alright.... updates.

so we're stuck right now with the cam sensor pickup crap with the haltech, they aren't being very helpful in getting us past this point, so for now, we're going to run an FIC for the time being until we can get this issue ironed out. hopefully i'll have my car back in few days. i'm tired of driving this auto kia. ready for some 6 speed action

Hope everything works out properly. Im still waiting for them to make it available for the 6MTs. If they dont, I see a sensor and harness swap in my future.

damn.

well back on topic. yes plugged the ems in and it started up after a few cranks. and I was pleased to see the Tachometer still works too. Speedo hasn't worked since the swap. (about that, whet connection do I need to connect to the transmission to get the speed sensors reading? Nothing is connected to the transmission right now.)

Our main concern now before we start real actual tuning is the smoke

what harness are you using again lol, if the automatic, you need the speed sensors connectors already on the harness, and you just have to extend the countershaft one's (it might be the main i can't remember; it has to be extended from the back of the tranny to the front instead) wiring, so it can reach the sensor itself

and in reality you don't even have to connect those either, cause you should be able to ignore them with the ems anyways for the time being, but basically with the stock ecu, you won't get a speed sensor signal which means no speedo (i know it is not that important lol), and it throws a light for tranny codes, which then limits the rpm's to roughly 5k

as far as the reverse light switch, yeah i still need to get that hooked up, so i can have reverse lights again

then for that reverse lockout switch, i would get that hooked up before you ever plan on attempting to go into 5th or 6th; 5th does not do any damage, you just shift it too far, and it won't go into gear (aka not able to do it fast); then 6th i never actually used cause i did not want to accidentally throw it into reverse instead

you mean the smoke coming from under the hood

if so, it is more then likely the grease and oils (or penetrate spray) from your hands and such burning off from the exhaust manifolds and such
it does seem like a little much, but still not that bad though, and getting the engine warm a couple of times, will eventually burn off all that shit

you didn't see the smoke coming out of the tails? the smoke coming under the hood is coming out of the O2 sensor ports because they are open at the moment.

I can't see shit.

What color is the smoke?

You could be running rich, burning oil, or coolant. But I dont see any smoke in the video.

You got an oil restrictor for the oil feed line??? I'm almost 100% sure that if you don't the oil going though the turbo is too much pressure for that turbo and is burning it up..

just got an update from the tuner. he got it to start better, got the wideband and engine temp all worked out, but it's having ignition issues and won't rev past 5k rpm, losing its sync, and having timing errors in the AEM.

I don't think the EMS has a limp mode?

any ideas?

should I have him post on j32a?

Ooof. That is a beater.

BTW, AEM is still working on the software, so they may not have an answer yet on much of anything. They should have the software finalized later this month.

I dont know much else. I was at Pauls Friday and got to talking with him about that. Hes been playing with the program and showed me some of it (holy fawk is there alot that you can fuck up if you dont know what youre doing ). He mentioned getting trained for it and called up EFI University while I was there. They said they are going to have classes start in January in Cali and a few weeks later in Georgia and New York. The reason for the delay was that AEM keeps tweaking the software.

Ive seen a few swapped cars running the ECUs and they seem to work well. Id love to get my hands on one and finally get a tune. Im in desperate need of one but I dont want to use a F/IC.
