One of my domestic partners told me about an argument he had with his mom. She argued that work is not supposed to be fun and you just gotta deal with it. If you're unhappy with your job then that means that you're ungrateful. He argued that one should find a career/job/means of support that they truly enjoy and is fulfilling. Not 100% of your time will be fun, but it's not supposed to suck all of the time.
Who do you think is right?
Exactly. Figure out what to do next. Explore your interests. But don't quit until you have at least some basic plan and a few months of financial cushion.

I dont have a degree and the oil industry seemed a lot better than customer service.
with this job I have paid off a car and have a years supply of cushion.
Ive been with the company for 5 years and with the state of the oil industry crashing...i guess i am looking for something else.
I dont know what my passions are.
I know I like cars and I like talking.
recently, in the past year or so, i have been looking at problems and trying to figure out a product or something to solve those problems....but its easy to talk about and kick around ideas...

Plus you have to wear a blinged out rolex, wear a bluetooth piece in your ear all day, drive a douchemobile, and tote around a rolling carry-on bag filled with narcotics.

There might be, you just need to identify what it might be and outline the steps to get there.
I'll say this, every job I step into.. once I become the expert.. I get bored to. But if you like you work with, the money is good, realize the grass is probably not all that green elsewhere.
You should let that be an opportunity to do stuff on your down time and see if any of it plays out to fulfill the void, or put you in a new direction.

THAT being said, you gotta not mind what you do. Work to me is work. While it has it's moments when I'd love to introduce people to a slap on their head, it generally is not terrible because I'm being paid a few reasons each paycheque to be here and put in an honest effort.
Work is...work. I'd much rather spend my time with my family and loved ones and fap to RDX images.

Seriously, work would not be called "work" if it was well, not work.
That BS that some people find utter joygasm coming (see what I did there?) about work? To me: Myth. Eventually, at some point, you'll get bored and there are days you want to stick your head in a microwave...Why? Because: People.
Look at all the stupid on the planet...People. So, of course, work is going to blow at times. But, you get paid...a means to an end.

My parents had one rule after I decided to piss out my first 2 years of college and have poor grades that ruled me out of pursuing dentistry and medicine: Whatever the bleep I'm getting into better pay the bills. Cuz, end of day: it's all about the bills.

Justin, at times in ALL our careers (and I'm sure in marriages too), you'll reach a point and wonder WTF...especially when things get a bit more monotonous...
But, unless your incoming option is more stable, secure, and better benefits (i.e. salary and benefits)...so, you're now getting Kate Beckinsale...the grass being greener is just a day-dream. Dropping out of it without certainty and knowing you're FOR SURE in a better set up is risky...and esp. in this economy too.
Anyhoo...just my 2 cents.

Without risk, there is no reward. Like Vlad said, just gotta do your homework on that risk.
Personally, I think Spacecadet should open a dispensary. Do what you love, right?

If you have such freedom, only put what you need to put in at work, not one minute extra.. and figure out what else is out there.
You're only a slave to yourself.
If you find your options limited, you need to focus on expanding those options. It might mean school, but fuck it. You're going to get older anyways (the boat certainly hasn't passed yet).
If your current job is punch-in, punch-out.. use that to get in some night classes at local CC (don't do the commercial school route, total bullshit, and $$$). I don't mean to get a degree just to get a degree and suddenly you have options..
But let's say you want to get into IT.. figure out what education / certifications / experience you need to start / be competitive. Figure out what makes you competitive to get your foot in the door and do it.

Plus, the great thing about going back to school later in life?

No...the faculty advisor flat out told me to not bother. Grades mattered when I was applying...had to have a minimum average and I didn't make that cut.

Justn.. how about Ultrasound tech.. It's highly sought after. You can whore yourself out to subcontract with all these neighborhood clinics. On-call @ $7-8/hr plus $100-150/study, which you can multi-dip since you won't get calls all that frequently. You can degree in it, but you can also just do a few in-class training sessions, with some supporting classes to get in it.
Specialize in internal, vascular, transvaj..
It's an honest living.. plus you can get your own setup and do health screenings on your own, net $10k (150/pp @ 50-100 people) a weekend. Or after getting good experience and certs, work for hospital, steady job with steady hours.. make solid salary w/ benefits.
Or just be male nurse.. insert into rectum.

But, per your comment there, you're pretty much in agreement with me: He's gotta do his homework and be sure of what he's getting himself into. Quitting because of being bored or whatever personal sentiment without an actual parachute or something to fall back on that is at least comparable is tremendously risky and in some scenarios, very irresponsible (financially)...
Mind you, I believe Justin is single and so, his financial risk is generally low. But, this is when he CAN make the most too...very little expenses. So, if there's a job there, build up on his capital and $$$ versus throwing it away.

In Canada? Because that's absolutely not true. You need to be competitive for certain programs, but I know of a couple of hosers who barely grad with C averages, and still got into med school.

And those doctors you claim who got in with Cs, aren't doctors. They just service your prostate.
Sorry, but the bullshit meter is going off the charts. That would never happen in canada. Minimum to get in (if you're a young student with no real life experience) is 3.5 GPA. Likely need a 3.7+ to get in.
If you're older, blah blah, they drop it to 3.2.
