I believe it's a mesh honeycomb that the vents hide behind. Not really sure why they didn't just make it look like a long horizontal vent like some other cars have. I guess maybe the faux-metallic look of the mesh makes it look more premium?

I like the rest of the car. Interesting design choice that probably won't impact sales.

I don’t like it that much. I feel like Honda also did a dumb decision on having the Touring with the full digital gauges. It could change but I think they should offer a tech package for lower trims that has both the digital and the 9” touchscreen

Sounds like they're following the Acura model of upselling trims. Still can't believe only the TLX Advance trim has folding mirrors and auto windshield wipers.

well yeah until the Type S comes out. I’m just patiently waiting for the ILX replacement Type S right now. We still haven’t seen any spy shots and it sucks.

Based on the lackluster TLX sales, if the Type S ends up being a sales dud I would not be surprised if Acura decides to milk more years out of the current ILX with a 3rd refresh. It makes very little sense for them to come out with a new compact offering if they can't even move TLX units, especially since the profit margin on compacts are smaller. Not to mention the competition can spread their R&D costs across way more units sold since Acura barely sells anything outside of North America, which makes it even harder for Acura to field something competitive.

The ILX has never had SH-AWD, right? How would a Type S ILX work w/o SH-AWD?

Probably the same way the RSX Type S and CL/TL Type S worked: FWD.

Those Type S engines were probably tuned with FWD in mind so the torque may not have been an issue.

The current dual scroll turbo V6 would be too torquey for a FWD ILX, no?

There's a snowballs chance in hell an ILX Type S would get the V6T. All of the other competitors in this space (S3, CLA35, M235i, etc.) get a 2.0T, and Honda has a fantastic 2.0T ready to go that they can plop into it. A grown up CTR would be a hit, considering the biggest knock the CTR has is its polarizing styling.

They probably would only do a 2.0T from the Type R and plant it in the engine pay as well as putting either a DCT or a 10AT tuned for Type S. Also SHAWD could be offered since everyone else in the segment offers an AWD version for the performance version.

Highly doubt the ILX will ever get the 3.0T engine. If my theory is correct about the engine design, there's not enough room in the engine bay of the ILX to fit the 3.0T. IF they redesign the ILX, sure, but it will certainly grow in size. I can see the Accord / TLX 2.0T being dropped in with maybe an AWD setup.

Same. I'm thinking they'll do the 2.0t as you mentioned. Like the Civic has the 1.5t then go to the Type R it has the 2.0t. ILX will have the 2.4 N/A then the Type S will have the 2.0t. I wonder if they'll use the DCT though. THAT would be awesome!

Honda has never really done "packages". Each trim gets the different features. Kind of helps get you more for your money. Ford and Chevy do packages but a lot of times, the one feature you want is included in a package that has 3 other features you don't really care for.

There are 3 joystick knobs sticking out from the mesh panel strip along the dash. What are they for ?

Perhaps (probably?) to control the vents or airflow behind the mesh panel?

Cause there ain't non to be seen...

ILX is atrocious and outdated vehicle, still riding on a 9th Gen Civic platform. Meanwhile, 11th Gen Civic is out....

ILX will probably die a well deserved death. Word around the campfire is that RSX is making a comeback.

ILX is probably the most profitable vehicle for Acura. The car is freaking old and outdated. Yes Acura sales 12-15K units per year. The cost of R&D and everything else are well covered. Pure profit

Unfortunately those new Accords have become the new Honda boys Racing sedan, tricked out with eBay modifications.

Ivory interior on Type-S will be called "Orchid" and not Ivory Seacoast. Will come with aluminum trim.

I was talking to a buddy and he said with the 7500 credit the new Ford Mustang Mach E GT with short range will blow the doors off the Type-S. 0-60 in 3.8 seconds with short range model, 200ish miles of range.

Sadly true. Some have turned out REALLY nice. Others...make me cringe. Lol! I understand individuality but come on. Some stuff just shouldn't be done.

My daughters civic (2016) had remote start standard and fog lights (mid level model) and maybe not digital dash but electronic (No real change of views). It always amazed me that Acura didn't have the things standard on a base model the civic had and this is years later. She has a coupe but while nice I will still take my S5 coupe over it but bang for buck the civic is a pretty nice first car for a kid. Only thing missing is the manual but she didn't want one. Think the styling went a bit downhill later on with the civic but for what her car was new it's a pretty fun car to drive and the mpg with that 1.5 turbo is crazy. Really great entry level car.

