another solution for my auto CL guys

I'd be willing to bet those are 300-400K motors when maintained. I just did my t-belt at 118K and the engine returned to being silent...auto trans on the other hand seens to have an average life of 70K or so... some live longer some don't make it to 30K

Hi all, I have always used this website as a great resource, but have never posted. I've had experience with transmission issues with my 2001 CL-S, but now I'm looking into this Odyssey swap. I've read through this entire thread and some others and just want to say thank you all for the input. I will post back later with updates on what I do.

Wow, this thread was almost dead. No activity for almost 7 months. I have a feeling that since these cars are getting so old, that many have been junked, rather than fix the expensive tranny.
The wife's car is running good. Although a little fluid on the floor has me thinking I'm going to have to get it up on the lift to see what's going on. I have a feeling it's power steering fluid. The car is a salvage, and although they fixed it good, I think they reused the damaged power steering lines. Of course that was over 10 years ago...
Good luck on the swap. I did mine myself. I just took my time and lots of pictures. It really was not that bad. Although if you're going to do it soon, I hope you have a heated garage there in Columbus. I'm actually only a couple hours away, near Massillon, OH.

30,000 miles later and the Oddy swap is running good still, I actually get to use the sport mode without fear now

So my 02 cl-s is starting to act funny I'm at 208,xxx and have been reading through the forum. I have read that most are going with the 04-06 oddy tranny. But I want to know if there is anything else or a specific DIY page of step by step conversion as far as the three major pieces needing to be swapped over and holes drill and tapped. I plan on doing this myself is why I ask. Thank you

Would this be a good deal? How many more miles you think it will go? My transmission took a crap today and I'm in search for another... http://sacramento.craigslist.org/ptd/4373292297.html

So I just picked up my 06 oddy trans off eBay. It was actually a local buy, but it has 69k miles and I bought an extended 3 month warranty on it as well. It came with the linkage cover as well so I got luck there. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions about the swap for maintenance or anything that would be helpful as I will being doing this swap my self. Anything will be helpful thanks all ahead of time for comments and suggestions. Should I change the torque converter fluid while I have it out? Or just run with everything as is.

lol has anyone ever read through an old thread and caught some of their old posts? Funny how I was such a skiddish noob back in the first few pages.... I was convinced my transmission was just days away from crapping out (dunno why..) but it's been 4 years and it's still going strong.
I'm willing to bet my car would get smashed by a drunk driver long before my transmission goes out.... Gotta do another flush soon, too!

03 cl-s especiale?
Hey, new to the forum, and have owned my 03 Type-S Auto for going on 6 years now. Started out with 75,000 miles in 2008. Now I'm up to 128,500, and as far as I know the transmission is original. I got it flushed at around 100K, and did T-belt at 110K. So far I have had no mechanical issues,(I have had to replace the drivers side ballast twice now, but I just buy cheapo ebay HID kits, the first one lasted 3 years, not bad for $30!!) and I'm wondering... Is there any chance that there are any good transmissions that were produced? I was just wondering because I want to know if I should start saving up for an 04-06 Oddy trans. And i'm a little unsure of this, but does the tiptronic still work after the swap? And how does it shift? Is it sporty, or is it a little slower? I am just wanting to know all this, because I am considering a 6 spd swap, although that is a bit more pricey, but I am just wanting to know if I would be getting the same performance out of the oddy trans.
On a side note: About three years after I bought my CL, someone in a big truck decided to back into the passenger side of my poor CL, right behind the door, luckily the window didn't break, and no airbags went off, and my wife who was in the passenger seat was unharmed. NOW, while it was in the body shop, the technicians discovered a secret about my CL..... IT USED TO BE A DRUG CARTEL CAR! They couldn't get the interior panels off in the back seat. So they started poking around, and found some wires that didn't belong. They cut the wires, and hooked them up to a battery, and CLICK! The side panels popped right open. They had been modified to carry something, I can only imagine! And the panels had been made into locking doors with a secret way to open them. The techs at the body shop put everything back together, and at my request, figured out how the doors opened, and made them operational again.
Anyways, that's my story, looking forward to hearing back from you guys about the transmission info!

I just bought a 2001 cl and the transmission drives fine and doesn't slip but sometimes it jerks or shakes when shifting. Is my tranny failing or is there something else that could be causing this.
#853
Well when it jerks and shakes, is it immediately followed by a shift, or does it behave like that while shifting? Some people here have said that if your transmission "hesitates" when shifting, it's a sign the trans might be on its way out........ however mine has done that for years, no trans failure *knock on wood*
it could very well be one of the solenoids wearing down. If it's a really hard shift, then your trans could be fine, but your motor mounts aren't.

02 CL Type-S with 07 AV6
I just completed putting an av6 swap into my 02 cl type-s with the instructions found on this site and its fantastic works like a champ tiptronic and all cheap too. I did it by myself in the driveway in a couple days. Not easy I mean its a trans swap but doable with some mechanical knowledge and tools.
