So hey guys, I'm due for a little CAR related update!

So some new goodies came in today...
After a good recommendation from Maharaj (I believe) and not being totally satisfied with the longevity of protection from Z2...I got this!

Oh...yeah, there's an O2 sensor socket there too...pretty cool. What's that?!? Why would I need that, you're wondering?!?!? Because after reinstalling my jpipe, I made a very short list of performance mods that will help me boost my mpg and give me some desired gains. Weight loss isn't an option for me...to make a big enough difference there are some major parts that I'm not yet willing to lose. And I KNOW that MPG increase is minimal...but guess what, if you free up the engine and some HP...and drive chill...an extra 1mpg here and there makes a difference.

So, my fiancee asks me, what the fk are you adding HP for if you're driving chill? I have an answer...well, ever hear the saying walk quietly but carry a big stick!!??!

Anyway, found a deal on the BM, and jumped on these...PCD's straight up from Richie are NOT an option for me. I will not tolerate rasp and I heard from another member that he had the resonator that Richie recommends to solve the rasp problem and guess what...it didn't. So, that was out.

So here is what I got. And for this, I thought my buddy Anil would be proud of me.
http://www.e-shiftperformance.com/pages.php?pageid=6

Now, the major complaints I've read up on these are 1) the cost...they cost nearly a thousand dollars new. 2) the inside substrate is known to fall apart and out of them.

1) I got them for killer deal. I dare you to ask me how much. Thanks again dan....k.
2) I live in Florida. We have zero emissions testing. I don't even need to substrate so for all practical purposes, I will have a full pass through primary.

Problems, lower 02 sensor on 1 of them will need to be retapped, seems like it's stripped, I can handle that, without a problem. I'll need to see if I can use a drill extension and just drill the "cells" out. They substrate is "loose" in that when you flip these over they fall an inch either way...probably would be FINE just sitting there but I'm thinking of just removing them.

What is everyone's opinion on whether or not having a bored out primary will cause rasp?! I'm thinking I may leave them in and if they break apart, they break apart. They are 200 cell...and the claim is that that they allow over 90% of the flow through without a problem. So, should I remove first while off the car and easy and get the most gains and avoid ever having the substrate breaking apart at all?

And here they are! So yes, these do include the rear and 3rd catalytic converter...which, with the Richie RV6 jpipe, is not needed since it's bypassed. So my plan is to see how I like everything totally free flowing and how it sounds...and if I'm super happy with the jpipe etc...I may just end up selling this 3rd cat to offset some of the cost of my purchase. This 3rd cat is a high flow version of the catalytic but can also be drilled out to be used as a test/race pipe.

Other performance mod on my agenda is the Unorthodox Racing or Ralco (all the name brands have to start somewhere) stock size but lightweight pulley.

That's all, good night.

I love Griot's product too, Jeremy. Can't go wrong with that line. I've tried a lot of stuff, and the Griot's is top notch.

Hmm, I hope that paint sealant works good, let us know I've been wanting to get paint care products as well, keep it nice and clean and rich looking.

Dude JEr....I am very very proud of ya...

and you dont need a drill bit, just a screw driver ....yes do expect some rasp for the precats almost-deletes....but yes you will feel the performance jump up !!!

another thing which does go bad on these procats is the welding....so keep an eye/ear out for that and you should be fine....

and Steven loves Griots Garage stuff....but he pronounces them "Gritos" and i have started calling them "Gritos"

You know, I've been into cars since I was a kid and worked on my friends' mustangs in hs and they'd go up to Moroso...I've never been! EVER! Maybe I will check it out.

Thanks, brother...I try!
Yeah, I read that there were problems with the earlier versions of the PCD etc...but from what I read on these was the substrate issue. About my question though...do you think that the substrate being in there, vs, not having it in there would make a difference in whether or not I introduce rasp?!

^You'll have time. Seriously, unless you have to clay, you should be able to wash, dry, apply, and remove that sealant in under 20 minutes. Lol

So what am I missing? Why did you spend a G on those precats when Richies HFPCs are less then 600?

Maharaj and Sharky...get this sh*t...member name was dan....k. Awesome guy...he sold me those for $100+$45 for shipping. THEN, he refunded me almost $19 for shipping because he promised to charge me only what it actually cost. So i paid $126 bucks for the lot of them.

Is that not the deal of the century, or what?!!

