another solution for my auto CL guys
Hey NVA,
I'm new so I don't think I can PM. I think my transmission is on its way out and I was looking at replacing it with an Accord transmission. I live in Maryland but have family in Woodbridge. Would you be able to e-mail me a quote for labor if I bought an Accord transmission? Or parts + labor if you think you can find a cheap one? My e-mail is markdt098@gmail.com
Thanks
Edit: BTW this is for a 2001 TL

Okay great. I can find an Odyssey transmission for $900 shipped on eBay. $1500 installed for a transmission that's reliable sounds great. How long does the project normally take?
Edit: Does this look OK?

It normally takes about 1.5 days to do the swap. As far as the tranny, the issues I have is 1, the miles listed is obviously BS, 2, I prefer to buy parts like this from local yards that way if there is a problem it can be delt with relatively quickly.....
What's your availability like? I'm going to be in Woodbridge two weekends from now (Night of April 2nd- morning of the 4th) but that's Easter weekend so I would definitely understand if that doesn't work for you. I'm just worried about waiting too long (my tranny slipped for the first time yesterday so I'm assuming I don't have long.)
Dropped my car off on Thursday and the shop told me it will be done tomorrow after work. Can't wait!
The transmission I bought was on 06 Odyssey with <40k miles for $650 shipped. Labor was a lot cheaper than I expected too--8 hours at $70/hr aint bad at all! I'm excited to finally be able to drive my car again. Thanks for everybody's help.

A yard in New York had 3 06 Ody transmissions - two with <40k miles and one with 41k. The price was $500 and freight from NY to Baltimore was another $150. It took two days to deliver (the guy at the yard said it could take 5 business days so I was really happy to get a call from my shop on Thursday.)
I checked today and they still have the one with 41k available for $500 if anyone wants to pick it up. It's A Plus Auto Salvage out of Lindenhurst, NY. I can't tell anyone about the quality of the transmission yet but their service was great.
Off topic: I'm guessing you drive an E30 as well? I had two of them before my TL. Really great cars but they're getting to the age where the younger ones are nearly 20 years old and were just requiring too much maintenance to keep as a daily driver. I finally decided to let my last one go at around 250k miles when the AC compressor literally exploded.

Damn, all the yards around here charge over $1k for the transmissions. Anyone ever bought from a yard, and haggled the price a bit? I'm keeping any eye on one trans I see on the listings, it's $1300 with 27k miles. They accept offers, but I get the feeling if I went lower than maybe 900 or 1k they'd say forget it.

It's actually a TL. At first they asked if I could provide anymore information for the swap. I told them all I had was what was posted here in the thread (some holes need tapped & drilled, transmission filter housing and range switch need transferred) and they went from there. They said it was pretty easy to prep the transmission.
When I first heard about this swap I thought that my only option would be to take it to someone or somewhere that specializes in custom work but it seems like the job is easy enough that most shops can handle it.

Hey NVA, the shop called and said the power steering speed sensor (or something to that effect) could not go into the odyssey transmission because there is no hole for it. Based on the pictures you posted from the accord tranny I see the hole where it goes into the TL tranny is not there. Did you just not use this sensor and if not, does it effect anything?
I guess the time has come for me to join in the transmission fray.I think I had my first slippage on Saturday about half a mile from my house.Taking off from the traffic light,my car seemed to hesitate taking off while the engine seemed to rev up,then it took off normally.I drove past my house a bit and came back, seeing if it would do it again. It didn't.I have an 02 TL-P w/AT.I called Acura's toll free number and gave them my vin. It's out of warranty by about a year. And to think it has less than 50k miles on it.I checked car-part.com for compatible trannys and there's an 07 TL tranny right here in Tulsa. It has about 10k miles on it and they want 1250 for it.I read where Honda changed the design midyear.According to the site,it looks like the car was bought in December of 06.I'm thinking there's a decent chance it'll fit but I would have to make certain.I would need to know what to look for to see if it's the same design as mine or not.Any input you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. How does the price on this tranny sound btw?And if anyone is local to this area, any advice on who to get to do the swap? Thanks guys.
theres a lot of posts about people using 06 oddy trannys in this thread though...
maybe i'll go check it out in person and post back the pictures of the tranny/engine codes.
