Transmission Filter
Transmission Filter
The owners manual talks about changing the transmission fluid, but doesn't say anything about the filter. I looked on the parts site of Barndi Acura and the detail drawing doesn't show a filter that I could find. Looks like the transmission has a drain plug at the bottom and a fill plug at the top.
Anybody know about the filter?
Anybody know about the filter?
Older Legends that I have experience with does not have a filter, but rather a screen. I have no idea about this car. And in the Legends, the transmission was always a weak point in my experience. By 100K miles, the 1-2 shift starts to get progressively rougher and no amount of trans fluid changes could fix it, although it would certainly help it shift better.
I am noticing a slight delay when putting in drive. I get about a 2 second delay and then it engages. Fluid level seems to be good. Car has 60k miles (I have only put about 800 on it) so I am not sure what is normal. Thinking of draining all fluid out instead of just 3 qts. Do you think that would fix it?
Thanks

Absolutely do it. When you get a used car, it is a good practice to change all the fluids so YOU know when it was last done, unless you have reliable service records. That way you at least have a baseline. 2 second delay is not normal, and I am betting new fluid will fix it up. Use only Honda ATF. May be cheaper at a Honda dealer than an Acura dealer. Don't forget the drainplug washer if you do it yourself. Look at your owner's manual for other fluids, like rear diff, which also uses ATF Z1.
I would also change the brake fluid.
Type 2 coolant and PS fluid you can probably wait until the 105K mile service.
