They may not have been so bold if there weren't actual people who have historically fed the machine!

OFF Topic but more FUN than a $75,000 Civic

Good news - Have been invited by BMW to run in their AutoX.

More Good news - Pro driver instruction period.

Bad News - Can't use the COBRA - they supply the cars.

That is true. But I don't think there's anyone actually paying $75k for one. I understand mark up but that's extremely stupid. The people looking for those cars probably make that or less a year. So that takes it out of their budget. The people looking to spend 475k aren't looking at a Civic Type R.

Luckily, that shit is illegal in CO. There are 2 of those in our state right now for $44,990.

Does CO have a cap on ADM? If not, what about it makes it illegal?

Some memorandum that came out from the Colorado Department of Revenue stating that they have to actual cost of the car on the sticker and that cost cannot exceed the MSRP plus dealer fee and the dealer fee cannot exceed the cost of delivery.

I waited for the type S. Ended up losing my patience and went for a CPO S5 Coupe fully optioned for 45k with 27k miles (new sticker 69k). With extended warranty, remainder of factory and CPO warranty it's covered for 5 years. I had the 3rd gen type S and a ton of other performance cars over the years. The S5 is amazing in every aspect and I have owned a ton of acura's.. Value wise I feel it was a great tradeoff vs +/- 54k for a type S much lower optioned and most likely lower performance, poorer braking and handling. A CPO is a real comparison to the Type S. Both are fairly expensive but best to drive things around that 50k range to do a good evaluation. I say that assuming that anyone looking for a Type S is more performance oriented.

Dealers rub hands over potential TLX-S bidding war. IMHO its insane. Why pay more for a TLX-S than a high performance sports sedan? You can buy an M3/M4 for what some dealers are trying to sell a Honda Civic at. This proves PT Barnum is still right in the saying that is alleged to him.

For TLX Type S, Acura says it will be the fastest Type S ever. Does that include NSX Type S which was around 4.5 sec 0-60?

I would not be surprised if it hits 60 in just under 4.5 seconds. 355hp does seem quite low on paper but with modern drivetrain tech and tires it is not unreasonable to achieve that kind of performance. Every horsepower has become higher in performance/hp over the years due to gains in other areas of the car/motor...

Also wonder if it will have similar gains in aftermarket tunes like the Hondata guys were able to do with the 2.0T motor.....

Its a turbo motor so I'd imagine so. Ditto for simple bolt ons like intake/dp/exhaust etc.

I believe Acura claimed "Most powerful Acura SEDAN ever"

Yes, it theory it will see gains. However, the specific details of the engine and ECU is still unknown. I wouldn't be the 1st to tune the TLX-S unless it's been tested and the engine is still within it's safe limits. Not just the engine, but the biggest concern is the drive terrain with the additional TQ.

Agree,

However, it's hard to say for sure when and if someone will produce any aftermarket support for the TLX-S.

this claim keeps changing, for that to be true it would have had to be more then the rlx sport hybrids 377hp, now they’re saying...

which isn’t saying much, wow more then the 4 other type S’ that have existed all over 10 years ago. Poor marketing aside i am pumped for its release.

The All-New Acura TLX Type-S. The Most POWERFUL Type-S Sedan with 20" Wheels Exceeding 196" Length with Transverse Mounted Non-Hybrid Turbo Engine Acura ... ever. PERIOD.

My lady balls are tingling just thinking about how amazing this car is going to be. /s

[EDIT]

And this is precisely why I shit on the car and the brand:

A 355HP, 4,100lb+ brick is going to have a tough time passing Accord 2.0Ts and Camry V6s. Literally the most 'detached from reality' group of enthusiasts, these Honduh fanboys.

so from you're point of view. no one should ever pay more for a car if it isnt fastest car in its class?

Well, for sure not over MSRP if it's not best in class in some form of category. The 60k CAD price is one thing, 60k plus premium because Acura is not making enough of them even though it contains ~75% pieces from the RDX ... no.

Mayyyyyybe.

