Who do I call gay as an insult? If by insult, you mean joking around, then yes. I follow suit by doing the same with myself. As by insulting, and saying "you're a f***** f**", that's definitely not me. Sorry Marge.
Marge acts like an internet tough guy, but in reality, cowards behind his computer screen and rarely, if ever, posts anything about himself, his car(s), or pics of either.

Pfffpffpfff suuuuure. I'll crush with my man-love.
Not sure about Taco, but I can say I have a lot of years of brawling behind the belt as well as around 7 years of shotokan karate. I have stopped following a sensei a while ago due to work schedules but have since picked up weight lifting and gained around 40 pounds of muscle mass while reducing my fat to 19%.
I'll let Bruce Buffer introduce me, can't wait to grapple Taco.

Johnny Depp is definitely a great actor! Dicaprio too.. I love "Catch Me If You Can". And, of course Titanic is epic.

Polo, I'm a big fucking giant, and that's pretty much where it ends. Last time I was in a "brawl" was in grade 5, and I'm pretty sure not a single punch was thrown from either party I'm a lover not a fighter... Mostly because I know I would end up twisted into a pretzel in no time. I've put 25 pounds on myself in the last 18 months... But I can assure you, not a single one of them is muscle
Uh, no, wait, let me start this again:
Pffff, Polo, you're lucky there's 3.5 provinces between us, holding me back! Otherwise I'd destroy you in no time!

You don't give out belts like candy. Shotokan karate is a traditional karate, unlike a sports karate which is axed towards HAVING THE BELTZ and showing off, it is technical and discipline oriented. The only belt which gets given to you almost straight away is the yellow one, and I believe that's simply to signify your basic progress. I've never failed a belt exam although I had to postpone one due to having a head cold.
For what it's worth, the belt never mattered to me, nor should it matter to anyone. I got ass whoopings from belts lower than me and whooped the ass of black belts many times. The higher katas you get to learn and practice in anticipation of getting father anyway, so nothing is technically holding you back but your will to practice.

I rarely initiated fights and I'd rather walk away then have a shitty time. Nothing worse than hitting a bar/pub/club/whatever with friends, getting into a fight and ending the night there because everybody feels weird about what happened or because your nose is broken.

bruh.. in a traditional martial art where there are basics that you master and katas.. it's foolish to string along students. Sure some arts take years to master and it's not about the belt in the journey of things, but for those who want to master the art and share it with others, it is a part of the journey.
Some martial arts genuinely take time to master. A lot of BJJ guys don't earn their BB for 10-15 years because it takes that long to master it. There's a lot to learn. Some guys do it in 4-5 years because they are quick learners and have proven themselves in competition.
If you're beating the top students in your school and are a dedicated student who masters the katas, there's not reason for your sensei to hold you back imo.

And by master, I mean proficiency to teach the basics.. of course being a BB means you're in deep waters. Always more to learn / master.
Also.. somewhere out there, there's a BB by the name of Bates.

That said, at a certain point to get your belts you need to be supervised by sensei Yutaka Katsumata who's a bit all over the place and often in Japan so it does somewhat make the times where you can pass your grade limited. It's about being ready and him being in town, unless you feel like flying to Tokyo.
That stage (~brown belt) is also where you can see a lot of people failing in combat. They might be good at katas but you can read their movements, they're telegraphed to you. You see them squeeze their fist an instant and you know what's coming next. Starts being more a game of patiently waiting for someone to make a mistake rather than being faster/stronger/more technical than them.

Made myself some ribs. MmmmMMM!

Wifey made slow cooker philly cheese steak sandwiches so good
Team Owner
Nice... How did you cook them?
Best ribs I generally have are made in the slow cooker. So easy to make and after 8-10 hours the meat just melts off the bone... You can barely pull the rack out without it falling apart

Oh and those sandwiches sound good too. I'm a carnivore.

Oven, 400F around 16 minutes, flip once. Marinated in home made BBQ sauce. They always turn out good and tender enough (can be eaten with just a fork) but I agree with you slow cooker is the way to go for even more tender. I just didn't have time to drop them in the slow cooker this morning.

And yes, the sandwiches turned out so good. The only bad thing about a slow cooker is having the foresight to plan a meal a day in advance. I generally fail at that, lol.

That's pretty much the issue. I cook my lunch in the morning and my dinner when I get home from the gym. When I plan ahead normally it's for ribs (or the girlfriend plans ahead when she's here), this time I did but I was somehow caught a bit short this morning for some obscure reason so I just opted to put them in the oven.

Speaking of ribs, what's there to see and eat in Austin and San Antonio?
Planning on going there with family to attend a wedding and visit my cousin and her kids.

PB, that's what's wrong with many traditional martial arts.. focus on perfection not progression. 2 degrees.. ffs. And some GM from Japan has to watch you test.. talk about micromanagement.

Looks good. Any ribs is good ribs though. Except maybe tough ribs.
I imagine that could be a point. Traditional martial arts do have a lot of emphasis on perfection rather than progression. It suits me well enough being a perfectionist, but I can see some people getting bored of that mentality quickly. I must have thrown a hundred thousand of straight punches (choku zuki) in front stance (zenkutsu dachi) position and yet to have it perfect. My sensei or myself would always find something to improve.
That said, any martial arts is good fun. I always suggest to people they take up any martial art if at least for the self control it brings as well as the knowledge of your own capacities you end up discovering. I've been wanting to take classes of something more grappling oriented such as brazilian jiu-jitsu or something more applicable to real world situations like krav maga but I'd need to make some space in my time to be able to do that. Maybe one day.
Do you practice any martial art?

Repetition is very important, you can do it a thousand times, still wouldn't be enough. You can always improve but it should be meaningful. Minor bullshit is just bullshit. 2 degrees isn't going to keep you from getting your ass kicked. Shotokan focuses on timing and position. Really minimal stand up but it's effective when applied properly (e.g. Machida). If you think your base is good, you should try judo or bjj to round out your game. Aikido and hapkido are also good but you will focus on joint manipulation and redirection which is very good but the application in real world fighting is only at the lowest or highest level (either the guy you apply it to doesn't know shit or you're the best at it and can apply it to anyone). Krav maga is for seminars imo, (kick him in the balls, kick him in the knee, poke his eye, jab his throat, don't get stabbed). You can also try some mixed style martial arts like gongkwon yusul or sambo.. both excellent choices if you want a bit of BJJ / Judo and striking.
I practice several martial arts.
