Wow, Hondata isn't even bothering? And the reply by Ktuner on the forum doesn't seem very inspiring. If there's no or little aftermarket support, it'll make dumping this off the list incredibly easy, no matter how cheap they get once the market stabilizes ... which how everything's going, doesn't seem like ever ...

Would not expect them to do anything till they see some significant level of volume in V6DOHC sales. Its not like they will have a customer for every V6DOHC engine sold.

considering that this is a new engine and it will likely be in production for a while, it would make sense for them to start early and get a head of the competition.

No. You need mass & willingness to modify. I don't see either with the Type-S The more you sell, mass, the greater the chance to get enough people who will risk a new $53,000 car on a new tune. If the entire market for the Type-S is like the members of this board I don't see it happing early. Its easy to say just drop a tune init for people who have never done it. Hodna deserving or not screams reliability.

This type of logic comes up one way or another in every single thread. Risk averse people are not going to tune a car for fear of the tune causing issues with their warranty. This in turn limits the number of potential sales.

Here is one of the things the tuners will have to figure out.

The BMW M4 base 3.0L generates 473BHP on 18.9PSI. The TLX-S 3.0L generates 355BHP on 15PSI. The BMW M4CS 3.0L generates 503BHP on 24.7PSI for a gain of 30BHP & 73LB FT. That's 5.8PSI for 30 BHP which will bring the Type-S to the stock rated M340BHP which IIRC is at 15.0 PSI.

How much pressure do you think the Acura engine can take starting with as much boost as they do,15PSI, to get just 355BHP?

I could care less about this. The car felt plenty fast for a daily for me but given what p2r explained about the engine I’m pretty sure a tune will make good numbers.

I'm assuming you're referring to this?

Man, that exhaust port looks tiny. As he said, it's likely for quicker spool times and low-end power, which is likely why the car doesn't perform well on the top end, and the rev limiter is 6200RPM. This probably means power potential is going to be limited without swapping/CNC porting the cylinder heads. Eh, I don't know if I'm willing to mess that much with a car going forward. I was hoping a turbo swap, downpipe, drop-in filters and a tune would really wake the car up, and it will, but those heads will be really choking out power. Plus, we don't even know if how the transmission will behave with all that extra power through it.

It's no wonder the Type-S takes nearly as long to get to 130MPH (24.2s) as it does the M340i to get to 150MPH (24.6s). I'm not crapping on the Type-S ... I do like a lot of things about it, and the looks have grown on me quite a bit to the point I like it better than the M340i, but for what I want out of my next car, that B58 is hard to turn down. Who knows though, hopefully somebody does swap out the turbo with the stock longblock sooner than later and we can see what kind of power it can reliably put out.

follow their instagram. They have posted some small updates. I think this type s tuned is going to be interesting as they stated the engine has a lot of potential. Regardless, I wouldn’t do any of that to my vehicle.

You could care less and The car felt plenty fast but you’re interested in hypothetical tunes??? I keep seeing this here . Nobody cares about how fast the type s is but everybody is excited for tunes that don’t exist yet.

I DO NOT CARE about tuning my vehicle and I won’t but I still can be interested in seeing how much this vehicle has the potential to produce. How is that an issue?

Did you expect anything different from a 4 cylinder TSX owner? Some don't want to accept reality. Like a "tune" is going to make the TLX-S magically have 400 hp. These guys keep forgetting that with an engine that has (get ready for a hard on engineers / fanboys) elegant 6 bolt main design with hand crafted forged internals, running a single twin scroll (Insert undersized) turbo pushing a ferocious 15 PSI sending 400 285 wHP through a sophisticated SH-AWD with torque vectoring clutch packs gizmos and once the wizards provide a tune, it will be known as the NSX Type-S. The sun is bright and it's another day to kick ass.

🥱

I’ve owned more than just a tsx. You guys get so butt hurt when someone doesn’t agree with what you believe is right. And you still think think your tl is the second coming lol. Look I like the type s for what it is. Is it at the bottom of the segment in performance yeah so what. Does it drive amazing yep it sure does. Is it perfect? No car in its segment is not even the BMW. It’s a nice daily that I may have the potential to purchase vs the s5.

As far tuning… who knows what the potential the has but I’ll believe p2r statements over anything YOU have to say.

Do you think this will be how '22 and future models will be going forward with the model name under the right headlight?

The '22 MDX doesn't count as Acura only skipped the '21 MY in name only.

