If I absolutely HAVE to choose one, I would choose SSFTSX over skd2k1.

Less than stellar remarks for the TLX in MotorTrends COTY comparison.
2015 Motor Trend Car of the Year Contenders, Finalists - Motor Trend Page 9
Also sad that the Kia Sedona made it to the finalists but the TLX didnt

That may mean that the finalists are named on merits but why wouldn't they make sure all the finalists would do the marketing MT requires?
Frankly, I think the MT award is a load of horseshit. Here's an example: "While the Mustang did not display the performance chops to merit Car of the Year, most editors said this Mustang was the most livable yet."
R&T and C&D both loved the Mustang and said it was a much more usable car than the 1LE (which was great on a track but impractical day-to-day).
They picked a fucking VW Golf as their COTY and the Mustang was judged lacking in performance?
And I think I just defended an Acura in this thread

But the fact that many people thought TLX could even had a chance to win COTY was laughable.
Maybe VBTY( Value Buy of The Year ).. even that might go to Accord if such award existed.

I'm pretty sure MT won't name a COTY if the manufacturer doesn't agree to certain marketing requirements after winning the award.

Here are comments from the COTY Review:
"the sporty sedan's handling is a letdown"
"neither is as fun to drive as either of the cars the TLX replaces."
"The front-end theme is a minor variation and basically continues a remarkably unsuccessful string of attempts."
"Judges found a bit too much Honda DNA in the car and not enough uniquely Acura design and engineering. The words "glammed-up Honda" were uttered"
"both quickly give up to heavy understeer mid-corner"
Here are the comments from previous MT's TLX Reviews:
"It’s clear from behind the wheel that engineers tried to make the TLX a sporty sedan."
"the TLX feels very taut, and body movement is well-controlled. The direct steering also contributes to the TLX’s nimble, eager feel, and the car general feels pretty neutral in the corners."
"Dynamically, the TLX is more entertaining to drive with its fairly neutral tendencies as opposed to the steady push the TSX was keen to deliver."
"the TLX feels like a good compromise between the TL and TSX and is vastly improved over both of those cars in terms of driving dynamics, interior aesthetics and quality, and available technology."
"The new TLX, in total, is a solid midsize luxury sedan. It's a strong improvement on the TSX and gives up very little to the TL. What's more, it's more competitive in its class than ever before."
I feel the need...
Breaking News Flash: THIS...JUST...IN.... Unless you have a LaFerrari or McLaren F1 in your garage, congratulations! You own a depreciating appliance.

no, I feel good about not having a car payment on a reliable car. it sucks that my car is depreciating, but at least it's not a range rover.
2024 Honda Civic Type R
Saw a white TLX in the wild yesterday.
The "hidden" exhaust is not even hidden... you can clearly see the mufflers and tiny downward-bent tips below the bumper.
It looks so stupid.

Where did they go wrong?
You had the right idea, Acura-san.
But poor implementation.
Dare I say the previous generations did it better? Even the 4G???
Has anyone seen a TLX with an aftermarket exhaust yet? I wonder how they work the tips.
RIP aftermarket sporty look?

The 4G TL is an abomination. The TLX is too bland but it's 1,000 times better than the TL.

Everyone has to pay for the appliance one way or the other.
You can choose to always drive a new car with no maintenance or repair worries but always have a car payment
OR
you can choose to drive an old car and deal with the depreciation and other associated cost with owning an old car.
pick you poison, they are all pretty much the same at the end.
but at least my appliance is always going to be new.

^I don't have a car payment and I maintain my low-maintainence appliance myself. so it's not really the same. at this point my biggest expense is a set of tires every few years.

Let me clarify something for you. Assuming you will own the car for 10 years
First 3-5 years of financing your car: Other than car payment, you don't have to worry much other than regular scheduled maintenance.
after that, yes you have no tangible car payments but your car is depreciating 2-3k every year + wear and tear items + repair cost = your intangible car payment. It is a curve.. you have higher depreciation cost at the beginning with lower cost in others. As your car gets older and older, the curve will shift to the other side.
at the end they are all the same... depreciating assets. the only difference is you want to pay with the tangible car payment and driving a new car OR you want to deal with the intangible car payment and hassle and sadness driving an old car.

I see lots of ranges on the road...
In part I agree with what you're saying. not a huge difference between financing and leasing.
In my specific case, I didn't finance my car. I bought it slightly used, still under warranty and paid cash. it's been a very cheap car to own, especially compared to the bmw's I'd owned previously. at this point, I have no payments and since it's been out of warranty I haven't had any issues (knock on wood). that said, I'm meticulous with maintainence and have invested a lot of elbow grease.
the money that I could have spent on car payments is going toward appreciating investments. one of these days I'll buy myself a track tool.

It's not the same in the end if you get something you like that is also reliable and durable. Then the overall costs will be lower if you own the vehicle for ~8-10 years. You'll pay more for that new car smell and new features every 3-5 years in the long term.
First of all, Other than the 1%, only idiots BUY Range Rovers.

Actually you won't see the hidden exhausts...because there's a plastic piece underneath:
