Perhaps it's wishful thinking but that was my very first impression when I looked at the picture.

I assume you mean the RLX? Boring and not exciting. Pass.

I'm not sure how the RL is relevant to this thread.

I may have been tempted to go for the RLX if the rumored sport-hybrid option was available.

The look is a bit conservative for my taste, but I do like the dual screen layout in that vehicle.

DEAR AUTOMAKERS: It's Time To Stop Pushing Your Crazy Infotainment Systems

In October, Consumer Reports issued its annual auto reliability rankings. It revoked the “recommended” status from the “otherwise excellent” 2013 Honda Accord V6, citing “notable audio-system problems.”

Glashub...I agree with you. Car companies are becoming obsessed with bringing gadgetry in automobiles and quite honestly, they are becoming a tremendous source of frustration for the consumers.

For example, navigation systems that are cumbersome, restrictive and I know this is not Acura's fault but a legal requirement.

My USB integration is horrible in my TL Tech, the random playback is anything but random...always the same songs in the same sequence (and this is the case in my RDX too)

The voice commands are flaky at times

The dual touch screen on the RLX and MDX is not as effective as they would like

and on and on and on....

I would take more buttons that work and eliminate all the tech features. One feature I would like in all cars would be a Cell Phone zapper. The car is in gear and ALL wireless devices are shut off. I know I am going to get flamed for this one but its been demonstrated that texting/cell phone is just as dangerous as driving drunk....why can't the punishment fit the crime?

Tech is a way to attract young buyers and to keep people upgrading. In a/v you can now get a receiver that lets you hook up 11 speakers, 2 subs, and has a dsp to support it. Never mind the innards are basically the same and that the receiver which supports 7 speakers will be good for years. Got to sell new receivers. Cars are the same way now. Ever imagine a normal person's room with 11 speakers and 2 subs?

Why punish everybody? Most cars hold 4 to 6 people. The punishment suggested does not fit the crime.

^^ I knew the comment was going to trigger a response and while I agree with you, like everything in life, the good ones are always punished for the behaviors of the bad ones. It would be impossible to try and locate who is using the cell phone....trust me, I understand your point but at the same time, people losing their lives because of careless drivers texting is just getting out of control....I am sure you would agree with me if you lost someone very dear to you because of a careless cellphone user

Besides....we all functioned without cell phones in the past and its sad if people can't ride in a vehicle and not have to use their cellphone. What a great way to re-introduce old fashion conversation

They could always just in-force DUI laws & have a bigger safety hit a lot quicker.

Yeah, but by the author's line of logic, talking to someone in the car is a distraction.

I think it's foolish to say technology is being "forced" on people. I do think that improperly tested and/or designed technology is the more the culprit. Technology is going to keep getting added and there's going to be more gadgetry in cars. I doubt any of that is going to stop anytime soon.

Go to the Q50 forums and see how tech is affecting them. Tech is not the problem -- the problem is that companies use their buyers as beta-testers. Got to get the latest out asap -- never mind making sure it works and is safe. I'm not really sure what your point is or what you're arguing. The truth is if you do your research -- CUE, Mytouch, the Infiniti system and others are wacked by bugs and then optimized in later generations.

The problem with Hyundai is that the upper "tier" models have been based on ripping off the most significant design cues of other cars. With the current Genesis the front can be mistaken for a Mercedes at a quick glance but it looks like now they are opting for the Audi look. Similarly the rear of the upcoming model now looks like the rear of a Lexus but the side profile almost looks like current TL or even Audi A7 towards the rear.

On the other hand some of their models are very original looking like the Sonata, Genesis coupe, and Azera.

^^ There is only so much originality can take you before you cross into the 4th Gen TL territory. Trying too hard to be different can make or break you....the civic in 2006 was a game changer in the segment but the recent generation hasn't gone far enough.

Its very tough as a car designer these days...do something too original and it could come and bite you. Do a gradual evolution, you are deemed as being lazy. Try to use some pre-existing cues and you are accused of cheating/robbing.

Quite honestly, I don't know what I want with Acura anymore....I want it to be fresh, classy, sexy, innovative, yet not too over the top. I just want a well balanced vehicle I guess...time will tell if they pull it off.

Agree, they can design some very attractive cars. Wonder if the new Genesis is a re-skin of the old one? That would limit their options.

That being said it would be IMHO a smart deal to spin Genesis off as a separate division with its own dealer network.

in-force ? I think you mean enforce?

I am concerned as well about all the over the top "innovations".
Perhaps I'm posting in the crazy hope that some car manufacturers might actually read these posts and take some feedback. Remote, I guess!
I don't want or need a car that parks itself.
I don't need or want a connection to the internet.
I hope they maintain the option for me to buy a base model with a great engine and a great transmission (not a cvt).