Although, with their weight advantage, I think they'll stick around closer than what a lot of people flaunting the Type-S actually think. Mainly because the people hyping the Type-S act like the 3.0T V6 is going to "shake up the industry" ... which it wont.

Comical to say the least. I've seen many similar posts on various facebook posts and youtube videos. The funniest part of their comments, is that they still believe its a twin turbo V6. So much for being Acura fans when you can't even get your facts correct.

I hope it's not at Hendrick Honda, the dealer that drills holes in all their new cars for a front plate bracket for their advertisement even though both North and South Carolina don't require a front plate.

Fair concern, but Hondata is usually pretty quick about updating their Flashpro dongle. They had a Flashpro for the 2019 RDX at the end of January '19. This in spite of the fact that the bulk of their Flashpro sales and research goes into Civic tuning.

With just a tune alone, Hondata is claiming +25 HP on a 2.0T RDX and +45 HP on a 2.0T accord. I'm very interested to see what kind of gains they can get on the V6T.

I don't know about yall but I have full intentions on buying a pre-owned one. Lol. I'm sure within a year or two, someone will trade it in. Working for Hendrick, I have access to all the Hendrick dealers across the nation. So I'll keep a look out on one. I'll head out to Acura to test drive one when they come out.

Shake up the industry? Hello no it wont. TT V6's have been around are becoming more and more common. Shake up Honda enthusiasts yes since they have never really had one.

The 2007 type S at 286hp was 5.8 0-60 (with old tech and drivetrain). The 2018 V6 was 6.0 seconds on a good day. Would be extremely surprised if at 355hp it gets down to a 4.5 second time. The 10 spd trans in the last gen of V-6 tlx was just not great and negated the hp (although maybe it was overated at 298 or whatever it was), also made for the slowest feeling +/-300hp I have driven. As for aftermarket tuning you shouldn't need to do that. It should be fast out of the factory and also tuning it will most likely void the warranty.

You conveniently overlooked that J30A has much more torque below 3k than J35. The torque number and the estimated weight (41xx) all point to high 4 second 0-60. The bottleneck is not the engine, but the transmission and SH-AWD which cannot take full power in 1st gear in 2.0T application.

Tested: 2021 Mercedes-Benz E450 Grows Sweeter with an Inline-Six (caranddriver.com)

E450 with 4250lb can do 0-60 in 4.3 sec as per this test. It has about 10-15 more hp/torque compared to TLX S.

How would Acura know if you reflashed the ECU? AFAIK the only way to tell is with Flashpro, and I doubt the dealers keep an aftermarket OBDII dongle around.

Looks like the E450 has a separate electric motor that helps spool the turbo. Boost lag was my biggest gripe with my RDX before I did a tune, and with the 2.0T RDX I had as a loaner a bit ago.

Mild hybrid seems to be the way to go for the Germans. Where are the Japanese/Koreans with this?

Your just a hatter. Like when I was supercharging my 3G the first time and the only thing you told me was “Ka-Boom”.

Very inspiring attitude.

2007 Type-S 6MT was 5.1s 0-60

If I sold my 6MT Type-S today, I would make a profit on it two years later.

According to many popular car review YouTubers.

Who today are the what the magazine reviewers were of yesteryear.

From there to being "one of the most sought after sedans" it's a long road.

Like any FWD, the 3G also has limited performance enhancing potential before front wheel spinning galore sets in for these wanting to buy a used sporty car as a performance update project.
There were more than 250,000 3G TLs produced. That is more than ALL of those other cars Combined!

Of course, as it’s now more affordable yet expensive to professionally modify, you see a hodgepodge of 3G states of condition. This is temporary and is good for thinning the herd of future availability of 3G Exceptional examples. Further increasing the value of the 3G.

Keep talking shit about the 3G. In 20 years it will be treasured and the Type-S your currently looking to finance will be forgotten in the sea of like-styled vehicles of this era. Lack of creativity and originality omnipotently plagues the mind of today.

Yeah, maybe down a steep hill. Got a source for your claim? The fastest time I could find was Motorweek that got 5.8s.
