That's awesome! The 97 is the best subject for a DTM.

The 5spd's are hard to find, so if it's half way decent, grab that sucker! If you need any help getting it checked out or tested or modded (hehe), let me know. Send him over to our forums as well. There is TONS of information there and on the ORG. North Texas Nissan up there is one of the 3 dealerships that give us a helping hand. I'll be up there next week gettin my knock sensor replaced. If you go up there be sure to get the DNE discount .

It has 160K miles on it, do you think that's too much, or just fine for an old Max? The guy I talked to said his wife drove it back and forth an hour each way to Ft. Worth so it's mostly highway miles.

Looks really, really great: now that is a meet (great cars, even better roads)!!!

It looks like they treated you right, Danny.
Yep that's Comptech, but they were closed cause it was Sat. It was lots of fun!

that's a shit load of miles for a 97! about 27k a year!

if you think the motor is running fine then go for it. I have multiple friends with older 3rd gen maximas way past 200k miles. And if the motor goes, I know a couple people that you can get a replacement from fairly cheap.

I'll be out of town this weekend, but if you can wait till next weekend, I'll come out and check it out.

what color is it btw?

It's a White GXE with a black dash, and dark gray cloth seats. Yeah that's a lot miles, but they live out almost to Mineral Wells and his wife drove it to Ft. Worth daily. We went and saw it today and drove it. The interior looks brand new. The seats had covers on them so there is no wear. When I started it up it cranked immediately and ran like it was new too. The clutch felt a bit rough engaging 1st gear, but it's not bad. And there were only a couple minor scratches and dings.

That engine has a timing chain right Casper? If so does it require any maintenance you know of?

The owner is going to take it to Jerry's Nissan tomorrow to get a maintenance inspection and Jerry's is gonna fax us the report. If it's all good, we'll probably get it b4 the weekend.

Red Riders car could roast his Toyos, he'd have to feather the gas until it hooked up to get a good launch. I was gonna ride in Hammerman's Z, but unfortunately my ride had to leave early so I didn't get a chance too. But he said I probably got a better ride with Red Rider anyway cause he takes it all the way to the edge.

So Casper, what are some good cheap mods for a 97 Max? I'll make him do the tail light mod, maybe we could have a light mod meet and do the Max tails and mantis' headlights.

I'm also gonna need clear front corners on the Max. How hard is it to install the white SE gauges? Need some fog lights. Courtesy FSTB. 5th gen 17"s maybe. Does anyone make a short shifter? What about sways and springs? Definitely need a spoiler. PIAA lights. Hmmm, my bro better start saving his money for all the stuff I want to do.

Do you know if ABS was standard or not, I forgot to ask if it had it.

I would love to help you do the tail mod! That will give me the chance to show you guys JUST how easy it is to take apart light housings and put them back together and ENSURE no condensation. Then we'll do Mantis's headlights afterwards.

I've never installed gauges myself, but they aren't to hard according to my buddies. Fog lights are easy to get. As far as a FSTB, just go get the ebay one. It's not bad surprisingly. The 5th gen 17" wheels are nice, but they are becoming a trend around here. Stillen makes a short shifter and so does Pacesetter. Go with the Pacesetter. Very nice shifter ( ). Just a rule of thumb, DON'T buy Stillen unless you're getting it used because their stuff is so damn expensive and not worth it. I forgot who makes the sways besides Stillen, but you can find out on the ORG. The rear sway makes a HUGE difference from what i'm told. Springs. Maxspeed, Eibach, and DropZone (ebay) are the smaller drops, Progress and Sprint are the bigger drops but you HAVE to get new struts. KYB AGX's are the best for the Max. GR2's will be fine. As far as the spoiler goes, me and a few others believe that the 4th gen max is one of the few cars that still looks pretty good without one. My favorite spoiler however is the Type II. It's beautiful but expensive as hell.

All of your basic mod/maintenance questions can be found in the FAQ in the 4th gen section of the ORG.

ABS was an option, but you probably don't have it on a GXE.

I'll get with a buddy of mine about finding you an SE front grill so that it will be white instead of chrome, or I can get my buddy that is a wizard with painting plastic and can make that thing white for you. There are about 5 different choices when it comes to the Y. Warspeed is probably the overall best, but you can go cheap and get the Budget Exhaust one like I did, but it creates a "bees in a can" noise at WOT because of the flex section. If you don't mind it, go budget. We'll get together and make our own short ram intake. I've never really seen an advantage to getting a CAI, but he can if he'd like. Injen makes the only one that doesn't require drilling. It's filter sits right behind the radiator. The others run over to the fender well.

anything else?

sadly enough, that Nismo oil cap is outrageously expensive and so is that liscence plate frame... it's pretty stupid.

Nope, so far so good. I used both teflon tape and every bit of that vasoline grease on those sways.
