From what I have read Transstar makes the best torque converter. I called them & they need a code from the existing one.

My transmission is a BGFA 9001021. Anyone know what the TC code is?

TCs don't seem to be too much of a problem, what I have been seeing is pumps and f'd valve bodys from clutch material and lack of changing the fluid and filter.

So you would not replace one with at least 100k & possibly 180k?

I'd hate to have it fail anytime under 100k from now.

TCs are pretty reliable for us, it's the other stuff that isn't, the best thing you can do is replace the fluid and filter regularly as well as lift when the tranny is shifting when driving hard.

The fluid that is currently in there (put in when the rear main seal was done by a transmission shop a year ago, that started leaking again six months ago) supposedly has "Honda" additive.

As I am not a mechanic I figured I should ask.

I ordered the rear main seal & retainer this time in hopes of avoiding another short lived fix.

I'll just use the Amsoil.

few 3rd gen tl ppl are running fluid with non of that friction shit. shifts harder but when it shifts softly it is actually slipping causing more wear. if i was gonna drive i car had id rather have a hard shift than smooth soft shift but slipping

lol NVA has done alot of quality work on my car in the last few months. its hard now days to find an honest person to work on your car and not try to take advantage of you. NVA has gone above and beyond for my car when he really didnt have too.

I was an apprentice about 7 years ago and decided to go to school instead of be a mechanic and alot of those guys were shady as hell. but when I took my wifes car in I would call them on it . Not any more I filled my head with finance so there in no room for car stuff but I have a mechanic that I trust. the thing is I never trust them completely which is sad but then again no one ever trusts there financial planner completly either lol

yeah the mooses up there can always take it

and it was not nearly as bad as you guys are getting, only like a couple of inches, and the roads are already clear too (unplowed side roads are proably like 75% clear with basically every thing remaining from being in the shade and not melting)

I smell a road trip to the east coast. No but, really if you come down here I'm sure Paul would hook you up and we might also be able to squeeze in a azine meet. Lol
