Interesting article. I bet Acrua was hoping for something other than handling like, "an absolute peach". But it sounds like they got the driving dynamics right.
And then we get this:
And there it is. Transmission is the weak spot. Again.
Say it with me Acura - ZF 8 speed. It ain't broke. No need to fix it.

Yeah, I don't know how C&D managed 5.9 s. The SavageGeese video review and another AZ member's Dragy video clearly showed something like 6.2 s.

MotorWeek (extremely reputable for vehicle testing) for 0-60 5.8, AoA (whom doesn't state how he tests) got 5.7

Another YouTuber (SamCarLegion) used a draggy and found the G2 TLX a hair (~0.2 seconds) quicker than the G1 TLX on back-to-back testing on the same course.
So MotorTrend was definitely an outlier.
At this point, it's safe to say the TLX 2.0T is definitely high-5's to low 6's 0-60. I anticipate high 4's for the TLX Type S.

Correct, MotorWeek is quite reliable and got a 5.8 sec 0-60. Alex on Auto's got 5.7 and according to his website "All numbers are recorded on a 20Hz GPS accelerometer on a closed private course."

Should have added to my other 8ZF post. Zero lag in turbo cars on launch. The 8ZF gives the option to swap out the torque converter for an electric motor, as BMW & some other German manufactures have done with the new MY. This allows automakers to develop hybrid variants with minimal changes to the drivetrain.

2021 Acura TLX A-Spec Long-Term Update | Infotainment system hits a pothole
The first few thousand miles of motoring in our 2021 Acura TLX A-Spec long-term test car were problem-free, but that changed after we took it on a spirited drive through the winding hills of southern Indiana. You can read about how it handled a full day of thrashing here, but this story will focus on the dead infotainment system previewed in the headline.
About halfway through the twisty route, every sizable pothole or big bump in the road would cause the infotainment system to black out. A message would appear declaring “MOST NET LOSS,” and it would quickly dip to black after that. The next big pothole would cause it to flicker back on, but it never remained on for any long periods of time after this. In addition to the screen loss, the speakers would make some rather disturbing crackling noises.
This continued throughout the day and for several days beyond that. If the roads I was driving on were flat or devoid of major problems, the infotainment system would generally be fine. It took a major jostling of the car’s bones to cause it to act up, but Michigan provided enough of those to make the problem exceedingly annoying in a hurry. So, to the dealership it went.
After the local dealer looked it over, they said there was a TSB out for this issue, and that they’ve seen it pop up on other RDXs and TLXs already. Turns out, there are a number of wire connectors between the infotainment system and wiring harness that are causing the problems and coming loose. The fix? Newly designed connectors from Acura, plus the wiring harness is ever so slightly freed up to allow for a bit of movement from violent impacts. Doing this (plus using the stronger new connectors) should ensure that the stress on these connectors is never so great as to cause issues again.
The job was completed under warranty and took a full day from diagnosis to the return of the car. We’ve put several hundred miles on the car since the fix, and they’ve been completely trouble-free — it sure was nice to listen to Acura’s excellent ELS audio system again. That said, this issue is one we’ll follow closely to see if Acura’s fix truly is a long-term solution.
We’ll have a deeper dive on how Acura’s TouchPad infotainment system works (now that it’s actually working again) soon, so watch out for that update in the near future.

Re-watched this. Seems like people who really know what they are talking about and back it up with facts. I do enjoy the one reviewer slapping the other down with typical comments about the 3 series.

This was by far one of the best reviews of TLX. In general, watch their Porsche Macan review, it's just wow! They never disappoints. They are only bias toward Patagonia ahahha! Always same brand of cloths.

The best part of Savagegeese review is at 28:19 minutes He just nailed it! "If you want a German car, just go buy a German car!" LMAO!
The whole video is summarized in 10 seconds but best 10 seconds ever!

exactly. I had a built motor 350Z with Greddy Twin Turbos for over 15 years which I traded for a E39 M5 a few years ago. It was my pride and joy for many years. I was a huge poster at www.my350z.com with over 30,000 posts. Once I traded my 350z, I no longer posted there. I never once thought of going into the forum and telling them how outdated the 370z was and how little they improved the car over the years. I didnt go in there to rain on there parade saying my 2000 M5 from the factory is still faster than any Z car on the road. Im not in there now telling them how the new 400z is nothing more than Q60 red sport without back seats. I have moved on. I feel like many people here have moved onto German vehicles which is fine but they lurk here like a dark cloud. I dont get it.

well said! Very well said. Actually we have some amazing members here who have tons of knowledge. They don’t own an Acura but their input is beyond great. But then we have members who owned an Acura or their mom had one. They moved on to German, Korean or another Japanese brand and still they are stuck here without any input. Their mandate is simply to bash Acura. I honestly feel bad for them and I wonder how come these people have so much time to come and waste on a forum that they have nothing to do. Anyway, good to see some good products coming out from Acura brand and can’t wait to drive the Type S soon!