I honestly doubt that. I think this is just a special vehicle for Acura, so they did that. But who knows right? I don't like to speculate before it's confirmed

I get really tired of hearing about tunes. The reality is that VERY few people tune their vehicles. It only looks that way on forums because everyone who does tune them is on the forum. And as “Bear” has repeated, if you are going to tune the S, then you have to compare it to the competitors with a tune also.

Just as much as I believe you and the other guys here who own rolling dumpsters but talk a lot about performance. Only ass hurt users here are the keyboard warriors that want to defend this shit brand and have nothing to show for it. Keep up the good fight bruh and to your followers as well.

Yeah I hold my TL to the highest standard. Last time I've check I have yet to see you or your Pal's be able to afford to keep a vehicle in show room condition after 15 years and do well done clean modifications. But y'all like to have the guy at Autozone change your wiper blades and order all the parts you need on a budget to keep those dumpsters moving.. Sounds like your the ass hurt one around here. Please show me what you owned and how well you kept it.. Keep trying to throw shade at me, I'll just keep laughing.

Still who wouldn’t won’t to see what a tuned type s could produce regardless if few people tune them or not. Hell I’ve seen tuned corollas that pulled some nice spec as well as the accord.

Power cost money, how much do you want to spend? The picture of the vid the guy has some cylinder heads that he is talking about CNC machining to improve the flow. Don't know what it would cost to get any worthwhile upper end power out of them. That said base price to do the job on my DOHC heads is $4,000 without camshafts which you will need 4 of. Then to feed the redone heads you need new superchargers. If you already have $4000 sunk in the heads you are not going to waste that money with crap blowers. Cash register rings up another $3000. So now you are upto $7000 But you still need

Fuel system
intake system
Bigger intercooler
Charge pipe Meth or E85
Fuel It CPI
Down Pipes
Exhaust system
Axles
Wheels /tires.
A lot of money gets spent on a custom tune.

To me the problem is with the restrictions in the head why bother. Don't think you can get much out of a $500 tune. Engine looks to me, watch the engineer hall monitors jump on this, to be designed as a low RPM grunt motor. All its power is down low, maybe it was really designed for the big SUV's with the cost being spread over the TLX lines to aid profitability.

Why tunes like Burgers JB4 work so well is the engines they are tuning are designed to be tuned. The factory prefers to be the tuner, selling MPPK & MPPSK power increases, by encoding the software. The code over time has been broken & ECU flashes developed. Another is Piggy Back Spoofed by the JB4 intercepts the sensor signals & feeds false data to the ECU. The ECU running on false input thinks the engine is developing 10PSI when its really at 18psi. Timing, fuel flow & on & on are all intercepted & changed.

Think about the using gross horsepower. Acura goes from a 290BHP engine (305? at one time) to a 355BHP engine by developing a whole new engine being sold at a $7000 premium. They have gained 65BHP. I can gain 65BHP for about $600.

I couldn't have said it better myself, but even if I did, it would go on deaf ears. Would would an ex grease monkey know? Likely nothing to the guys who order budget modifications from Amazon or who have a friend of a friend of a friend who modified their vehicles and I'll speak on their behalf because I want to seem important and knowledgeable.

Money is subjective to those that actually have it to spend it. If you want to play, expect to pay. Can't have it all, modifying a vehicle, expecting it to be as reliable and chasing numbers. It's just wasted text Bear.

LOL back in the last century I owned a speed shop. I had a big sign over the counter: SPEED COSTS MONEY! HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO?

As for the new V6, I think the small exhaust ports and high boost were strictly to eliminate turbo lag, deliver more low rpm power and create a flatter torque curve. So what if it limits rpm? The typical Acura customer will love the sensation of more power initially and is never going to use the top end.

Agree & thats exactly what they got.......So the whole 450/500BHP "tune" is so much Alice In Wonderland without an MDX loaded up with $100 bills.

Funny because it's true and 95% of members here will never actually know this statement other than installing a cold air intake and doing a muffler / resonator delete.

The performance shop I brought my TL and M40i to get some time on the rollers had a banner in their office that said that, conveniently next to a large turbo on the shelf

All my years messing with vehicles and being around some ballers of car enthusiasts, these guys have no regrets dropping well over 50K in modifications into their vehicles.

Just got around to watching SG's IS350 review ... it seems more like a preview to the IS500 than anything. He's already driven and tested it, and he says it's going to be revealed in September. Judging by the fact that he's already gotten time to drive it, I'm hoping that means the reveal will happen very early in September (right after Labor Day?). I'm most interested in what they're going to do as far as pricing, which will hopefully be revealed as well.

Type S is Overpriced, IS350 is Overpriced and the IS500 will be Overpriced. But at least the IS500 will have decent performance and that Engine is wonderful. It may be worth it for that alone.
