2009 Acura RL 3.7 (J37A4) with 88 miles was bought and paid for yesterday and will be shipped from Canada within 5-7 business days. The best part about it? I paid a little over $1500 for the beast.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Hey, I'm doing something good if you're hating on me.

To be 100% honest, I'm not even certain of the engines purpose is yet. I thought about stripping the heads off of it and maybe parting out the block BUT running this motor in its factory assembled form sure does sound inviting on using it as an excuse to drop it in my vacant 03 TL-S. I dunno, I think after scrutinizing it once it arrives will help me decide. If it looks like a true 88 mile engine, I'll more than likely leave it untouched. However, if it looks like an 88 mile flood engine or a 160k hulled out motor, I'll let me my imagination run wild. The only reason this motor was purchased was because it was too good of a deal to pass.

I bought a brand new, in the oem Honda packaging, j37a4 complete cylinder head a while back and ever since then I've had this annoying itch to be the first to run a j37a4 swap. The 6MT trans for these things are between $1200-1600 used but are thoroughbred beasts! I'm sure that some modifications would be necessary for converting the trans to FWD only as it is an AWD setup. I know the j37a4 bellhousing could technically allow me to bolt up an 07-08 6MT the j37a4 6MT has larger, hardened shafts, redesigned heavy duty clutch and closer gear ratios. Besides, why not pay the few hundred extra dollars for a much better transmission anyways?

Having too many engines can be like having too many women when you're single....it all just becomes too complicated!

***UPDATE***

So, after Thanksgiving dinner and spending some time with the wife and kids, I made a trip up to the shop and put in some time on the Accord. Got the front bank valve seals replaced and reinstalled the rockers. Although replacing valve seals with the head ON the engine is much more time consuming, it sure beats pulling them back off again.

Before leaving, I grabbed my lower intake runners so I could paint them as they are the only cast parts left on my engine. I seen something I'd never noticed before and glad I did because this could've been bad. I am running j32a2 fuel rails (OBX brand I think) and because they didn't bolt up to my previous j35a8 motor, I had a buddy machine the mounts so I could adjust them necessarily to fit my runners. Well, he basically made the bolt hole horizontally oblong and that worked for the j35a8 runner ports. But when installed on the j37a1 intake runners, the injectors slightly lean to the side and look like they could've been nicking the top of the port itself. So I'm making the necessary corrections there before painting them.

Last but not least, I got my oil thermostat in to help regulate my oil temps now that I'll have a remote filter/oil cooler setup to be installed. This thing is pretty much a must have when running a fluid cooler because oil that doesn't heat up enough stays too thick and causes power loss by excess windage not to mention inability to create an adequate layer of film on bearing surfaces and when running 10lbs+ of boost...this could be detrimental to the engine itself. Cost me less than $80 and is 100% aircraft quality:

Figured I'd snap a quick photo of the Accord as I left her to sleep for the night. She looks so mean....even on the operating table!

When complete, she's gonna rip a new ass in every car that pulls up beside her! Hahaha!!! Can't wait....

I'm interested in this new 6speed you're referring to. Stronger and closer gear ratios sound smexy! Could the 6 speed be mounted to the j32a2's? If not, I wonder if the internals of that tranny can be moved onto the cls-6 transmission.

Have an extra set of 485cc with your name on it if you're still having issues.

He has injectors twice that size already in his setup. The injectors aren't the problem.

What's the temperature set for the thermostat?

No and nope. In no way are they interchangeable nor are their internals. My best suggestion would be an adapter plate.

Picked this up a few days ago. This is the long awaited combo my TL-S has waited so patiently (1.5 years) for. A j32a2 6mt engine and trans. A great find thanks to Mr Hickam who even hand delivered to my shop....at 9:00 at night! Lol

No crap. Or at the least offered as an option. Finally in the 3g TL's did they get smart and throw the 6mt in the mix. That should be a new rule for Honda manufacturing, offer every model with the option of 6mt! Than you would see the man of the house get more interested in models like the Odyssey or the MDX to carry the wifey and kids around in.

power this...power that. Those Advics won't stop it. Let's see some 8 pot clampers on this puppy.

Then again...I hear some vet's are fine with 1 pot stompers so who knows...

New business, although doing well, has laid an easy 20 or so years on me. Its funny and I joke about it constantly but my REAL job starts the moment I walk through my front door. Have you ever been in a situation that involves watching multiple midgets that are borderline insane? yeah....its like that.

I'm going to try and bring some food to the table this week and feed some of your hungry eyes. Ive been trying to dedicate the last hour of my day at the shop to the car and have made some distance.

I still have the axles, oil cooler, misc heat shielding, EGT system, audible warning alarms (oh yeah...seriously), cooling system hoses, etc to do before putting her on the road. I know it will be well worth the agony and tribulation once shes up and going flawlessly. Primary objective number one: RELIABILITY....

That is one clean looking j32a2 engine and tranny. I see no rust.

2nd gen section is almost dead. My thread is active but noone ever looks at it or comments much. I keep wondering why I bother posting updates.

Swoosh has never posted in my thread which makes me sad.

Putting a build thread in the photo section was a bad idea. Wish the 2nd gen cl forum had a performance section like all the other cars get.

I read your updates Brian, I just don't know what to post because you hate everything!!! LOL jk,

Rob looks amazing, looking forward to seeing some pictures and videos of it in action. Its good that you have some momentum now, it is easier to keep going little by little then to start and stop all the time. Paving ways over here for turbo builds and actual tuning!

Since I already confide with you guys about my current relationship, I decided on admitting to you guys that I had an affair pretty much all day long. Yep, I do feel bad but I had a lot of fun riding her today. Who? An early model M3.

Here's the thing, it was a 98 with 62k original miles sporting a 317hp 3.2 liter with a 5-speed manual. Cool thing was that these cars have VANOS (similar to Honda's VTEC) on both intake and exhaust like the j37a4 has. When you push the gas, this car delivered such a strong and smooth powerband that feels very nice. The motor seemed perfectly matched with its chassis....and I think I may have just found another car I'd consider buying (other than Honda) and this has never happened, EVER.

Just thought I'd mention this to you guys and see what discussion arises from those who have driven any performance oriented BMW model before.

Discuss...

My neighbor has one and i walk all over him all day long. Not to mention it seems like once a week its in my garage replacing something (and it only has around 90k) . I think he has more into parts than he paid for it

The motor seemed perfectly matched with its chassis....and I think I may have just found another car I'd consider buying (other than Honda) and this has never happened, EVER.

well...a little more research and apparently the "Euro" version actually does put out 316hp good for 0-60 in low 5's...whoop de doo.

That's funny. My R&R tech was telling me the same thing about them. That's a huge turn off for me. Reliability > Performance

And I'm speaking in regards to factory rated performance here. I know they're no match for a 3.7 with some quality mods.

The cost of parts too...JEEEZ!

And you're right, I didn't see that earlier when I searched the M3 (I used wiki also. Lol) but this guy has some work done to the car though nothing internal. I kept telling myself it felt more like 300bhp and now that I know the actual stock power, I'm guessing that figure is probably more realistic. But the car was fast. I was impressed.