It always seems like Acura cycles - they have a really strong generation, then some mis-steps, then strong, then mis-steps... Some people may fight me but I think the last 5-6 years have been the "mis-step", and I really see a lot of promise with the 2022 MDX and this updated TLX. I think the RDX has stood out as the best buy over the last 5 years. Acura still needs to overhaul their thoughts on the ILX.

Expect it would be a good plan to move one once Acura's Public relations department & its strongest fans stop keep trying to measure the TLX against the German cars. Look at all the stuff they get wrong about the TLX, so how can they be expected to get things right about what they see as competition.
No difference than the Corvette form where the fans keep trying to measure the StingRay against Porsche & McLaren.
Its one of the fun things about cars. Besides if there were no one but TLX owners, salesmen & fans here the forum would be dead.

Did "Sam" say if he used the Dragy roll-out number or street start number? C&D got 5.9 so they are all close enough for government work at high fives. No reason to think the DOHC Turbo 6 will not make it into the 4 second range. Cars we talk about with less weight but also less power have been in the 4's for at least the past 10 years.

A few tenths one way or another on the street does not mean much. Most cars will run better in the morning than in the afternoon. When I was bracket racing we almost always added some time to the cars morning time trial ET's for afternoon elimination runs.

All in the same ballpark. The magazines put down traction compound & run any number of times till they get the "best" time. I also believe they use an algorithm that normalizes atmosphere, altitude, temperature ect.

Agree but for even power I would take the V6. A lot less stress on the system. Am only interested in a Turbo if it gives me more power & regardless a turbo 4 is not something I would buy. Have driven 5.2 to 60 turbo 4's & they are quick but are just not satisfying. Hard to get beyond the 4 cylinder noise especially when they are working hard.

^^ "Acura thinks they can compete with Porsche Panamera and Audi A7"
Are they insane, how in their bloody minds do they even even dream about these things. The RLX couldn't even compete with the 5 series ...
I wouldn't be surprised if Acura thinks in their minds the Type-S can compete with an Audi RS5 ... because why not, marketing will take care of it with BS slides and Youtube videos. This is why the new TLX is not getting respect, with Acura dreaming in living color.

Maybe it was just the whole Audi lineup or just clickbait for the TLX fans. Video heading said "2021 Acura TLX Review / Attack on Audi?"

Watch the intro, from reviewer Acura is the one making the assumption they can compare themselves to those models. He clearly mentioned he spoke to an Acura rep. I stopped watching as soon as he mentioned that comparison.

Ah my bad, for whatever reason video started shortly after that when I clicked it. But interesting enough, it's the reviewer who says that and they never explain if the Acura rep is a dealership rep or actual Acura of America. There's been no mention of those at Acura news website or any of the YouTube Acura video's. So it could just be some Acura dealership rep.

And he's actually right, the TLX is lower in height than a 3-series but is actually wider than a 7-series. I remember looking it up at the time and the TLX's height-to-width ratio is about the same as the 1st gen Audi A7.
#2355
The TLX's team lead in last year's reveal video said something along the lines about the "low-and-wide" proportions being more akin to an Audi A7 or Porsche Panamera than a BMW 3-series, not that the TLX is competing against the A7 or Panamera.

It's the design (length, width and clearance) is compared to those vehicles. Not the actual car, performance and of course price. The issue is everyone derails and interprets anything about Acura negative to make a point. But people ignore the fact that Audi RS6 Avant (reviewed by Savagegeese last week) doesn't have auto-sunshades in rear with a price tag of $120K. MDX has manual sunshades with $60K. if Acura had that issue, we would have had 10 topics about it,

Acura told us they were getting rid of the RLX and the TLX would be the new sedan flagship. Since it has to shoulder the burden of both a compact and mid-size car, these design decisions are starting to make more sense.

Actually, from a marketing point of view that's exactly what you want to do. It subconsciously associates your car with cars of a higher pedigree. Marketing is fundamentally about creating a perception of your product in the minds of the customer.

Did you ever see Michael Kors comparing their bags to Zara? Of course you always tend to associate your brand with higher end and not lower end. 300 ahahah! May be compared it to Lada.
