Maybe, but it's not happening yet. I told our sales rep (the same one who sold us our RDX 2 years ago) that I wasn't going to play "let's make a deal" for this car (S-AWD Tech). I said, "Give me your best price, and if we like it we may decide not to shop around." The sticker was $44,900. The first number he gave me was $39,000- under 42K out the door.
It's good to see that deals are still out there though. Hopefully this supply shortage isn't as bad as they're making it out to be.

I like the current TLX a lot but....who in his right mind is going to pay second sticker on a Type S?? Unless the car is going to be a spectacular outlier in term of capabilities, I suspect it will perform exactly as its 350 HP engine will allow it to perform....just like any other good or even excellent sub 400 horses sport sedans out there and there are a LOT of choices. The real outlier is the M340i which is seriously fast for its advertised power.
As good as the new TLX is and how commendable the effort from Acura is to differentiate it from the Accord (different front suspension, serious power difference between the top trims of both cars, longer wheelbase, etc...) especially after the disastrous first generation TLX, sorry but it ain't second sticker material in my book....the "Type S" badge is not the "M" badge....

Type-S, Type-R, ///M, AMG, RS, V Blackwing, TRD, Shelby, Hellcat ... I don't give a goddamn what f-ing badge/nomenclature you put on a car, I refuse to pay anything above sticker. Am I a cheap SOB? Yea, probably. But I still won't even remotely consider for a fraction of a nano-second a car if it's listed even a penny over sticker. If I do pay sticker, you better throw in some goddamn floor mats or something, lol.

Exactly. CarGurus is just like TrueCar. They're showing you the prices that people are paying on average. Sticker price ain't going nowhere. It'll actually go up a few hundred dollars next year as it normally does.

Prices for local inventory will always be better versus MSRP. The Type-S is the one to watch since it's being produced now so prices are more in flux.

Do you have a link to spec sheet you're referring to?
The one I found here is the release notes, and it doesn't mention the HUD.

My guess is they will limit Type-S availability and that will prop up demand, but once the Acura “enthusiast” crowd is done sales will go rather flat as some people will not accept the lower trim optioned Type-S for the high price expected.

Yes, it will be interesting to see where things stand a year from now. I'm loving my 2021 TLX Tech, but miss the awesome torque and raw power of my 2001 CL-S. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo can move, but you have to manipulate the transmission to make it happen. If you're in "normal" drive mode and want to make a really quick move, you have to switch to sport or sport+ to get it done. Just flooring it won't make it happen. My good old CL-S is not very sophisticated anymore, but when you need raw power instantly, it's there. If the type-s has some better color and other options in the future and the price is right, I may be tempted to move up.
The CL-S/TL-S were good cars, but with a shitty tranny. In fact, the TL-S had the highest output hp within the mid-side sport sedan class.
I know, because I owned a 2002 TL-S, and got rid of it in no time when the replaced tranny was starting to show telltale signs of yet another imminent failure.

A big drawback on the 2001 CL-S was the nightmarish 5-speed automatic transmission, which would self destruct after accumulated enough mileage due to faulty design. If the tranny failed on the highways, the tranny would shift from 5th to 2nd without warning, and the tires would lock up and the car spin out of control. Replacement trannies would fail the same way even though less frequently than the original unit. Worse still was that not even Honda knew which tranny units would fail and which wouldn't.

I owned a 2000 TL. When all was said and done the transmission had been replaced 4 times at no cost. Loved that car though. Traded it in with 118,000 miles on the speedo. The guy who bought it from the dealer liked the car so much that, after I gave the dealer permission to have him call me about some required service, he thanked me for maintaining what he said was the best used car he had ever purchased. Other than the transmission that was a great vehicle.

What’s the consensus and guesses on when the online builder will be available so we can play around building our type s? If I remember correctly the online builder for the standard edition came available exactly on launch day back in September. Hopefully they launch the type s builder by the end of the month so we can play around and see the different options and accessories.

Yup, I remember your user name from back from the pre-Acurazine days, when this forum was acura tl . com. In November, I'll have been on this forum for 20 years! I came here around the time I bought my 2002 TL-P, and before I could develop any tranny trouble, I traded out for an early 2004 TL. Those were the days...
Yup, time flies. It's about time to replace my oil-burning 4G TL. Only this time I'm in no hurry, and I can patiently wait for the TL-S to reach land.

Yep. Mine failed after the car was out of warranty, but Honda replaced it for free anyway. I never had any problems with the replacement tranny. In fact, although she's showing her age cosmetically, she still runs like when she was new.

As for myself, with the multiple factory extended warranties on the tranny all expired, it would have cost me Cdn $5k+ to replace a crapped-out tranny. The value of my TL-S then was only around $8-9k. That was why I had to dump the car ASAP, because no way in hell was I gonna fork out $5k+ to fix my crippled car which worth only a couple thousands $ more.

Yep. Shots of one that was on a truck(maybe for display purposes) showed a front camera.
We won't anything for sure until one comes out and it's actually seen. Honda/Acura is so tight lipped about everything when it comes to their cars coming out, it's hard to say what is actually true.

they only confirmed to have added a couple things. Power folding mirrors, rain sensing wipers were the standouts. Still no hud or camera confirmed.

I had a similar experience with my late 2003 TL. After tranny replacement at ~74k ish, car ran amazingly all the way to 199k before getting totaled. I miss the way that car shifted in sport shift.

Still driving mine as well, and I believe that the 07-08 TL Type S had all the base optional car features included by default. Maybe not the goofy small stuff like floor mats and trunk organizer, but everything else! I know there are many more advanced features complicating accomplishing this in 2021, but it's still a bit disappointing considering the price point.

The Type S was not "everything" even back then...it was simply a nice looking, very good front driver sporty sedan and good value but its performance were already matched years before by an even cheaper non premium brand 5.5 gen Nissan maxima. Also for less money, the Mazdaspeed6 was a worthy challenger.
