exactly! that's why punched cats are popular Austin.
look at this..
$425 for stock gutted downpipes, mind you, I bought stainless TURBOBACK for $400. They are always worth punching pretty much, and if dudes with turbo's will rock them to +100 hp over stock, they obviously help
ps, I know its a total 'across the pond' example, but still think about it.

I'd rather just wait. The major stuff is being done first, one mod a month, that's all I can afford. Then other stuff will ensue. Exhaust will probably be the last thing I do.

No rasp?
#3165
that guy, dan....k that sold me the procats also has his stocks for sale...but honestly Austin, if you're going that route, why not just take yours off your car and empty them out?!!?? You could probably just remove the jpipe and use a long spade bit on a strong drill to drill the majority of the core material out. Then it would REALLY look stock. I couldn't fathom putting that much effort into swapping for another set of stock primaries...type s or not.
J.
OH...and FYI...I am not totally stock as I have the stage III...but I can assure you that the V3 Jpipe absolutely added rasp to my setup where I had none before. I even swapped to oem jpipe to be sure and it was gone.
Hopefully they accept my offer on that vibrant, I'm really thinking I'll be happy with that.
The more I think about it, the more i'm thinking of just having that whole section cut out and just have them do the vibrant and then the dynomax right behind it...why even risk having to have double work done?! Just double up on the resonators...it's not like it's going to go back to being totally silent.

no rasp, as the rest of my exhaust is stock
only the rears gave the most trouble. i had another vehicle to drive at the time, so having the TL down for a couple days for the install wasn't a problem. i took my time by spending 2-3 hrs a day over a span of 3 days to swap them out.

Thanks guys, it's just something for me to consider and think about what I want for the car in the future. Plus, reading this is giving me knowledge so I won't have to ask as much again later down the road.

True that, buddy. Yeah, 2 to 3 hours a day for 3 days...JEEZ!
I had the fronts out in about an hour...the rear took me about another 2 hours...and reinstallation, including grinding and aligning the jpipe took another 2 hours or so. Not TOO bad, but trying to wiggle out the rear DID give me a WTF feeling like I wanted to cry.
...but I didn't. That's why I couldn't imagine doing that knowing I'd ever have to do it again!

I removed all those brackets and the two rear left coil packs etc...preemptively...still...had SUCH a hard time with it...but what a sigh of relief once I got it out (and realized there was another bracket holding it from underneath).
Funny, if access wasn't an issue, this would have been a 20 minute install for front and back!

wth for!?!?!? You're perfectly capable! PLUS, I would LOVE to never do this again...
I really think you could probably empty out your cats while still on the car...maybe with a file/sawblade and drill bits...I bet it could be done.

^^^ well i rode in Steven Bells Type S after I installed the RV6 V3 jpipe....all other exhaust components were stock....and damn it sounds awesome....
there was no sound change at normal cruising.....but when you hit WOT, it sounded just awesome, had a little growl but nothing too loud....
now if you add PCD's to this whole thing, hello RASP !!!

am glad you did brother....its good to go with a reputable brand....and in my books XLR8 is right there with UR....and since he is a vendor here, if you encounter any issues (i hope you dont) he is right here !!!

^The XLR8 pulley is UR homeslice. But, as Jer pointed out today, with some additional tweaks!
#3186
...hmmm...Chad, I think you mean with some EXTRA HOLES!!! LOL...but yeah, sure did.
According to Josh, UR stopped making this pulley for the TL...and he worked out a deal so they'd continue to improve the design and lighten the weight etc...while maintaining integrity...I'd be eyeballing and I'd have end up spending 170 bucks on a Ralco...ended up spending 45 more for a UR...can't go wrong. and only 1 pound, supposedly. Awesome! Plus, I finally helped support a forum vendor, which feels good.
My final push is that Josh says that once his supply is gone, UR will likely not make any more for him and he won't restock (he needs too big of a commitment to place an order with them, my assumption).
Can't wait to get it on.
J.

I may need to buy one while I can. I fear we may be getting to that point on a lot of items.

Go for it, bud...I'm SURE he was kinda juicing it up to inspire a frantic purchase, but it worked...I have been in the position before where I don't want to spend the money and then the option to buy something is gone and then I'm PISSED and ready to pay whatever to get it!

Dude, sure I want to, but I've got to cut this out....honest.
Actually, with the J-pipe and the TBS, the Type S has some pretty good jump to it. It feels great driving it. I'm pretty satisfied.

But just imagine how much better it will be with a lightweight pulley

^^^ Yes you guys are!
I know how much better it would be-I've driven Buda's car with the UR pulley. It was pretty amazing.

Even more reason for you to get one

This week, I've been revving and pushing a little with the new cats...my needle has moved the same way it would when I drive like a grandma...I'm not even kidding...I can't believe how much "lighter" the car feels when accelerating from a stop or when rolling and you just give it a little gas in 6th...I can only imagine how much better it'll be with the pulley.
Awesome!
