Id' like to help out with some of this code search. I consider myself somewhat savvy when it comes to figuring things out. I'm a Java programmer foremostly so I'm not intimately familiar with HEX searching and bin decompilers.
If anything, I do have a 4.62 silver Canadian DVD that I got with my 08 TL-S if anyone needs me to try anything out with it.

Found this in another thread. Don't know if it means anything or not, but thought I'd post it for you developer/programmer types just in case.

Anyway, I'm exahausted and heading to bed, but if anyone wants to continue, I found the Nag Screen text in the file - hmimanager.dll. It starts around offset 000A8D00. There is a bunch of other text too, so I'm sure something is calling this file for the screen, just haven't figured out what yet.

Although much that is posted here is already known / published elsewhere, it's good to have it all in once place. Typically there is text listed there, but it's just a string. One needs to find where this data is read into or used to be displayed. That should get you close to where the logic is looking for a keypress.
It would be helpful to know what is called in the OS to get screen coordinates, or if it's making a call to a known "click ok" dialogue box in the OS. We would just change the call to a NOP instruction, or a return or JMP as appropriate.

Navigation DVD Drive-Update
In post #711 I asked if anyone had disconnected their DVD drive unit in the trunk to see what effect it had on the rest of the features. I had been led to believe that everything else would work . . . well it turns out that if you disconnect the DVD unit the entire Navi screen goes black and stays black until the drive is hooked up again. So much for that idea.
Here's a to the Acura Techline guy that passed on this little tidbit.

Binx thanks! but I don't think I'll be upgrading the dvd. In regards to buying a hardware solution, 50 bux just to press an OK button is not a fix, that's simply a macro.
Is there a specific file I have hex to falsify the OK button input?
My main question is this, if I take the Navi DVD, and I image it, and reburn it on a DVD-R, our TLs will still recognize it??? Thanks.

I have copied the DVD onto a dual layer DVD-R but it wouldn't run. It seems that, at least on my 4.55 there is some type of copy protection that isn't copied onto the new DVD.
I have not tried imaging the disk though. Give it a try and let us know what happens.

Binx57 sounds, good, I will give it a try... I just need to purchase some dual layer dvds.
I think I can image it... Thanks for the info!

Second, the 4.55 DVD can be copied - I've done it. Just image it. May take a couple burns depending on your burner.

Yes, it can be copied, I imaged it, and it worked fine.
onyx1121, do you know which disassembler for sure? damn, I haven't touched this stuff in years, I guess it's time to remember my college days of machine language, lol.

Someone should put up a "reward" for the first person to crack the "OK" nag -- gotta get these smart guys motivated! Kinda like the X Prize...

TeknoKing, Was there anything special you had to do to make the working copy of the DVD from the ISO image? Can a copy be made with any ISO image copier such as DVD Decrypter onto a dual layer DVD? I was under the impression that you needed a manufacturing DVD burner to recreate a working copy. I am interested in having a backup copy of my current disc to fall back on, as I'm sure a lot of people in this forum are too. Please let us know. Thanks.

I just used MagicIso, DVD43 running in the background, I imaged it, and burnt it on the dual layer, I can't remember whether it was DVD+R or DVD-R... I believe I've used DVD+R.
I do have a plextor dvd burner, where it automatically sets the bits as the original dvd, so it depends on multiple things, but it should work.

I offer $100.00 to the brave soul that can kill my OK nag button, and change my welcome screen on an 08 TL with 4.62 navi disc. I am in North GA if any brave soul can pull it off.

As far as those talking about the "click" solution. Sure, it may work, but its what I would call a kludge; disabling it in software should not be too hard. It's just a matter of being familiar with things and being able to dedicate the time

Once you're in the diagnostic menu just go into "version" and press "load disc" and everything will be back to factory state.

Can the welcome screen be changed on a 08 TL? 4.62 disc
If so, do i follow the instructions for the 4.55 or is there a set of instructions specifically for the 4.62 disc..
I havent seen any instructions specifically for the 4.60.. If there are instructions for the 4.62, can someone please specify the exact page and thread, so I do not have to search through 700,000 pages of content..
thanks for your input in advance..

Where does the Navi Hack(s) stand in 2008?
If you are new to this thread, like me, it seems the original hacks have evolved and it's not quite clear what does what anymore.
The original, by bysin, appears to do 3 things:
- Change the background image.
- Removes the "nag screen" at startup.
- "Change some of the words that pop up".
Questions:
1. What words?
2. If bysin's hack removes the nag screen, why do we need AngryDad's "OK" hack?
3. What's the point of people uploading images if they are not formatted to the required system specs?

Bysin's program allows you to extract and then reinject files into the 3.x BIN files. This allows you to change the background image, enable hidden apps like Trip Computer and A/C Controls, and remove the nag screen with AngryDad's OK hack. (or the others that remove the "AD" text) Bysin's program is not the hacks themselves, just the enabler. As far as the words, I think its the nag screen words. AngryDad's hack doesn't get rid of the text, just the need to tap the OK button. If you want to change the text, you can.
For 4.x BIN files, bysin's program will allow you to change the background only. For now.
In regard to backgrounds, there is a nice thread with bmps and directons on how to make your own that meet specs. Most of the pics uploaded meet the 3.x specs, but not the 4.x specs. You'll need to either save the pic as a 16-bit bmp, or get 8to16.exe to convert the 8-bit bmps.
Good Luck!
