I took a grad comm course with an esteemed / distinguished professor back in the day. He's an old codger, but sharp as a nail. When he was doing his PhD, he had an office next to some of the guys whose equations and algorithms that became the core material in our books.

He taught for free having sold his company for over 200 million several years back. He was also a venture capitalist on several boards. He talked in detail about what it takes to be successful. I took it all to heart, but I haven't pressed it. One day I'll be Audi 5000.. fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out.

One of his lectures, he discussed innovation. I asked him, aren't all the greatest innovations created already? He said absolutely not. At any given time, that could be a consensus, but we continue to innovate and do great things. Brainstorm, get those around you to do the same. You never know where the next great idea may come from. It's pretty interesting to read how certain ideas / concepts came about. Mostly organic.

1) The market is there. The cars are getting cheaper. Average owner age is decreasing. They want cheap cool mods. Market is definitely not shrinking.

2) Designing these products costs almost nothing and takes very little time. Once I have the design, fabrication/kitting is effortless. It becomes a question of inventory management only - almost totally passive income.

3) Will target other markets too - just need to leverage connections (already connected to Focus, 3K/S, and Civic). It's also provides a channel to perform motorcycle restoration/customizing. Have already been contacted for custom builds and I literally haven't marketed anything. It's just from my Facebook posts.

It sounds like you don't really know what I'm talking about doing because a lot of what you said there is either wrong or doesn't apply whatsoever. China isn't going to steal my shit because it isn't mass market. Reverse engineering my shit won't pay dividends. Patents are completely unnecessary and wouldn't even pay for themselves if I filed. The TL has been out for 12 years. And the scope of Bruce's business is completely different than mine. To me, this is a fun weekend project. It's not my livelihood. I have big ideas. This isn't one of them. Instead of discouraging people with irrelevance, you should try challenge their plans with your specific concerns to help them be successful by considering potentially unintended consequences and mitigating risks. Otherwise you're just being a dick.

I'm curious to know what you have in mind... cars like the civic have had aftermarket support for anything and everything over the last 20 years... there isn't much that has been left untouched, so this must be something cool. Literally, there almost isn't a single part on those cars that you can't get aftermarket pieces for. It's bananas.

Without knowing what you have in mind, it's hard to understand what kind of market you're targeting, etc. I can only assume. And the patent was more of a joke. I really didn't think you'd spend 10k (or is it more now?) for a patent unless it was something huge.

I hope you don't get discourage that easily. Those who succeed are the ones who didn't let the negative voices get to them. If you believe in your idea, run with it and never look back!
