was more of a cost cutting measure more than anything else. Nice exhaust tips vs none what so ever must have saved Acura $0.67 on every car produced.
Keep it up guys! I can't wait to get "that kind of thrill" when I move on to another brand after my 3G.
Quad tips on the Type S looked good.
Quads on 4G TL looked good.
Dual exhaust on Second Gen. TSX looked good.
No tips on the TLX looks bad.
Wtf is wrong with them?

All of the 7 series models after the bangle debacle have visible exhaust. They sell their cars as "the ultimate driving machine" regardless of price point or purpose. They make a twin turbo V8 SUV that's not designed to go off road at all whatsoever. The fact that it says "do not use launch control while towing" () in the manual is a testament to the fact that they do still cater to the enthusiast regardless of sales volume. And that is why they do as well as they do.

I'm not sure about the "regardless of print point or purpose" part. The X5/6 50i or even the M models are no doubt catered for the enthusiasts. But some of the cheaper offerings, I'm not sure if they are catered for enthusiasts anymore. The most notable one is the F30 3 series and many have claimed that the steering has been dumbed down a lot. In many comparison tests, you'd hear journalists saying how the IS and ATS are better drivers' cars than the 3 series.
It's not that BMW can't tune a steering, the M235i and 4 series are IMO examples of true BMW's that are worthy of "the ultimate driving machine" slogan. But it just seems like BMW deliberately (and understandably) makes the 3 series more family oriented.

Yup, I agree. But they still to this day make the versions of the car that are enthusiast oriented and come with three pedals.

Those were 2012/2013 3 series
All 2014+ 2/3/4 series all have the same steering feel, much improved and weighted even in Normal mode. I think it is a little too heavy with Sport+.
and the fact that BMW offered software update for my 2013 to tune the steering to the same as 2014+ is part of what make it "the ultimate driving machine"

They did an optional recall on the early E46 cars that had an overboosted rack and allowed owners to get the new, heavier rack installed for free if they wanted. And that wasn't just a software update!
if anything i think the newer BMWs are a lot more reliable than what i have seen with the E46....
with the vanos, subframe rust and fuel pump issues in the E9x...
the biggest complains on the F3X so far is the wind noise at 70+mph.
VANOS was an issue with the E46 M only, the ZHP developed a rattle over time but it never caused any real issues.
Subframe was resolved with the facelift and there was an extensive recall to address any lingering issues.
Fuel pump in E9X 335i's was the only one that really left you stranded.
The F series cars haven't been on the road long enough to develop these issues yet but my biggest gripe with modern BMWs is the cost to service and maintain these cars as they get older. This isn't even going into fixing something that actually breaks and that's where the Hondas used to shine. That's not the point of this thread though so I'll stop there.

Adrian Newey has been informed of your displeasure of hidden exhaust and vows to make all his future F1 creations with exposed exhaust pipes.
His 1998 MP4/13 which won Mika the WDC and McLaren/MB the WCC
There's nothing wrong with having a discussion about it. If you don't want to be a part of the discussion, feel free to close out of the thread. You are mucking it up with your banter.

Now I don't trust it though. Think of what will happen when the transmission park pin fails, the car rolls downhill, and the airbag blows up and shoots shards of metal into my body.