I predict the Genesis will leave something to be desired in the ride/handling department. People who have lived in South Korea claim that the Koreans have always viewed a car as an appliance. Besides it seems ride/handling is the hardest aspect to master. I'll bet the car will be laden with tech. Heck the 1st gen Genesis had tech that's just now showing up in other cars.

I've been on Q50 forums since the beginning of the year, so I definitely know what's going on with the InTouch system. It's why I'm not already in a Q50.

You clarified your point when you said "Tech is not the problem". I had believed you thought we shouldn't have the latest and greatest because it's inherently bug-ridden which is silly. I hear too often "there's too much tech in cars these days!" and have to laugh. Ok, so this is the year we're supposed to put the brakes on tech? I bet somebody's grandfather was bitching about headlights or AC when they had to be replaced or malfunctioned, too. "We didn't have to fix these stupid things in the good ol' Model T days!" lol.

I agree that some of this stuff is just rushed out or just poorly tested. Either that or they don't give a flip because, as you said, people will be beta testers for them, but something makes me feel that isn't necessarily the case because it also gives them bad publicity. Who knows.

I also see a trend on forums, or maybe it's not a trend, where people really don't care that they're going back to the dealership to repair their "whatever" for the 3rd time and just say "oh well, I'll be out of it in 3 more years since it's just a lease!" And your next car won't give you the same problem? To an extent people should expect more, not accept pathetic quality. This goes for any manufacturer/model. In Infiniti's case, which you mentioned, it almost pisses me off that people are still buying a car that locks up and you have to pull over and reboot by restarting the vehicle at times. At the same time, I hope Infiniti fixes their issues because I do like the vehicle, but I'm sure some Q50 owners are going batty by now.

As time goes on, I don't know if my next car will be the TLX. Even though it's only a few months away, I may need a car sooner than that. However, as time goes on, I'm less bothered by it simply because maybe Honda/Acura is doing exactly what we want - testing and making sure the thing works. But again, who knows.

I'll have to see this in person, but all I see from the front is a mash-up of a Lexus IS and maybe an Audi/Aston Martin. Then, there's this :

I went to the 2014 new automobile show in Miami over the weekend. It was depressing going into the Acura display. It really showed how they need to step up to the plate to compete. The only vehicle that had interest was the new MDX!

@Rocketsfan, I love tech. I'm usually a 1st mover. I guess I'm jaded since I've come to the realization that as a 1st mover I'm a beta tester and although most things are fixed with software updates -- it does degrade the user experience and thrill of owning something cutting edge. Hence my empathy with the Q50 owners. If I bought that car ir would be gone pretty quickly.

@Packagingpro -- Last year at the LA Auto show -- same thing. Had the display next to Audi. Oh my! Throngs of people at the Audi display and just me at the Acura display. Ironically to me going back and forth from Audi cars to Acura cars -- I thought the Acura had the much better interior. Came away disappointed with the all of the fake Audi chrome and the looseness of the knobs, etc. Sexy looking cars though.

The infotainment system is one of the biggest reasons I want a new car! My GPS on my 2001 is antiquated and slow. I can't upload MP3s and there is no downloading of contacts from my exchange server. Frankly as a phone can do all these things well, I wish cars just had a drop module for a phone like device so the infotainment system was never antiquated as long as it connects to a nice big high res touch screen in the console I'd be thrilled.

I've always thought Acura's have great interiors: functional, classy, and comfortable.

But as I suspect it's the exterior design that sells. Your last statement says it all. Though we like to think an auto purchase is a rational one, the average consumer buys with emotion and feelings, not thought. Too bad Acura doesn't seem to understand this. IMHO.

Well a big part of my decision to buy an IS350 Fsport was the beautiful gray with red interior sitting in the showroom. I'm shallow. I know. Don't flame me. Luckily the rest of the car turned out to be good too.

If the TLX flops about as hard as the RLX in the initial reaction dept. I think it will be time for Acura to clean house in the car design dept. and hire someone away from Audi.

I think if the TLX is a serious flops, I think that might be the final nail in the Acura casket.

I want to provide a quick clarification....This could be a language barrier for me (being French speaking) but I think I am not describing what I am opposing in cars. Its not the technology as as AC, heated seat, heated steering, drive by wire, ABS etc. What I am not overly excited about is the high tech electronic devices that makes the car more like a computer....I am not saying that people have to share my view, but I am simply expressing what I don't need in my car.

I am not into the type of technology as lane departures, automatic braking etc. but for the record, I am not offended if people disagree with me. I am aware that we are all different and are not seeking the same out of car experience. I was just expressing my personal preference.

Quick Reply: When do you think the next gen TL (TLX) will be released?
