Type-S is almost here.

The Type S was not "everything" even back then...it was simply a nice looking, very good front driver sporty sedan and good value but its performance were already matched years before by an even cheaper non premium brand 5.5 gen Nissan maxima. Also for less money, the Mazdaspeed6 was a worthy challenger.

Unless my memory is playing tricks on me, the 2G was not a big seller, the 3G definitely was...sure it was a sales success but not that unique and special in my book, a very good car for sure....it seems a bit overrated on this forum.

It's not just this forum. I'm new to the "Honda crowd" and it seems a lot of enthusiasts of the brand really do live in a bubble. It's no wonder they're mocked almost universally by every other circle of car enthusiasts. Just calling it like I see's it ...

I drove only on one occasion a Mazdaspeed6 so many years ago, I mentioned it in one of my message today and I re-jogged my memory reading quickly some old reviews.....what a terrific value it was, 30K and change fully loaded, a modern, high torque at low rev direct injected turbo, very nice looking, Limited Slip Diff, AWD, Dual Wishbone front suspension, very good fit and finish and tight assembly (all MS6 were put together in Japan). Universally praised for its handling, good steering, probably quicker off the line compared to a Type S (I could not find C&D figures, Motorweek managed 5.8 to sixty)......for quite few thousands less....

Let's not also forget the Subaru Legacy GT of that time, a terrific sport sedan, the best built and best looking Legacy ever made.

It’s ridiculous the car comes out next month and not one test drive even if camo wrapped. Acura is acting like this car is some rare exotic. It’s nearly launch time and there’s nothing!?!?

so many people in this forum have good ole day syndrome. they still think their 15 to 20 year old Acuras are still the best cars ever. I have a 94 Legend Couple 6 speed and I enjoy driving it but I know its not special and dont think its still better than anything Acura produces now. Not only that, you have people who have moved on from Acura and still lurk here to tell everyone how much better their new vehicles are than Acuras. It is very strange mix of "enthusiasts".

Respectful, it's your opinion. There are plenty of people that prefer the older stuff vs the newer stuff. Why Acura's of 15-20 years ago are better, because honestly, they were. Acura figured out just the right blend of luxury, style, performance with value and reliability. Entire line up from the Legend Coupe with the 6MT, to the integra type-r, to the 3rd gen TL ect. These were vehicles were prime for the time. Competitive and fun to drive. These were vehicles that did exactly what you expected and nothing more. No piped in exhaust bullshit, no turbos, no launch control. Simple, Simple, Simple with a manual transmission. If there wasn't a sought after market for these vehicles, then bring a trailer or cars n bids won't exist. Some of these vehicles are worth / sell for more than most current Acura's. Facts don't lie, the 3rd gen TL was by far Acura's best seller and it is til this day one of the most sought after sedans.

....according to whom exactly??
I can imagine quite a lot of sedans of that era that today I would pick over a 3G.....
Most of 3G I see on the road nowadays are the El Cheapo tuned variety...

There are 633 viewers right now in the 3rd gen TL section. There's a whole 23 here in this section.
There are 34,000 members in one 3rd gen TL FB group.
The TL-S 6MT with low miles can and has sold for over 20K which means there's a demand for such a vehicle
This video sums it up as why the 3rd gen is still desirable.

The internet, the forums. FB could not mean anything.....it could be simply group of people belonging to the above mentioned Acura echo chamber talking to each other....resale values are a different story.
Real sought after sport sedans/4 doors of that time with unusually high asking prices.
Pontiac G8
Subaru Legacy GT 6MT
BMW 330i (last NA BMW straight 6)
Cadillac CTS-V Wagon 6MT (these rare birds sell in some cases at above original MSRP)
BMW M3 (E46, E90) unmolested and with good service records
The 3G I see on the road, on average, tend to be not particularly well kept or cheaply tuned contraptions...this does not indicate, in my opinion, a particularly highly sought car...a solid used car with good performance, yes, "one of the most sought sedans" hardly so.

I could say the same with the list of vehicles you mentioned being clapped out and not well taken care of. Doesn't mean what I stated is false. At this point, we can agree to disagree.

