Fuhhhh...
I'm sorry, Gary. That's brutal.

You need a place to vent or share without consequence, you already know this is your place!

My condolences

You seem to have quite the month ahead.

Also, I managed to get my fenders rolled. Had to drive 100 km for it, but got one hell of a deal, and it was done real well. Got them ever so slightly pulled, and we're in business for Tuesday when everything goes on the car. Can't wait.

On another unrelated note that needs splitting from my previous post, I acquired XXR/PDW/whatever cheap wheels 551 with the tires for $800 today. Flat black, rashed on the lips (can't parallel park) but got masked decently by the shop who installed them so it doesn't pop out too much, nuts included but he had 19 (good job losing one) so I'm just gonna buy new ones, 2 hub rings but also gonna buy new ones anyway, so that's that. Can't really beat the price so I'm pleased.
Tires are rated at 280 thread wear (expected from cheap tires) and they're 225/40/18 92Y UHP but knowing how I put 9500 miles yearly they should last me 2 summers. Still have to see how they feel though so they might be going off anyway.

Oh and staggered, 18x8.5 35mm front, 18x9 35mm rear. Not sure I like this, since they're concave wheels the rear is slightly more in and that bugs me...

Rear being more concave is sexy, man...
Congrats!

Oh, and lower treadware generally means softer, more grippy compound...a lot of times it's actually the higher end wheels that have a low tread rating.

It bothers me while not on the car but I'm sure once it's on I won't notice it as much.

Lower threadwear also means it's gonna get raped quickly though. It's a good thing my mileage per year is low. That said I was amazed at how crappy his pictures on his ad made his wheels look. I was ready to lowball him $750 and even under but upon seeing them I didn't fuck around too much. Gave him $800 and as we are loading the wheels in my car I tell him with better pictures he would have sold them $900+. He paid over $1400 just last year. Ain't complaining.

I'm scared I'm gonna catch the upgrade bug though, just because I like fiddling with everything, if you know what I mean.

Well, my uncle got injured at work and fucked up his hand/forearm tendons. He's on light work only.

Guess I'll find somebody else to put these wheels on. I could do it myself but I want to see if they're properly balanced and at that point might just get them installed.

Edit: And his shoulder apparently too. wtfff

Get someone to put the wheels on for you?
Wuss

Yeah, I know you'll wear quicker, but better performance!

On my work wheels...I had a 10MM difference too...so unnoticeable that I would use spacers and rotate

Sorry about your uncle, man. Hope he gets better fast.

Hahaha I've always changed my wheels before, but I want to make sure these babies are balanced properly and like I said at that point I might as well get them installed for a few pennies.

I hope he gets better too. It sucks for my wheels install but it sucks twice as much for his arm. He's gonna do physiotherapy 5 times a week. :|

Do you US guys get Easter holidays? I get today and Monday off, because government (and I'm not even religious. Score!). Also had yesterday off because I get an extra day off every 3 weeks.

I'm looking to switch departments, so if the move goes through, I'll get an extra day off every 2 weeks instead of every 3. That's an extra 26 days off a year!!

We don't get an Easter holiday.

We get random shit, like Cesar Chavez day off and one of those president's birthday's. Oh and the day after Thanksgiving, but not the day after X-mas.... Then we have a couple other holidays.

But I always take the day after X-mas off, shit I take 2 weeks off for X-mas, every year.

While lower tread wear ratings do generally mean the tires will wear faster, like RS said, your handling capabilities will increase. The problem with those tire ratings is that there is no set guideline for coming up with those numbers. Tire companies even sometimes change the numbers without even changing the tire compound

That being said, two tires with the same rating can likely wear differently. It's complete bullshit, lol. However, PB, if you're not pushing your tires hard, you'll still get good life out of them. My summer tires have a rating of 200. Oddly enough, they used to have a rating of 180, but Bridgestone changed it because of something related to which tires could be used in which class of driving when it came to the track. I can assure you, nothing has changed with the tire itself.

As long as you don't mash the throttle or go nuts into a corner, you can make a low tread wear rated tire last a fairly long time. If it's a summer tire, don't push it below 7C. You can still mildly push them up until about 1 or 2 degrees, but just be aware that your grip has gone down a good amount around those temps.

I'm seriously surprised Americans don't get an Easter holiday. So many catholic/Christian/whatever-other-denomination-of-said-religion followers in the US, you'd think it would be a standard day off.
