I think what happened here is that the car was getting out more air than it could take in. That's why after the OEM airbox was taken out, the gains improved tremendously. I guarantee if a CAI was installed prior to the PCDs, they would NOT have lost power.

This was a great test, however. It proved that we need to get air IN first, THEN out. I have a feeling with an aftermarket exhaust he will see ~5whp/tq gain throughout the band, no more. May I suggest unbolting the stock exhaust from the Jpipe and then testing? That'd almost quantify as an exhaust. However, to tune that way may be useless because I'm sure he won't run it like that.

Rodney, any way you could test that same car before/after the butterfly delete? Obviously we know the numbers now (275/244), and could potentially see better numbers with the butterflies deleted. I'd suggest deleting them and lowering VTEC to 4500 and see what happens, then play with it. I really think we could see some solid gains throughout the curve with the butterfy delete and tune.

Great numbers btw. And big thanks to Rodney (and whoever else helped) as always, and Gabriel for supplying the car!

Thanks to everyone for even making this thread possible and swoosh for bugging the hell out of me to start a groupbuy ,and for people allowing us time to get the tunes sorted out we are working on even getting tl types in the shop hopefully by weekend and gather some 6spd types numbers ....Even thou this groupbuy netted us no profit it did let people realize and learn tuning is very important in any car especially with upgrades ....ill get with swoosh and get all knock units that we requested to be ordered to go.out with rest of ecus .........

OEM wideband, currently.

ordered a innovative wideband setup that should be installed in a few weeks.

can you explain what you mean though? sorry...having a hard time understanding.

Rodney,

Are you saying that once the JnR ecu is connected that an ODBII reader can not be used to read AFR from the oem ecu?

good question, and was exactly what i'm starting to think.

the only thing MS3 could not pick up was AFR during our base runs.

we had to use our own scanner to get those values...and if rodney is correct, that explains why it's not possible that i'm running in high 11's...but i am curious as to where i do sit.

can't wait to install the wideband/sensor soon and get some ALL THE TIME readings.

currently, the car seems to drive just fine. takes a bit to start...maybe a couple of cranks (i use a remote start) and every once in a while, a slight surging of RPMs (because i'm sure the AFR mixture is off)...but otherwise, it drives just fine. i don't feel anything out of the ordinary.

New code came up:

P0175-system too rich bank 2
P0175-system too rich bank 1

Still have these ones:

P0138-o2 circuit high voltage bank 1,sensor 2
P0158-o2 circuit high voltage bank 2,sensor 2
These codes read twice each on scanner tool.
P0720-Output speed sensor circuit.

Rodney is getting in touch with me on Thursday to go through tunerstudio and installing new map. Rodney really take joy in what he does. Excellent service.

Go get your car tune, base map is just there as a starting point to get the dyno. I wouldn't even push the car with it yet. You need to pull some timing and fuel.

apologies for the delay.

Here is two videos after PCD's on Stock ECU.
(VR6 V3 J-Pipe+V3 PCD's+TBS+K&N DIB+Stock ECU)

After JnR ECU:

This picture show the best two pulls running w/JnR ECU before open the Intake filter box:
(VR6 V3 J-Pipe+V3 PCD's+TBS+K&N DIB+JnR ECU)

...and with the air box open and JnR ECU final tuning. We start with 257/230. Adding V3 PCD's, JnR ECU and open filter box we finish at 275whp / 244wtq.

These codes come on with MS3 ECU. When I plug back to stock ECU no codes.

I want this ecu to have the "autotune" feature. Would make tuning easier. Version update would be fantastic!

Found a guy on my local car forum that works with MS and Tunerstudio. Need to make friends, and read/learn along the way. Hoping this re ignites my love for my auto TL. The 6spd TSX has really made me lose some interest in it.

lmao...that was only thing that popped in my head with something like this....but then again I like how when you removed the oem airbox it showed the car come alive and gain power with the PCD's.....this only proves how I been saying that a SRI even though not better than CAI it is not worse than oem airbox as some have suggested and been claiming!....either good stuff and keep up the great work!

hey Sharky if you have something similar to my tune then you should be roughly around 12.8ish or so WOT.......also I have those surges once in a while and plan to fix it soon when I get around to it, been lazy and still have not hooked up my laptop to vehicle since downloading tunerstudio!, Also been busy with my new toy ..(yo Rodney had to do it and finally picked one up) EVO and its not a Mitsubishi!!

That's how my TL trapped 105mph lol but turns out something might have been wrong with the equipment at Zmax drag way. Still doesnt explain how I kept edging out an modded HHR that was trapping around 103.5mph...I'm telling you just the jpipe, catback, precats, cai and checkvalve delete this car will move!

Who knows maybe some of the 6mt TLs out there are freaks..anyways i'm sure with the j&r ecu + bolt ons, 105+ trap speeds are very very realistic!

^^^ i think it was the tune....

the tune was so good for the factory cats and mods that it was just insane....coz Rodney did mention he was only able to get ~5WHP from the ECU....the stock map was that good....

now the minute they put on PCD's the ECU went :wtf: and the car lost 2WHP instead of gaining ~20WHP.....

then when Rodney and Doc tuned the car came out shining....

that's reassuring.

i'm 99% sure you and i have the same tune. rodney said he sent me your tune (the updated one)...so maybe i am ok for the time being until i get my gauge and AFR installed.

I'm running at a 13:1 compression ratio and have never actually heard any detonation, even at 93 octane, yet I still run a higher octane fuel to be safe. The knock unit is super sensitive, especially with odd engine vibrations due to aftermarket camshafts. I also experienced sensitivity with my J32A3 @ stock compression with cams, so I know its not strictly my compression....its probably a combo of the two.

Annoying. lol.
