Not the best first thread. Bent a rod in '07 TL-S

Found the perfect car after a 3-4 month hunt at the end of last year. Found a very well maintained low mile 6speed type S. car currently has 83k miles on it.

Sunday afternoon I went through a low water bridge with about 5" of water. My airfilter down in the front bumper of the car took a drink killed it immediately. Hoping for the best, I stayed positive. My fears were realized yesterday after I drained down the whole motor, flushed it lightly with new oil, then changed the oil and plugs. Shot all the water of of the cylinders and put it back together. Fingers crossed....start up..... Knock knock knock knock.... Well F*#k!!!!

So now I am doing research on rebuilding/replacing my short block. Any tips or tricks with the heads or engine removal that I should be aware of? I can't find any engine build threads specifically.

I just recently bought a used J32 for $650. 100k miles...but who cares.
I paid a mechanic $650 + fluids to install.

Thanks for the link. I will check it out. I'll do the work myself, but want a low mile shortblock. I've found a 73k mile shortblock for $900 that is the winner so far.

You got it. Was on the car when I purchased it. It also came with the stock one. I'll be going back to stock when it goes back together. This one cost me a motor

Well I started diagnosing a little bit ago. I'm not convinced its a rod. I don't want to get too excited, but I'm praying its something else. When the car is running (aside from the noise, runs perfect, no lights, smooth etc )

I pulled the connector from each coil killing the spark. It did not change the sound of the "knock" at all. Not even quieted down. This is giving me some hope it's not a rod. Next up is a compression test....