At 3.8 sec 0 to 60 it will blow by most of cars on the road.... It's a one trick pony. Do a couple of launches and that's it. How are they driving dynamics? How does this thing hold up on twisty roads... People in the market for a Type S are not going to run and buy EV Mustang instead.

What?? The 911 has always been the quintessential high end but practical daily driver sports car...and generally very reliable.

I personally known people driving their 911 to work every day.

As a side note, BMW seems to have hit some sort of wall, performance wise, with their 3/4 Series size RWD platform...new M4 actually not much faster than an M340i sedan (both tested by C&D), identical to 60, only 0.2 sec quicker to the quarter...sure the M340i tested had the 8 speed but the M4 is 100 HP more powerful on paper, over 100 pounds lighter and with much more aggressive tires.

The G80/82 is a track monster. It will kill the M340i on a track. In a strait line it may be similar for a short while but the top end the M blows by it. The new M cars are deceptively and crazy fast.

Tiger Eye Pearl is a great color-it was actually offered on the Accord Coupe a few years back. It will likely be produced in limited but available numbers early on but like similar "different colors" that Honda/Acura have produced in the past such as Canyon Bronze for two years on the RDX and MDX, it will be harder to get after the initial wave. Most buyers opt for the usual silver, black, or white.

I feel like that color won’t go though or be limited. Maybe out the gate since I believe a few of the TLX S are being built but that Acura’s Type S color. All Type S are supposed to get that color. That is honestly the color I would choose buying the TLX Type S or any Type S for that matter. I do feel like they should offer another Exclusive color down the line.

Agree, The Stats between the M4 MT & the M340 are not equal. Just a few points.

M4 MT 0 to 60 mph: 3.8 Sec Results above omit 1-ft rollout of 0.2 sec.
1/4 mile: 12.0 sec

M340AT 0 to 60 mph 3.8 Roll out 1 ft: 0.3 sec
¼-mile: 12.3 sec

The new M is 5mph trap speed faster in the 1/4 mile than the M3/440. That is a better indicator of how fast the cars are in normal driving. Any metric that starts from a dead stop is more about how much power effectively gets to the ground. 5mph is a lot.

Yeah, at this point the amount of power and torque these cars are making is starting to exceed the limits of the tires from a dead stop. You could give them each 100 more hp and I doubt the 0-60 times will improve very much. I agree, trap speeds and rolling acceleration numbers are much more representative metrics for the true performance of the car.

Plus the M4 is severly hamstrung in the 0-60 department by the fact that it has a 6MT. The F82 M4 with a DCT was almost half a second faster 0-60 compared to the same car with a 6MT, per C&D numbers.

BMW when they publish specs its about .3 to.5 loss for MT. They dropped MT from over 20 models so far. Think the M2,3,4 are the only ones left. The DCT is also gone. Also in some "M's" with MT they reduce the horsepower. M4 503BHP with the 8ZF & 473BHP with the 6MT.

The BMW Performance Driving School in Greer SC has also bailed out on the MT. Too much damage from MT drivers who can't really drive an MT.

Raiti’s Rides on YouTube was asked on his 2022 Civic video when he was able to test drive the Type S and he said in all caps “NEXT WEEK!” I looked back yesterday and I believe he hid the comment because he wasn’t supposed to say anything...

There's one guy on FB. Patrick Ridden I think. If he said it was true, it turns out it was.

He actually got a call and meeting from a lawyer from Honda from what he said and was told to stop giving the info he did. Now his profile on FB is gone...

Type-S cylinder head design

Pretty sure this is the Type-S engine V6 cylinder head with oil pressure controlled/modulated VVT, VVL, VCM.
Also side direct fuel injection, like other Honda/Acura's. Roller cam followers with VCM lifters.

V engine having valve property varying mechanism
Abstract
Provided is a V engine which uses common cylinder heads, and permits favorable arrangement of oil passages so as to accommodate various oil regulating features that are required to operate valve property varying mechanisms. Each end of each cylinder head is formed with a plurality of distribution oil passages opening out at an upper surface of the cylinder head for supplying oil pressure from a main gallery to a valve actuating mechanism. A pair of oil passage connecting members internally defining mutually different connecting oil passages are attached to the upper surfaces of the corresponding end parts of the respective cylinder heads....
