Any thoughts around bluetooth enabling the WinCE machine to be used with a bluetooth cell phone as a wireless GRPS/EDGE modem for real mobile internet access? I think this would be more practical than WiFi.

Also, any possibilities to keep current TSX functionality while adding new console options?

Things I'd like to see if it's possible:

A) CD-Text for the 6-disc changer.
B) MP3 through the 6-disc changer.

I'm hoping these are limited through software and not hardware.

I'd rather not giveup my navigation system just to play DVD / MP3. I get lost to easily

Bysin,
Mp3 playback from the indash 6 would be the most ideal.

BTW: Just curious for all those who have the factory mp3 player how do you interface with the system?

DVD is good, but having to lose the navigation isn't really a good ideal. Only time I would want my passenger to watch dvd is when im traveling far, but than i rather have my navigational system.

I rather have mp3, but if we can't use the in-dash cd changer to play the mp3 it's not worth it cause we lose the navigational system again.

If we can use the pc slot for extra memory, that would be a great idea, but someone posted that the navigational system dont use all the speaker except the front one. Is it worth it than for mp3 or dvd?

To fix the speaker problem, i guess what we have to look at is if the software has something to do with the audio in the car. I thought when bysin modified the bin file, its only meant for the navigation system only. This has nothing to do with the audio/speaker system. I dont think that navigational system in the trunk has nothing to do with the stereo system for the car. My guess is that we have to also hack into the stereo system since bysin modification only deals with the navi.

Great to have WinCE, but if we cant get it working with the speakers, its worthless to have DVD and mp3.

It all comes down to the hardware of the system. Somewhere in the software of the navi enables the front right speaker, if we can find away to make it enables all the speaker than mp3 and dvd would be my top pick if we can use the pc slot for extra memory. Can't lose the navi functionality either.

First off, way to go bysin. Second, I'd like to see the nag screen completely bypassed if possible.

Here is the background I created for my TSX. If you want the Photoshop PSD file so you can play with the layers, send me a PM and I'll email it to you (its about 500KB).

Another thought might be to try to recognize which key was used to start the car (e.g. valet, driver 1, driver 2) and load the screen image based on that. So when you go to the dealer, you hand him the valet key and he gets the normal logo ...
just a thought...

Your AM/FM/XM radio, your speakers, your CD player and CD changer all can be changed by your windows ce navigation system.

Yeah, it can control those devices, but can the WinCE system actually access the stereo's 6-speakers? I'm skeptical about this.

And, so, if if the WinCE system cannot output audio through the Alpine head unit/amp setup, then any DVD/MP3 project will have mono output.

This is what I was saying before about thinking through the project priorities based on what's really doable with the hardware.

A lot of folks here are asking for things that simply can't be done because while WinCE is powerful enough, it's only as powerful as the inputs and output devices it has access to.

That does mean, however, we can have a lot of fun with the HVAC, Audio controls, etc., because they are all devices the WinCE system clearly has access to.

I want to re-up my vote for GRPS/EDGE bluetooth cell phone connectivity using IE for CE. That would just be awesome.

Bysin, you mentioned that with internet access, you'd need a hotspot ... does that mean you'd be able to interface with a wifi card in the pccard slot? If so, would you be able to interface with other cards? My ultimate dream would be to interface with a usb/firewire card to access a large usb/firewire hard drive stuffed to the gills with mp3s.

Furthermore, if you workout getting a win ce desktop to load, is there anyway to make it not look all microsoft-y ?

I'm a mac/unix guy, so even though the functionality of a win ce desktop would rock, it'd sure look awful! I know theming/skinning windows is easy, is win ce the same?

What you are asking for is pretty much what it is now.

I believe the majority of the people here do NOT want to have to touch the screen to keep it on. If you like that feature, don't mod it... you can still change your background without the nag mod... but I firmly believe the final no-nag should completely eliminate the need to touch the screen to keep it active.

I totally agree. I for one will not be interested at all in loading up anything if it takes away from the current features that l love (like navigation). So unless we can access storage in say the expansion slot, no thanks for me.

I mainly want the nag screen "OK" gone, and I'm happy. If at some point I can add more programs without removing the Navi DVD... then that's just icing on the cake.

What I'd love is to just keep the splash screen up while said background processing continues, and after delay, proceed automatically.

Great work, bysin.

jpg images on linux kiddies

Tl'er here thanking bysin for getting me to actually try and keep my 04' out of service department for vibrations! This is awesome to see progress and I'm following it every day which is really cool.

I do have a question about the images on linuxkiddies. They are in jpg format. I know how to convert to bmp but the gui interface says it won't allow the size. Just basically trying to cut and paste off of the linux site at this stage. Why would the images be in jpg on the linux site?

Also if I try to make an image bmp in photoshop it only allows me to save in 16 bit-32 bit format. Thanks again bysin. Donation will be coming shortly!

I did read that and I appreciate your answer matelot. Try not to bust my balls, I got a 2 month old that needs attention, then theres the four year old, then theres the wife, the house, the job, etc.... I did read all these posts or I wouldn't have got as far as I did and I am definitely no software engineer let alone photoshop guru...

Thanks again and next time I'll try to take it all in.

anybody who has taken apart the nav unit?

I just got my TL last week and am not quite ready to take apart the nav unit yet. (Just want to wait until I make that first scratch elsewhere) Has anybody looked into the idea of replacing the DVD drive with a standard or laptop HDD and loading the NAV files on it? This would give us more space to play around with without having to keep loading new DVD's or CD's. If the unit can handle it (bios and/or wiring) I'd be up for that. We wouldn't need to look at flash ram in the PC slot (other than loading items) and it should make the loading faster assuming the dvd is the slowest part and not the processor.

Or a second idea along the same lines: Assuming the DVD is a standard IDE interface and again the bios could handle it adding a hdd as a slave drive.

Anybody looked at this yet?

Excellent work so far

What would really be useful to me is

1) Contact synchronization with my Phillips Nino, so that I could peruse the contacts
on the navi while using my cellphone. Any way to show the addres in the address
book with a "pushpin" type indicator would be excellent also.

2) Synchronization with my digital recipe organizer. This would be very useful
for trips to the grocery store to buy ingredients for a meal. Typically I go back
3-4 times now to get the ingredients I forgot, and I am always using my navi
each time to find my way back to the store.

3) If the wireless is possible, it would be nice to park my car near a hotspot, and
then interface to my Myth PC at home. I often reboot it atleast 2 times each
day because the mpeg drivers crash, would be great to do this while in my car.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i did the whole process where u have to update the BIN files using the navhack, in which i did...then burned it on to my new disk..

after folloing the instructions, i took out the DVD disk out of the Navi, and loaded the burned CD with the new BIN files.

after being loaded, it says loading...but then it says "Please replace disk".... i tied this with two diffrent disks, and same thing came up.

help!?

oh..and out of these things...which one should i use?

GUI version: DumpNAVI GUI 1.5
Console version: DumpNAVI CONSOLE 1.2
Console version source: DumpNAVI CONSOLE 1.2 (SRC)

i used the GUI version...did i do the right thing?

And installed:

And as everyone has already said, Bysin has joined the ranks of the mod gods. We appreciate all the hard work!

After removing the DVD disk, click on the button for load disk on your navi unit. Then insert your burned CD.

Also, it doesn't matter which UI you use but most people seem to be using the GUI.

Why not sync you grocery list to your nino?
