I am a not huge fan of the exterior. I think its ok. I prefer the IS, TLX and 3 series over the G70 when it comes to looks. The digital gauge looks cheap. One thing reviewers tend to overuse on interior space is legroom for the rear. Go sit in both the TLX and G70 front seats and you'll think you're in a different class of vehicle when it comes to how the spacious it feels. I love how there are so many Genesis nuthuggers in both the media and non Genesis owners but no one is buying them. I think its a good product but for the small price difference I am sticking with the Germans.

Think the only thing holding the Genesis line back is the lack of standalone dealerships. Personally had no issues getting the Coupe from a Hyundai dealer but way to many people I run across have a big issue when they don't get free Latte just regular coffee. Grandson got a job in NYC so its back in my driveway & getting used.

Also like the M4C & all the Audis' am not in-love with with the big open grills that are trending right now.

I saw a previous G70 parked the other day and I liked it much better than the current design. Standalone dealership is a huge deal. Most people dont even know the brand exisits.

Nice! Alex on Autos seemed a bit dry to me at first, especially compared to other YouTube reviewers. However, I like it when his goofier side comes out at times (even if only subtly) and I've since started to appreciate his more analytical approach.

I recall from one of his reviews of the 2021 TLX (non-Type S) that he quoted a 5.7s 0-60 time. I'm wondering how he got that most reviews I've seen/read for the car put it in the mid-high 6s range. AoA seemed to generally like the TLX otherwise though, as did Throttle House, SavageGeese, and TheTopher.

I've never seen one in person - sometimes that's a game changer - but I think the lines on the car are awesome. That said - I think the 2G TLX lines are awesome too.

They all will need big arse emblems to fill the grills, then those emblems need little grills to let the air in, and the vicious circle keeps ongoing. :-D

Agreed. On paper, the Lexus IS and Genesis G70 have comparable leg room and head room measurements, but in real life after sitting in all three there's no question the TLX feels a lot bigger inside, likely because of greater visibility from the windows and wider shoulder room. You can't underestimate girth, no homo.

Lol, comical. I haven’t been inside the cabin of the G70 but when I was shopping for my TLX I noticed the increase in space from the driver side to the passenger side. You typically have to battle for elbow room in the arm rest but the TLX offers plenty of room. Granted leg room and rear seat space can be questionable, the size was good enough for me.

The TLX is WIDE. It's wider than the RDX- and longer! And heavy. The TLX is a BIG girl!

I saw a TLX parked in front of a Murano once. Despite only being 2" longer, the TLX looked much longer. I guess its proportions just make it look way more stretched out.

I was initially inclined not to agree with you but since I have an RDX A-Spec loaner this weekend, I figured I’d size them up:

you’re right! The TLX is a chunky monkey compared with the RDX.

that said, I’m miffed that my TLX didn’t come with Sport+:

I think he’s referencing said ‘huggers’ in the automotive media community…not so much owners.

For all the accolades, I see very few Genesis products on the roads of central Jersey. Tons of Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Audi and MB though.

I have a lot respect for people who actually own a Genesis.

I can't say that I see more than a handful every year.

Partly because I work from home and don't drive much - but also because I live squarely in Ford/Buick/Chevy country. Lots of Hondas too - and the occasional Acura and MB and Lexus and BMW - but that's pretty much it.

Since this is a sub-forum for TLX vs others, my question to you is. Do we have to own the car or cars that we praise to, otherwise we are considered as "nuthuggers"?

Provided you're adding to the conversation, which in this case is cars that are in the TLX space - what you drive is irrelevant.

Little more of a split by application here. Fords & Chevy's are typically Expedition, Suburban, F-150 & Silverado with trailer hitches, for people who use the SUV as heavy movers. A major percentage of the people in Ocean Isle Beach live the Triangle, Triad & Charlotte areas in NC. No matter what they drive at home you still can't beat a USA built full sized pickup truck or full sized SUV for carrying, trailer capacity & comfort.