Well, he assured me that he did not have rasp with the loose substrate inside it...which I could see since it they are just loose up and down but still have their integrity. SO, that said, I may just leave em in there, I'm willing to lose 10% of the air flow out to keep the rasp out. Worst case, I can always take off my jpipe down the line and jam a screwdriver or pry bar in there to dig the substrate out and change it to full on PCD. I don't want more rasp!

SO...am I a lucky SOB, or what?!?! If I decide to, I could hollow out the bottom 3rd catalytic and sell that to someone as a race pipe!

Damn. Nice. It's worth trying them for that price for sure. 200 cell is the same as the HFPC right? Should be a nice upgrade.

I'm |---| close to pulling the trigger on the HFPC/v3 package. Other then the CAI and mm delete I've done nothing as far as power/exhaust.

Thanks Fellas, yeah, I got a KILLER KILLER DEAL ON them. So what do you guys think about my decision to leave the substrate in?! Rationale make sense?

Maharaj, go for it, and if I'm not mistaken, you save 100 bucks if you get them in one shot. Honestly, I like aggressive sound and nice exhaust note when downshift etc...but not willing to deal with rasp. So this was the best option for me...the fact that the PCD's add rasp would DEFINITELY push me to go with HFPC's instead.

Morgan, holy fk I miss your old avi.

Lots of love back atcha, man...
what's your real name again!? Sorry, I'm bad at this but you're such a regular that I feel badly calling you UD at this point. Are you referring to the resistor thread response?!?!

Aaron, you fuker!!! I can't remove it and go back! I'll try leaving it in, if I'm happy with the performance and especially the lack of rasp, it'll stay that way, taking off the J pipe and jamming a huge 1" wood chisel bit on my drill in there to break it all up after the fact can always be done down the line. If i take the substrate out ahead of time, and end up with RASP...I'll be pissed, and I'll also wonder if I would have been rasp free if I had left it!

J, i would just take it out tho...you think that little bit of substrate is gonna make a difference in sound? how much is in there? whats the material exactly?

Edit: If there is a difference in sound between HFPCs and PCDs I don't see why this would be any different. Although I see now the substrate is loose. I don't think that'd be an issue though.

damn Jer that is honestly the deal of the century !!!

126 is not bad at all...if you sell it race/test pipe you will get most of your $$$ back !!! NICE !!!

about rasp, with the filler substrate in there you WILL NOT get any rasp....since exhaust pulses will flow better in these than stock cats, you will add some growl to the exhaust tone but this shouldnt introduce any rasp....

if you want more performance out of them, as i mentioned take a screw driver to it and take all the stuff out, you just drive with em on for 3-6 months and as the stuff starts falling out, your work will be done automatically

Substrate almost looks like a high temp corrugated plastic material (obvi no plastic...but looks like the inside of those USPS boxes).

^^^That's my thinking...they say with the substrate in, you get less than 10% loss of flow...if that keeps the waves from making rasp for me...they will stay in! Like Anil said, it's that that causes the rasp, not the actual fact that it's a different pipe.

Dude...that was a KILLER deal! I'll have to retap one of the O2 holes, but I can handle that...anyone know what MM the 02 sensors are?!?! I may try and use the sensor and some anti seize to rethread. I had the same thought, if I just remove the substrate...it'll be a PCD rather than a HFPC...so I'll leave it in...it's only loose on the outside edge...so if you flip it over, you feel it fall an inch down and then back...but sitting on the engine, it'll always be upright anyway. SOOOO...with that said, like you said, either it'll just fall out on it's own...OR, I can take Jpipe off and just break it up while on the car if i ever decide I want to.

But yeah, ZERO rasp wins for me...

Glad I made you proud! I think with this, and the UR pulley, I'll be held over for quite some time. A lot of people claim to have seen some nice MPG increases with this too. The power it claims wouldn't be the same jump for me as the website since I'm already enjoying the gains from the Jpipe that deleted the 3rd catalytic from the equation...but I THINK I'll still see a nice little bump...maybe another 15HP?!

^^^ yes....between the cats and the UR pulley you should see around 12-15HP gain....

+ the UR pulley is weight loss....you on a good start there buddy and you should see a MPG hike....but more just .5 to 1 more....not a 3-4MPG gain....

I was a drunk 13 year old looking for a handle for eBay when I picked this alias. Lol

Hey guise I have the best weight loss and MPG increase EVAR!

Swap out this junky 3.2 and get a 4 cylinder. You'll be makin lyke 40mpg!! Plus it weighs less, lyke, 2 less cylinders. Then you can add a turbo and be doin lyke 350hp.

I want to laugh. But this would be a smart move if you are talking about a track car. (not strip) and don't care about money.
