Nope, mine look fine . . . so far.

Acura says

"There's nothing wrong with your alignment. It may be those aftermarket springs you got on there. That can change things."

 :swear2:

So, I guess I'll check with Comptech and see what they say could be killing my tires. 6k miles on my new set, and the front pair are f*cking ruined.

I've got the printout for the alignment they rechecked this morning, and everything is well within specified range.

You go from 35 to 281 from Georgetown to Marble Falls on FM 1431 (I think this is correct--I wrote it down on my map which is in the other room).
how in the world did you find that road?? Were you just exploring and got lucky?

DZ, I just thought of a couple of things that might impact your tire wear.

The springs can be installed wrong on two parts.

1) The springs are designed specifically for FL, RL, LR, RR. The springs are marked, but the installer could have not paid attention and messed up.

2) The springs must be positioned in a certain manner to ensure a proper ride. So if the spring is not rotated to ride on the support correctly, this could be an issue. Also, I recall that there is some sort of "rubber" bushing that must be used and I recall someone noting that we make sure the installer does not throw this out.

IMO, any of those points would not necessarily impact the alignment, but could impact the ride and tire wear.

You might want to see how you can double check those points.

yeah, and he showed me that it was adjusted to 0.00 on left, right and cross check. that's apparently not the problem.

I thought about that right after he said there was no alignment problem. Maybe the left-right springs are backward or something. The rubber bushing is in there. I checked when they installed it.

Hmmm... how to check for spring L/R placement... and rotation...

It has been posted.

I'm gonna get a set of Koni Yellows in the near future (VISA is trembling just thinking about it), so I'll having the springs off at that time.

the wheels could be bent or the tires could be improperly fitted as well... if the alignment is showing in spec numbers there's absolutely no reason for uneven wear. what about the tire pressure? that could be a problem as well.

Only thing I can think of -- after getting the "you probably need a camber kit" response from CT, is that the car is mildly within spec (-0.6 and -0.9 where limits are -1.0 to 1.0) without me sitting in it, and with my weight, it pushes the camber past spec???

I only weigh 175, so no fat jokes are applicable here.

it could be odd, but your struts might be simply going out and could be causing the camber problem. if i'm not mistaken, you put quite a large amount of miles on your ride. a camber kit will fix the problem, but struts could as well. that's kinda odd about the springs IMO. i've never heard of a spring having to go on the front left or right... didn't really think that mattered. according to all the suspension i've worked on and seen that never mattered.

and for the time being, my racing days are done... my timing chain tensioner is out and courtesy wants $1500 for the labor... my response... F*UCK THAT! So i've gotta pick up the part and do it myself... could be interesting. wish me luck in a few weeks when I attempt this horrible maintenance job.

Good luck, and I understand trying to do it yourself . . . that big buck for that . . .

have fun Casper, I don't even know what a timing chain tensioner is. I guess that's the good thing about having a timing belt, that's a lot cheaper to change. Good luck.

yep, but it lasts a lot longer than a belt. It's probably supposed to get maintenance at the 100K mile tune up.

Oh yeah, I sat in an '04 TL this morning while they were checking out my stuff, and I really like it. I wanna drive one soon and see how it handles / performs. The build quality is waaay tighter than my '01 CL-S.

If they had an '05 CL in the works that had similar (but more aggressive) styling to the '04 TL, I'd probably buy one. Wishful thinking I guess... I'll probably end up with a used M3--which is still nice.

I saw a real nice looking CLS on 190 this evening . . . so I decided to give him some hell . . . blew me away . . .

Turns out it was Mantis . . . he didn't know it was me and I tried to call him, but with his music SO LOUD he didn't hear his phone ring.

BTW - he didn't recognize me because I was in my brother's Honda minivan . . .

That Mantis will run anything . . .

Inferno, If you make the trip again stay on 281 all the way back to Hico then take the cut off to 67N. This is a much nicer ride and only 20 min longer if you are not in a hurry. Avoid all that traffic on 35 and a lot better scenery.