The typical SUV's are the BMW X5 size German, Japanese & MDX mom drive the kids to school & sports practice type SUV. That is where the Genesis GV-80 is starting to show up to a point where you start to notice them on the road or in the school pickup line. Not many if any Genesis sedans in the area, so far can't remember seeing one on the street.

Raleigh's Genesis store shares space with a Hyundai store. Overall its an off brand operation with Mazda, Genesis, Hyundai, Subaru. They own a large lot across the street next to the local Caddy/Buick store & would not be surprised to see a standalone Genesis operation there in the near future.

Why is he comparing an IS350 to a Type S? It should be the IS500 no?

Makes no sense at all to compare those two cars. Reviewer is also laughably biased. How can he say the Acura will be more reliable? LOL huh? It's a new engine and that Lexus has been producing that same engine for years with proven reliability. WTF. Lexus is known for reliability. Dude is paid by Acura or something.

I recently bought another GV70 and even though I now own two of them, I have never seen another one out in the wild (a fact which I actually really like).

AoA also has a really good review of the GV70:

Could it be because when similarly equipped that the IS350 cost more than a Type S?

Paying more for a Lexus than a comparable Acura? Think most people would have no problem with that.

The flip side is you don't have to buy what you don't want with ala-cate pricing which I favor. I buy my cars equipped with what I want & leave out what I don't want in most but not all cases.

Acura gives you limited choices maybe forcing you to step up a level instead of just adding a feature you want.

Bear, the question was why did the reviewer choose to compare the Type S to the IS350 and not the IS500. The obvious answer was that they come in at about the same price and Lexus promotes the IS350 as a sports sedan. The IS500 on the other hand costs $7,000 more. Question answered no need for nit picking.

Question answered no need for nit picking.
Didn't he say that he couldn't get the IS500 at that time so he used what was available and yes well optioned IS350 is more than the Type S. SavageGeese made a comment that handling package is a must on the IS so yeah they get pretty pricy when we'll optioned.

Wouldn’t doubt that he did. I was a bit surprised that a IS500 build option is still not available on the Lexus site.

This whole time I was wondering how it's possible that I've only seen two 2G TLX's on the street yet the lot at the local Acura dealership has been so empty. Well, it turns out that they closed down. Second Acura dealership in the area to close down in recent years. It seems unfathomable that the closest Acura dealership to a city like San Francisco is 30 minutes away, but here we are. I thought sales were supposed to be good...guess maybe just not around these parts. I saw so many 1G TLX's when they were new, with the vast majority being the V6 models. They were all over the place. I can't explain why I haven't seen any 2G ones...at this point I've seen more Ford Broncos this past week (three) than I have 2G TLX's ever.

Meh, both are AWD, V6 and ~$54k with similar features/functions. IS500 he talks about but it's also only RWD.

, i've helped a couple people shop/negotiate shop for Lexus's over the years and that's the most frustrating aspect. Not being able to find the features they want and can't compare different dealership for preconfigured cars on the lot. When they are part of a package group it makes it easier, just have to deal with interior/exterior color

If they were comparable, the TLX has a superior AWD system, 10AT vs a archaic 6AT, 2019 platform vs 2013 platform, ....
So paying more for a older tech less comparable Lexus, think most people would have a problem with that.
Still difficult to believe Lexus is using a 6AT in 2021

Overall from my observed experience, Lexus are slightly better than Acura from a quality/reliability. Honda and Toyota are about the same, Subaru is slightly behind. YMMV

Just so much car guy stuff. To the rest of the market (90%+?) its a Lexus vs Acura & Lexus is a Lexus.

The question is what's the rest of the market, to the FWD ES market I'd say sure the vast majority don't care.
The IS market is most probably much more selective about the vehicle design/engineers and their marketing for IS has shown that so may be 90% or may be 30%.
No one really knows.

Lexus is a mass produced status brand not a performance brand. Virtually no competitive performance cars that sell to any reasonable extent due to lack of performance. At the both the mid range $65,000 as well as at the top end $90,000 & up a few expensive low production mid level performance LC series GT's to go with the LS buyers sedan.
