Finally my CTS-V vs. RL thread

https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/some-thoughts-my-cts-v-after-two-months-vs-my-rl-vid-added-729097/

Go to the linked thread. I mostly compared CTS features to the RL rather than doing a description how much faster the V is....
Before the comments about GM's bankruptcy...I would have bought this car even without the financial crisis.

CLIFF'S :

I love this car and GM rocks for making it
Interior not quite up to RL standard but who cares, I've got 556 hp!, and it's still an excellent effort by GM. Besides, the base CTS is a TL competitor, so I don't expect the near perfect RL interior
Like the navi, though I'm still becoming used to the interface so my opinion is incomplete
Manual mode is awesome
Did I say, I love this car? And that GM rocks for making it?
Please, Acura, make one like this, pretty please? I mean, you make RACE CARS for goodness' sake....

Cadillac will stick around. If any GM impresses me, you are driving it. I would own a CTS-V over a Vette....*ducking for cover*.

The cousin Firehawk (G8 / Holden) may be a loss to the US market. And with Pontiac going to the glue factory, they are selling with bargaining. The Firehawk does not, however, have the refinement and class of the CTS-V.
I compare them only due to the sedan structure with the fire of a Corvette within.

I work with an attorney I have nicknamed 'CTS-V'. He is buffed and brute but wears the finest tailored suits, expensive silk neckties and enjoys the attention he draws.

Great Car, Crappy Company, I do not anticipate ever buying a product from the General again with the Govt's. treatment of rquity bond holders. The UAW & Obamma motors will be a big cash hole for the American people.

Good reading! So if you take away the 556 hp / 551 pound-feet of torque , 0-60 launch of 4.2 sec & sportscar like handling. The RL win hands down?

Thanks for the comments. The V represents the best of the old, dying GM. If it hadn't been for the mismanagement and the current financial crisis, GM would have had a chance. Tampa, you're right, Caddy isn't going anywhere...even if GM ends up in Chapter 7, someone will buy Cadillac as it's a money-maker.

My next car will almost certainly be another Acura, probably the 3G RL, as I am not sure I am interested in what "Government Motors" will be offering. Of course, this requires that Acura not screw up the styling and makes an appropriate drivetrain. Now that I've tried V8/FR, I'd be happy to go back to SH-AWD eventually but am hopeful that Acura will be willing to try at least V6/FR with the RL.

Bob, what is the driver's leg and headroom room in the V compared to the RL? I can't drive a Vette at 6'5" with the seat all the way back.

My rebuttal:
C'mon man 556 hp! Let's see a Japanese maker top that!

Seriously, it's too soon for me to comment on reliability, so we'll see what happens with this car. This is the second model year for the 2G CTS (though first for the V2), so we'll see if the interior quirks have been worked out.

I am 5'10" with very long legs. When I push the seat back all the way, I can barely reach the pedals. I think you'll fit just fine. I have a moonroof, so with the seat slightly elevated, there is still room above my head. I haven't measured the precise amount. The space between the steering wheel and my right leg can be a little tight if the seat is too high, so I have to balance carefully. If you are worried about headroom, the car is available with moonroof.

Bob looks like this?

Of course everyone's fit is unique. I am 6'3'' with a 34'' inseam. I found the CTS-V 'snug' and the steering wheel did touch my thigh when I found the optimum seating position. But it was not due to legroom or headroom as front seat occupants have virtually identical dimensions. It was the positioning of the wheel and height of the cowl. It was lower than the RL so the wheel makes contact with my thighs when positioned were I like. But I find that on many cars, even with tilt / telescoping wheels. Even the reason I sold my S2000.

Interior Dimensions
RL Sedan CTS V
Standard Seating 5 5
Optional Seating No data No data
Front Headroom (in.) 38.50 38.80
Rear Headroom (in.) 37.20 37.20
Front Legroom (in.) 42.40 42.40
Rear Legroom (in.) 36.30 35.90
Front Shoulder Room (in.) 58.50 56.70
Rear Shoulder Room (in.) 56.10 54.70
Front Hip Room (in.) 55.10 55.10
Rear Hip Room (in.) 54.00 54.10

LOL at that pic!

You are right about the steering wheel position, now that I think about it. In the RL, I never even considered that the steering wheel position was relatively high, it was just right. In the V, it is low enough that I do notice, as I noted above. It's even lower than in the S2000, though I'll have to check on that when I get back into town next week (I'm out of town on vacation right now).

My Motor Trend just arrived.

The cover is Cadillac CTS-V beats BMW's M5.

I usually pay no attention to these comparos as far as one wins over the other (as the authors tend not to share my driving values)....but that is a big kudo for the Bobmobile. I do know the interior of the CTS-V is much more appealing to me than the Bimmer. But still it is no RL interior.

OK, off to the 'library' with Motor Trend....

I loved that the CTS V is better than the BMW, but the GTR is godzilla in Japan.
