It's actually very easy. You have to have the concept down and a means to create the frame to glass.

can you even paint that funny rubbery stuff? you mgiht have to primer it with something but I don't know what you'd use to paint that with. I have a feeling that'd be a recipe for ugliness if you attempted painting it, especially if you plan on glossing off the finish at he end. what color are you planning on painting it?

I want to paint it red. I think it will have to be a vinyl based paint so it will flex. Did you know most lether is painted.

Dyno results:
Before mods=158.5HP 149.6T
After=167.3HP 159.3T $90.90 per HP

Well, after 2 1/2 days of sweating my ass off, going at it from about 10AM till 5-6 each day, here it is. I did not have much money to put towards this, so I did not by the high end stuff.

Sony CDX-M630
Bazooka ELA3001 (500w x1 Mono block amp)
2 Infinity 1030W (10" Subs)

Before (with just air tanks):

Day 1:

Striped

No more air for now (ok, this really has to be done before the kids have to be to school Monday!!!)

All hard lines for air ride removed:

I hope this all fits....

End of day 1...

No picturs for day 2. Mostly tedious little things that had to be done like carpeting, etc.

Here are some finish shots. I need to take pictures during the day, but after I finished this morning, I decided to spend some time with my family this weekend

A couple in the dark (hard to see)

I tell you, I had asperations of doing a lot more. But with the air ride, it has to be hooked up to go. So I had only a couple days to get it all done and make sure it lifts back up and goes

Fiberglass would have been too much to get done in time. Anyway, for less than $1k, I got a head unit, amp, subs, all the materials needed to stomp it out. And from my days as a MECP certified installer, I can still design and dampen enclosures. Those two 10's rock like you wouldn't believe.....

Well gentlemen....

I'm so proud mantis... you turned out to be such a PW! :P

The dyno was a blast! To start, I can guarantee at this very point that SpeedWorks will NEVER receive the business of the DNE or my personal business ever again. Over the phone we were told $40 and they screwed us by charging $50 once we got there. We didn't have much of a choice seeing as so many people were schedule to come. Anyways, all in all there were 23 cars that dyno'ed! Including a number of 350Zs, a pair of Sylvia conversions, a turbo'ed SC300, and a number of other cars. The highest numbers for the day (excluding the vette) were 324hp for the turbo'ed SC300. The dyno guys were sorta rough with the cars and would go from full throttle to no gas with the gas pedal which ended up blowing a coupling (I believe) on the piping. I was the only Maxima to dyno.

Results:
Last dyno: 163hp (don't remember torque)
Saturday: 173hp, 180tq.

Mods since last dyno include the short ram intake, commercial racing fully synthetic oil, and complete cleaning job on intake system. Total cost was around $170. Which puts me at about $17 per hp. I'm one happy camper!

Next week we will be going to Lake Grapevine to hang out with another car group (NvUs).

Very very Nice Chris S. & Chris P.

I wish I had the tools to build that stuff In my garage.

So I assume you built the box on your own, how long did it take?

I think I'm gonna order a couple of fiberglass videos to help me get started
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...386115-5601606

What kind of material is covering the amp, plexiglass?

I'm kinda suprised you were the only Max to dyno Chris, sounds like you had a great turnout.

Too bad speedwerks screwed you in the end there.

Is a faultless dyno shop in the DFW area too much to ask for?

Lone Star had great customer service, but the dyno wasn't calibrated well, speedwerks likes to serve you up the rear with no vaseline. *sigh*

That's just a 1/4" piece of plexi I cut and mounted. THere is two red neon tubes and a fan under there with the amp.

I had the box, main raised floor and two side panels built by the end of the first day. The 2nd day I carpeted everything and started assembling it all back together (air ride). Those 1/2" air lines don't like to bend much so it was real fun getting it all situated so that I could lift the center deck to get to the spare if I ever needed to.

The third day was just finishing touches for a couple hours.

wow, Chris looks like you did a great job. I would've never attempted to remove all the components for the air ride myself, I know I would have screwed something up. Nicely done.

Chris S. It was good to see all the cool cars at the dyno. Sorry I left so early but I had to go lay down before I fell down. Stayed out to long at the lake the night before and had made plans to party in Cowtown Saturday.

Anyway now I know I got a long way to go. By the way at our last dyno the Temp was 72 and the humidity was 34%. When I dynoed Sat. the temp 78 and 80% humidity. I know this robbed us of some HP.

5000 posts! Good job mantis, I wonder if there have been any threads longer than this one. It would have had to be a PW thread, but I think they always got locked way b4 5000 posts.

I PMed Hanzie this question, but I don't know how much he frequents this board any more, so I'll ask you guys.

A guy I work with has an S2K and is looking for an AEM intake for it. He prefers to find a used one and save some $. I told him to check around on some S2K boards, but the only one we both knew of was S2Ki.com. Anyone know where else to look, or some good places to buy a new one?
Thanks-

Thanks for the compliments guys. Your right, I used to do car audio/video/security for a living for Mobile One Autosound in New Orleans for 2.5-3 years. I have always been into car audio, but haven't messed with car audio for 8-9 years. I guess my reasoning for doing this was a car show I went too last week where an Eclipse with a horrible install and no real upgrades had trophies all over the place.

By the way, Hooters is having car shows at a few locations every Sunday. The one in Arlington is having one sponsored by the Drop Zone on 08/17. I may go to some others before that too.

Not sure on the steering wheel. I think if you turn the wheel a little, you will see two screws on the back side, then it's just a matter of yanking it off.

BTW, painting that will peel like crazy after a while. You way want to take it and have it dyed.

Edit:

Looks like you remove the rear cover after those first screws, which reveal more...

so mantis, where are the purge valves (or whatever they're called) for the NOS gonna be? I saw a WS6 with them down by the nose of the car so it looked like a dragon blowing smoke out his nose. That might have been in that scooter video Casper posted here.

Not a good idea since this an't the same happy gas the dentist gives you. We need to rig a whole different system for that! I do think we should try it on Mantis car fist however.

Thanks Chris P. I gotta think about this more. It may just look a little to cheesy.

I can't beleive they don't have your shock back at Imsport, Mantis. I think we need to do an e-mail berage to the manufactor and spread the word on there poor service. Whats the company name and e-mail address? This is bull shit!!

Bluesman, the humidity is as bad as the heat from what I have learned. I have been told the humidity affects how much fuel can be saturated into your air the same way heat does. I guess Arizona has the ideal conditions at night: low temps and low humidity--especially if you are closer to sea level. The dyno's are supposed to have a computer program that "corrects" for sea leval, temputure, and barametric pressure. I don't think they account for humidity very well. I had a long conversation at Lone Star Performance about this the last time I was there.

My two bits: don't lose the 5K thread until they shut us down. I don't care if it bogs a little at peak hours--I think we have enough vital, new, and varied conversation that they don't look at us as a bunch of Nissan Post Whores (you know who I am talking about, Mr Poet-man...)!
