She can't drive my car!
Yeah, no 6 foot jumps for me...I'm not that comfortable in the air yet...or maybe never...I've hurt enough from very mild falls to know I don't want to go too much bigger...I even skipped this little makeshift drop yesterday cause it looked sketchy. Nice to prove you can do it, but if you don't...sucks to not be able to bike next week and play basketball. I must be getting old and wise.

I know what you mean, when I was younger we all rode bikes around the block and little jumps were fun and one day I was like, lets go up to the top of this angles driveway and haul ass towards the swale and jump! Ya, no fun, got like 2-3 feet up and then fell on my ass.

Full face helmet FTW!!

I was happy to have a full face when I rode my dirtbike, I wrecked and flipped over the handlebars, hit my head first...I think...helmet was full of sand.

I was doing like 30mph and this girl that gives on my street ran out in front of me, she was like 5? Maybe? Her dad was holding her and she ran out at the last second, I couldn't do shit. She was okay, just bruises of my tire tread lol.

Wow...yeah, no kidding...it's amazing how fast the accidents happen, man...I guess in some ways, a full face would be smarter to have, but again...expensive and SO hot!

That's why they put vents in them!! But yeah, it's scary how fast it happened. I was watching them as I went by and the just took off out in front. Same way I wrecked the S10, only me on the road and this 90 year old guy pulled out in front of me in his Mercedes.

i totally see J doing this !!!

btw u guys do notice the wheel is directly connected to the pedals right ? in traditional bikes you can keep your foot steady when you are tired of pedaling.....in this you can break your leg trying to do that at a little higher speed !!!

^^^It's funny, I was thinking how the fk would this work...
Actually...depending on the type of hub you have, you COULD have to continue to move your legs (on a single speed at least)...but most are directional.

I don't do jumps. Last time I actually fell off my bike I fucked up my rotator cuff and it's never been the same. not to mention, I never break bones, but I'll shed my skin right the fuck off. You'd think I laid down a motorcycle at 30-40 mph. same with when I would blade, just fall and tear all my skin off. I'd rather a real injury than that shit...feel it burning for days afterwards as you try to heal....

Shark, what kind of giant did you get? I have like a 2004 giant hardtail still. love that motha-effr

^^^that's my thinking too...you prove something to yourself but it's a huge risk...one measly jump and bam, you're out of riding, biking, basketball for MONTHS! Not worth it...and as I get older, I take even longer to heal!

gaskets came in earlier than I expected...makes me feel better to know I'm putting some new gaskets in...assured NO LEAKS!

and I could PROBABLY force this install and make it happen this weekend...I'll probably give this a try tomorrow morning...maybe...following weekend is Busch Gardens and the following some other plans...I've been told this will take a max of 4 to 6 hours...so I have the time if I get cracking about 8am tomorrow.

Ok...as per usual with me...I sat and thought and decided that I'd get started...got everything that I could do without NOT being able to turn the car on with a CEL done...

Jpipe unbolted, all 6 bolts...thanks antiseize!

and, learning from other people's experience, fan out, radiator overflow out, strut bar out...cardboard to protect radiator check!

to be continued tomorrow morning. YAY!

Can't effin wait!
Decided that this weekend, I had about as much to do as I have the weekend after next...Busch Gardens next week...so basically, I should stop being a pusssy and go for it now, or it'll be the same thing for a while.

So, obvi started car with no passenger fan, no overflow res, no strut and my jpipe dangling...holy heck...the car sounded like a POS...fiancee was like, dang, I thought that was a frigging oldsmobile driving by.
Tomorrow morning, will tackle. Next project after this, lightweight crank pulley.

I just remember installing the headers on mine. What a pain in the ass. Most of the bolts were seized and I had to cut the j-pipe get the car driveable. The next morning I had to drive up to the exhaust shop with the open header to have them cut the rest of the j-pipe off at the cat. That was pre-air tools.

My car did go through 5 NY winters before I got it though.

Ok...so I could see why you felt that way then! Well about thirty minutes last night another thirty this morning so far...I didn't have any seized bolts and I expect that the rear sees even less of the elements...

LOL...thanks man...and an even BIGGER Eureka! Just got the rear out...now to clean everything up reinstall.

J.

I can see why nobody EVER puts their stock cats back on!

PS, a few observations...
1) Whoever said you could probably get the cat out of the rear WITH heatshields on. Yeah, ok...eeeeffff youuuuu!
2) Whoever said they got the rear cat out from under...hmmm...doubtful.
3) Once you get the heatshields out, with the brackets and 2 coilpacks removed (and taped off) the cat comes right out. No problems...
4)Don't forget that 14MM bracket from under...I also opted to leave the bottom O2 sensor in place...that last and 3rd clip isn't fun to get to and it's easy enough to pop it back in from down there. Wish I had known that before making the executive decision to brake the 2 upper clips holding the bottom o2 wires...
5) use a combination of 1/4, 3/8 ratchets and sockets and wrenches...rear heat shield...use 10MM box wrenches to get the nuts off. Bottom one closest to jpipe...lower the cat by pulling it off the 4 up top and you can get that last one from there.

Prep work for me:
30 minutes last night, removed 6 nuts from jpipe, removed fan, removed reservoir.
30 minutes this morning, removed front cat
1 hour 20 minutes this morning, removed rear cat.

They key to this job, is comfort and patience. I put a blanket on my engine to lay on it for the last hour and a half. You CAN see most of the job on the rear...just the 2 bottom nuts that need to be felt around for.

I'm SUPER tempted to remove the substrate from the HFPC cat right now since it's loose anyway, but if I did that, I am pretty sure I'll have some rasp...and I don't want that. SO I'm leaving it in...if I took it out and found out right away that I DID have rasp, I'd be super pissed that I took it out...over time, it's going to probably break up and fall away anyway!

Plus, this job would be CAKE on these aftermarket primaries...HFPC or PCD, doesn't matter...the OEM's are a pain because they are fat. I'll be hitting all nuts/bolts with anti-seize anyway.

...and they're in...and for some reason, since I have to multitask, while car was up, figured I might as well wire in my shock sensor too...stay tuned.

J.

No CEL's so far...cold startup sounds aggressive but not much worse than before...haven't driven it yet.
