another solution for my auto CL guys
hey guys i recently got a rebuilt tranny put in. now my mechanic doesn't know why he cant get one last code off and he said its in "safety mode"??? something about the car starts in 2nd gear and ends in 2nd as well. he switched the shifter solenoid with one from another CL-S and it's still not working. anyone know of this problem?
i just started my car finally. i only drove it around the block but it worked. i need to button up a few things in the morning and then i can go for a test drive. My story is my torque converter just messed up and my car wouldnt drive at all. So i just did a 2005 honda odyssey tranny swap. It was out of a exl model with 60k miles on it from local LKQ.

I just read the first page of this (dont want to go through the other 13.......lazy) but props for creativity! This is a great solution.
Now i never looked into a 6MT swap when i had my CL but what is the cost of a 6MT swap vs. this swap?

well i drove mine for awhile today and no problems at all just my battery was dead so i got a new one and i have a cel. I went to autozone and it was only one code for my rear o2 sensor. All of the pins came out and i pushed them back in but must have been wrong order so im going to try and get that cleared up.
Good to see alot of people benefiting from this. Kind of funny that Acura couldn't think to do something so simple to fix this huge problem. But then again I'm sure they did but in the end it was more profitable to keep replacing a defective tranny to continue to make money off the same person for the same problem.
put me on the list for tranny deaths also now
just had my tranny go crazy yesterday and have check engine and traction control light come on
tranny used to shift perfectly and all of a sudden it starts slipping like crazy yesterday
just for reference can some one post which trannies will work i remember 04-06 tl and odyssey but for odyssey is there a specific one? i noticed theres different sub models like ex-l, ex, touring, lx can someone let me know???

Hey guys, just signed on here to ask questions. I noticed a slight slipping when my "new" CL I bought yesterday was going into 3rd, and did some research. The car is at 103,000 miles now, and I read that Acura extended their warranty to 109,000. So am I automatically eligible?
Also, if I took it to a dealer, anyone think they'd reasonable consider swapping to a 6spd if I covered all costs past what it would have taken for an automatic?

The warranty is for 7 years, 9 month or 109k miles, which ever comes first. If your car is still under both of those and you are experiecing transmission problems, I would go to the dealer ASAP.
And no, they will absolutely not cover a 6spd swap. The dealer will tell you to GTFO lol

and i dont think acura dealership would put a transmission that doesnt belong to that car.
and anyway if they did they would charge u a ton for labour
best thing to do if u want 6 speed is go to a performance shop that have done tranny/engine swaps before

This question is for those who've done the tranny swap already. Your help is appreciated!
I am having trouble finding a mechanic willing to put in an 06 TL Tranny into my 03 TL type s. I tell them there are "a couple holes that are cast into the housing that need to be tapped, the bosses are there they just need to be drilled and tapped." (I copied that from this thread) and they say they would have to send the tranny to a machine shop to get it drilled.
Is it really necessary to send the tranny to a machine shop to tap and drill the holes? How did you or your mechanics handle this part?
Also how hard is the swap in general? Should any decent mechanic be able to handle the job?

What else do you need to do the Odyssey transmission swap besides the transmission itself?
The tranny on my 01 CLS is slipping and on it's way out, and I am thinking that I am going to go with the Odyssey conversion.
So the years that work are 04-06? And what other parts besides the tranny itself would I need to purchase in order for this conversion to work?

I want to do this swap myself, possible? Ill get help from my friend who is a mechanic, but thats about it.
Anyone have any more info on the modifications needed to make a 3G TL transmission fit? Where does the tranny need to be drilled and where does the filter get relocated? Is it a difficult/skilled/specialized procedure?
This thing needs a DIY...at least on the modifications needed done to the transmission

have you read through the pages?
I do agree that there needs to be some sort of step by step instructions with pics but there arent a lot of people that have done this and even few that have done it themselves. I say, if you have some time, maybe compare your trans to a new trans and using this thread as a guide, see if you can spot the differences.
Maybe paul can chime in and tell you what you need to do. Otherwise, if you decide to tackle this, feel free to post up the DIY

Yeah, i've read it through. I only got that the transmission needs to be drilled and filter relocated, unless I missed something, theres no info on where it needs drilled and how does the filter get relocated.
Ive pmed Paul (im assuming thats NVA AV6) for any more info but he hasnt gotten back to me.
If I have to, ill go at it without more info, depending on when the tranny blows. Hopefully it will stay alive until at least thanksgiving break.

Ok guys......
Preffered would be a 04-06 oddy trans, since it is a mom mobile there is much less chance it has been beaten on and they are plentiful in the yards.
It is not completely a direct drop in there are some parts (trans range switch, trans filter housing) that need to be transferred and a couple holes that are cast into the housing need to be tapped, the bosses are there they just need to be drilled and tapped.
Triptronic is all a matter of ECU, the physical trans has nothing to do with it.

The guy I trying to get one from is trying to figure out shipping for me but they want him to bring the tranny there to get it weighed and it's 45 miles from him and he don't want to just drive it there to get it weighed.
Anyone ?
OK I am trying to verify a couple of things real quick. My trans went out last week, and I would like to get a new one ordered this week if I can. I have an e-mail out on a 06 Odyssey trans with 29k miles, but is that the best trans option? Also I have read that you need to swap over the filter housing, so does that mean I would need a CL filter or do I need to get one for the Odyssey? Speaking of filters I was looking around at them (well trying to) and found one that says its internal to the trans and not part of regular maintenance (this was for the Odyssey trans). Does that sound right or is there only one filter on these things? Last one, about how much fluid will I need to fill this thing up? I plan on flushing it which will take 14qts (my boss has a T-Tech machine at his house
) but I need to make sure I get enough fluid to fill it up first.
Sorry for all of the questions, but I am doing this myself and I am trying to go in prepared. Any other info on this anyone can give me I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance for the help guys. I will try my best to document the swap for you guys when I do it in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks,
Sean

So, I'm going to have to need to do the Odyssey swap eventually. Not now, but sometime in the next couple of years, probably.
Anyone that's in the New Jersey area... where did you get the swap done? Or, can anyone recommend a shop that's done these swaps, even if it's second-hand information?
I guess to get something as important as this done, I'd be willing to take it to the city as well... New York, north Jersey, central NJ...