Does it command more $$$ compared to the front drive garbage Detroit was cranking out back then?? Yes, for sure, by a mile.....especially a Type S will sell for more money than some of the good sporty V6 Japanese front drivers of similar vintage (Altima, Maxima, etc...)
From there to being "one of the most sought after sedans" it's a long road.
Like any FWD, the 3G also has limited performance enhancing potential before front wheel spinning galore sets in for these wanting to buy a used sporty car as a performance update project.

We are waiting for almost 2 years now. So, another 2-4 weeks won't change. As I mentioned in one of my posts, the TLX TYPE S is delayed due to the pandemic.

Exactly Jon is very a reliable guy and he provides accurate info. The fact that Acura will held a media gathering and let them test the vehicle before its release tells me that they are confident about the performance and adequate power of the TYPE S.

If we go off of previous Acura new products on sale date it should be released on a Monday. So if they say it’s late May I’m thinking it’s probably going to be either May 17th or May 24th which if it is on the 24th then it will be exactly one year since we saw the Type-S reveal. Exciting times ahead. That Tiger Eye Pearl is likely the color I will be getting when they come out with the ILX replacement Type-S.

I feel this. Had my 1G RDX in for dealer service last weekend, and they gave me a 3G loaner.. I honestly couldn't wait to give it back it. Felt so bloated and complicated with all the tech. Makes me want to keep fixing my 1G RDX forever and never upgrade.

Reviews/impressions should hopefully start coming in mid May. That is, unless Acura again splits media in two (audio vs driving) and has embargo until end of May / early June.

I would say about 2 weeks from now they will invite Journalists over to review the Type-S. it will be probably be separate as it would be the East Coast first then West Coast. Just hold on we are closer then ever.

....and interestingly enough, a lot of them despise the 4G which in 6MT SH-AWD trim was a serious raising of the bar in terms of value, a much better car all the way.

Looking at 2021 models of BMW M340i, Audi S4 Quattro, and Mercedes C Class to be on par with the Type S, they're all priced at least like $54k. Once the Type S comes out to where it can be built on the Acura site, I'll do another comparison. From what I've seen, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi all have to have packages added in order to have the features that Acura has standard. Safety systems, wheels, sunroof, navigation, and other features. And they normally jack the price up $3k+. So in my book, the Type S will still be at the top value wise. Everyone keep thinking about the performance. I'm thinking about the total package. The Mercedes and BMW might have more power but what about the comfort? What about the infotainment? What about wheel choices? What about accessories? Ford might off 4-6k off their Fusion but by the time I add the packages that I want that'll match up to the Accord of the same trim, the cost is right back up to where it was before. Building an Aspec on the Acura site with features that matter to me, I'm at $47k. None of the other cars even offer remote start. So to me, they're all cancelled out. To even get the Audi to have the same features as the Aspec, pricing starts at $49k. Mercedes C class is at $50k. And BMW STARTS at $44k.
Value folks. Value is the name of the game. Acura always tends to keep that. I bet the Type S is going to have plenty of value built into it.

I am in the same boat, I placed a deposit down on the Type S. Prior to that I had a deposit down on C43, I canceled that when some life changes happened and moved over to the TLX. But if the value is not there for the Type S, and I mean, real value....I am going back to the C43, just a CPO...and get what I really want.

That's what I've been telling everyone. Knowing Acura, I'm very sure it'll be well worth it to me. I loved the Lexus IS350. Numbers on paper looked amazing. Nice features too. Then I got in it. No space. The 306hp it said it had was very lackluster. Infotainment was dated. Switch to Honda Accord Sport 2.0 and loved it. Felt the power and felt a lot quicker than the IS350. Interior is spacious and infotainment looks fresh and up to date. Car looks amazing from all angles.
Looking at the current TLX, I can only see it getting better with the Type S treatment. Still will have more features for the money than its competition. A lot of people here are just focused on it's performance. I'm focused on the car as a whole. Features that will come standard on the Type S will require "packages" or extra money on the German competition. Always been like that. You can even do that with the current TLX/3 series/C-Class/A5 models. The TLX still comes out less money for more features. Performance can be had with a tune, suspension, and better tires(and from what's been done, wheels as well). Something I planned to do anyway. If I was buying a sedan solely on performance, I'd looking at 2018 F80 M3. Not an Acura TLX.
