Don't get me wrong- I'm sure the RLX, especially in SH form, is a wonderful car in many aspects. But it bombs on many others. You could slap a lawnmower engine on a wheel barrow and someone would buy it and praise it. These guys are the 0.000000001% who adore this thing.

Misery loves company...

I'm sure the car isn't ALL TOO bad.. but the guys on that subforum are just total pretentious dbags that don't make it very easy to sympathize with them..

I mean... when you feel for the guys buying overpriced civics (read: ILX) than the guys buying RLXs...there's something wrong..

Maybe It's a Gen Y thing hating on the baby boomers that ruined our future... or maybe I'm just going in too deep

Some of the guys are decent. I don't think the car is terrible, but it doesn't cater to much of the population when you consider the other brand offerings.

Other guys on the RLX are totally denying anything is wrong with the RLX ever, but there's the same kind of people for the 3G TL too...

It's just a different mindset with the 1%'ers that are dropping upwards of $70k on a car. Most people that that much invested (pun sort of intended) in a car, *really* go out of their way to ignore anything negative and hype the positive. It's fundamental human psyche...

And then the goon squad of poors with with their plebeian TLs and TSXs and, gods forbid, ILXs show up and start lobbing turds into their punch bowls.

The damn things could literally fall apart into a pile of rust in their driveways after a mild rain and they wouldn't admit it was a fault, just that the poors and the auto journos can't understand why it's the most luxurious pile of rust and that Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes couldn't get their pile of rust so meticulously groomed if they tried.

"What advantages does this motor car have over say... a train. Which I could also afford?"

You just don't understand until you're a "tres comas".

If i was dropping 70 large on a new car, I'd likely test drive the rlx. But there are many other cars I'd be testing also and I could not forsee myself buying the rlx. The sport hybrid is pretty much out of question. What are the projected production numbers for 2016? 400? Yeah, probably not happening. There might be one coming to my city and the likelihood of being able to get it the way I want (color) is likely slim to none. I'm not spending 70k to get my second or third choice in color options.

honestly, if i was in the market for such a car, I'd bump up my budget and take a look at a Tesla. I could likely even get a used one and get it for the price of a new sport hybrid.

Sensible post is sensible.

On top of all that, I personally think the RLX was very poorly marketed. Acura had something to prove with this car (whether it did or didn't is a different story) and they should've at least acted like it.

Eh, I don't know about that. My though is that they don't market it because they're not trying to *sell* it.

No one is being *sold* a RLX. They're *buying* them. It's a pull process, not a push process. Trying not to be snarky, but you're either a RLX buyer or you're not. It doesn't make sense for HondAcura to advertise it then. Much like the Toyota LandCruiser, Nissan GTR, Lexus LFA etc.; there's no need to advertise a flagship... The people who are buying them don't need an advert because they're buying it anyway, and the people who would be seeing the adverts aren't in that market. So why bother? Sure, maybe you kick out one or two ads just as a "look what we can do" brag, but don't spend real money trying to reach new markets.

Save the advertising dollars for the volume market- ILX & SUVs.

But what do I know. If I were to spend $70k on a car, I'd buy two cars.

Not sure about a Tesla in the snow.

Either way, many other viable options in that range depending if you want a bit more sportiness or stay classy. The RLX is starting at $50K for the "base" model.
Mercedes C class, Infiniti Q50/60/70, Lexus ES/GS line up, Audi S4/A5/A6, BMW 5 Series and even the Caddy CTS, Chrysler 300 and Hyundai Genesis come to mind.

I definitely get that part and I agree with you - however Acura doesn't have the brand cache to really do that, especially in that price range. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people shopping in that price range don't even know what an RLX is or still believe an Acura sedan is a Honda in a Men's Wearhouse suit. I just don't see Acura shaking that image based on what it's currently doing. They don't need to throw a commercial in your face every 2 mins but at least figure out how to generate interest and steal a few sales from the RLX's competition.

Also I'd think that most people know what LandCruisers, GTRs, and even LFAs are. Those cars all have either history or a ton of fanfare behind them where the RLX just doesn't.

Unrelated note (cool story bro):

Anil is really a nice guy. I've rarely met people as helpful and cool as him and I really hope we cross roads at some point IRL so I can offer him a meal (and he can't refuse it!).
He helped me so much with my maintenance parts you'd think he was doing it for a living but it was all volunteering. Not much else to say, just had to put him in the spotlight, even though I'm sure it's not the first time for him.

Thanks again buddy!

Uh huh.

I have no qualms about taking the homo erotic heat. () Anil still deserves praise.

Would you drive your Porsche 911 in winter? I wouldn't. It's probably just a "mindset" issue from my part though. I ain't driving a Tesla and I'm not close to driving one either so I likely value it more than someone who can afford it.

Tesla is fine in the snow from what I've seen and read. Plenty of Teslas are winter driven in my area as well

To this day, the mod team still marvels at the sordid story with BoostedJack...You catch the part where he was impersonating as a girl who was as moderator for a short-time?

If i actually bought it, then yes. But lord knows that would never happen.

At the end of the day it's the money that's spent that counts, not what you actually bought. 70k I'd still 70k by the end of the day
