High flow straws? That's a bit excessive considering how good I've heard you are at sucking.

Y'all ever do the EGR cleaning for the car?!?!
Oh, and I'm so happy...ballparking an additional 670 pounds in the car at lunch and no rubbing. Dropping back the stance a bit was a good move.

EGR cleaning, is very important....

the EGR port gets very very nasty !!!....I used to do it in 2 steps:

1> clean the manifold and EGR pipe in the manifold...
2> clean the EGR port....

but since I have blocked it off, now everything stays nice and shiny

Well, I've cleaned the area inside the intake manifold already...I guess I'm trying to figure out where the EGR is...is it not called the PCV valve?

^^^ NO....

the PCV is positive crank ventilation....these are 2 tubes, 1 for each head...they run from your head to the manifold putting the escaped oil back in the intake path....

EGR is exhaust gas recirculation....this pump some of the exhaust gases back in the intake path....

am finding a pic for you of the EGR port

I remember that EGR from one of the diet guys but never understood it.

EGR is exhaust gas recirculation....this pump some of the exhaust gases back in the intake path....

Why???
and
What happens if you remove it?

It recycles unburnt fuel back into the intake for emissions purposes. Without it, that doesnt happen

I have a bypass on mine. It keeps the ECU happy (no CEL), keeps my manifold clean, and IATs slightly lower.

PERFECT EXPLANATION by our beloved Morgi

Meko, there has been debate on this as the gases which are put back in the intake path (via the manifold) are inert gases and dont affect the temps much and taking it out will result in heavy knock and hence timing retard and hence will affect power negatively....

I keep an eye on the timing and I only see it go down when I reset the ECU and the stupid light comes on....until I turn the car off and turn it back on, the ECU does retard some timing....other than that, NO ISSUES....

J, I've been using gallon size Ziploc baggies for removing the filter. Break it loose with the wrench and slip the bag over the filter, it will all collect in the bag. I would suggest letting the car cool of for quite a while, as that oil is hotter than shit. Don't ask

I just go to Jay Wolfe Acura for my free oil changes....

Meko, timing is spark timing....one of the most important concepts for making more power....

in a 4 stroke engine, you have (duh) 4 strokes to complete 1 cycle...

intake, compression, explosion (which makes power), exhaust...

the ideal spark timing is when the cylinder is in the compression stroke and almost done with the compression of the Air and Fuel Mixture....

so if the mixture is right and the temps are right, ECU will advance the spark and hence the ignition will be at the right time and hence more power....

but say your Intake temps are very high....the mixture might ignite before the spark is actually applied (also called as detonation or knock)....so the ECU will retard (or pull back) spark timing and hence you lose power....on a 100deg plus day, your car is more likely to feel sluggish if you dont have the right cooling mods....and this is because of the ECU pulling timing...

when the ECU sees any of the components not working correctly, it pulls back timing UNTIL it see's no harm can be done to the engine....so when you disconnect the MAF sensor to install the air intake and forget to plug it back, the ECU will see a sensor is not responding, will issue a CEL and a code and pull timing to make sure there is no major detonation which will mess the engine up....

Hope this makes sense
