That is terrible advice. Do not stay with someone for another ten years to find out nothing will change. Bad Jeremy! 
They say people end up marrying someone they're 80% compatible with. And their eyes start wandering because they're looking for someone who can fill that remaining 20%. In the end, if they go that route, they end up finding that the new person may have filled that 20% gap the previous person had, but the new person will likely never surpass the total 80% compatibility.
If that's true, you gotta find what the 80% you really want and the 20% you can live without. No kids, no French and a big ass seem to all fall under the 80% you're not willing to budge on, so in the end it's a bad fit.

Wanting/not wanting kids is a big ticket item. I wouldn't wait around hoping I'd change or that my SO would change in that regard.
And you're right, don't go looking for 100%, because it doesn't exist. But find the 80% that makes you happy.

I don't feel very regretful. I feel bad for ending a relationship where a lot of things were correct, just some that weren't. It wasn't a completely fucked up relationship, that would have gave me more strength to end it.
I'm bilingual, it's not an issue for me to speak English with her 24/7. It's an issue that she doesn't speak French because almost no one in my family speaks English but my father. She doesn't get to connect with anyone because of that. She says it's also because no one really speaks to her, but then even if she understands French if we talk slowly to her she can't answer back.
My family is extremely important to me. If my girlfriend can't be part of my family... well then it won't work.
After Christmas 2013 I asked her one thing, and I never ask of anything. For her to have a conversation at Christmas 2014 with my family, not a complicated one, just "a conversation". It didn't happen, I got deceived. She had many tools ready for her, I was ready to pay for her language school, I got her Rosetta Stone, I got her Pimsleur stuff. She was working in an all girl summer camp where she had a lot of spare time. She barely did any Rosetta.
I told her I have no issue staying in contact, being friends. We were friends for 8 years before dating. I saw her go through 2 relationships.
Polo...it only helps to hate her now. You don't have to...remember, she's not a bad person. Just a bad fit for YOU.
Or not...we all make compromises to make a long term relationship work out. If there's more good than bad, and you're being subjective on how you judge which is which...and honest with yourself on what you can change about yourself...it CAN work. Just have to be sure you want it to. Maybe she doesn't want kids now...maybe she will if you 2 were more serious and you spoke more English and 3 years from now...who you are at 25 isn't who you'll be at 30 or 35. We change a lot...

I think sadly this relationship had slightly more bad than good. We talked a lot yesterday, and I brought up my few points, she expected for me to break up with her one day because of kids. I asked her if she really, honestly thought she'd have kids one day. She said she didn't know. She doesn't see herself with kids. She's not really good with them, she does not particularly like them, and she doesn't want kids to end up with her "mental issues" (anxiety / bipolar). She also doesn't really enjoy the thought of physically having a baby (and I'm talking about the pregnancy as a whole, not just the giving birth). She doesn't think she'll ever be in a financial situation she would consider proper to raise kids... So even adoption would be far fetched, putting aside the other issues.

Right as I came in, 2 people were waiting for me because 2 people are sick so I have to save the day. One taps me on the shoulder and says "Good thing you're here, you got a lot of work to do!"
Another person comes right behind me and says "polo! You're a quitter!". Turns out they had a dream I was quitting the job and leaving them with all my work.
I say fuck coincidences.
