everyones situation is different, but the way i see it if you're buying new now its time to upgrade to 1440p. that in itself brings on its own struggles especially if you're gaming. gonna need more gpu power. for reading text and stuff its super mega awesome. i learned that real fast when i started working from home due to covid. my work computer was 1080p but seeing that stuff on my 1440p monitor i felt more productive (might not be the best word here). you can just see more with less user input if that makes sense
anyone into mechanical keyboards? my keyboard that has been on backorder for 4 months has arrived. got some cherry mx browns, its an uncommon brand here in the states
plenty of competitive players use a 24” high refresh rate (240 or 360hz) monitor with it. Primary escorts games at like >=240fps.
There was also some article about how 24” is a sweet spot to fill up your vision without having to shift your eyes around with a larger display. Not sure how true that is anymore, I’m old
interesting keyboard. hows the wireless functionality? battery life? when i last looked there were no wireless mechanical keyboards
and uhh yeah another tech launch (radeon) today with no stock anywhere
Battery on it is huge, 4000 mAh. There's a keyboard shortcut to check battery life - the LEDs light up green rn - which means battery is at least 70%. Been using it for 5 days since its last charge. Use it throughout the entire work day and a bit more on my computer too.
I really like it, desk is a lot cleaner. Lots of BT ones I've seen have issues. This one occasionally makes weird inputs, necessitating turning the board off and on again but it's not often enough to bother me. I wanted one board (no dongle) to switch between devices and this is among the better options. No perceptible input lag.
Considering getting a wireless mouse since they are indistinguishable from wired ones when gaming these days.
Stock is gonna be constrained until well into Q1 2021 is my guess. Holidays increase demand
So I can't plug in my old sound bar speakers in to my new monitor because the old speakers were powered by the monitor using a proprietary plug.
Any suggestions on a budget pair (under $100 or less, preferably less) of speakers i could use and put underneath the monitor? i don't think a sound bar will work since the monitor base is the kind with legs spread eagle.
The sound will be muffled if you put speakers behind the monitor, and will sound wonky if you lay them on their side. Ideally the tweeters should be ear-level, or at least pointed towards your ears.
If you're not particular and just want sound, laying them flat could be a temporary workaround. Don't think you want that permanently, do you?
(says the guy who listens to his monitor's built-in, downward firing speakers)
The dual AUX input isnt really necessary, but your company disables the MacOS volume control buttons if you output audio over displayport or HDMI.
tell me about it. Annoying that I couldn't manually adjust system volume, so for webex and other stuff I have to set the volume to about half. My DAC/AMP is powered via USB through the MBP, and I have an optical cable connected to my computer.
There's ways to bypass it, but work computer = can't install random crap
I also just bought the X-Rite i1Display Studio Colorimeter. The color balance between my 2 monitors is kind of funky.
The LG has a more warm tone and my BenQ SW240 has more of a cool green tone. Hoping calibrating them will even them out.
So this definitely helped balance out the color on my monitors. Holy shlt were things way oversaturated and my brightness was cranked up like crazy.
And no more color cast on my monitors.
And I ended up going the cheap ass route and using an old bluetooth speaker as my primary speaker for my computer. I only use speakers for youtube. so didnt need anything fancy
And so now im thinking of picking up a 60% mechanical keyboard strictly for gaming. I'd keep this full size apple keyboard around due to the numpad and control buttons.
Thinking of the Ducky One 2 Mini v2 or maybe the Mecha Mini v2 with Cherry MX blue keys? not sure if i want to go with blue or red. Red is more linear with no tactile clickity clack to it that blues have?
Or maybe the Anne Pro 2
all good options imo. the switch is just personal preference. i always thought the blues were for people who type alot and enjoy the typing sound, i personally dont mind it and it sounds like quality to me. and the reds were just straight up for gaming.
i've only tried reds/browns and prefer the browns. only talking about cherry switches btw
Nah I'm probably going to skip this gen and stick with my 2060 Super for now
I'mma wait until the 3060Ti is regluarly in stock (no scalping or going OOS in seconds) and until Cyberpunk 2077 is fully patched and AMD processors can fully utilize all cores....maybe Q1 or Q2 of next year for me....
I've made the switch from Chrome to Edge, so far so good. Few differences so far. Twitter complains that I'm on an unsupported browser for some reason though it says it supports Chromium, another site for work appeared blank, but it handles Aero Snap window resizing properly and better than Chrome did. It handles some of my Chrome extensions differently and better. I have an extension for my VoIP Desktop app that allows me to click on a phone number on a webpage and that types the phone number into the dialer automatically for me, Chrome would always prompt me for permission, Edge gives me an option to always allow on a website by website basis, which is pretty good. But on the Dark Reader extension my keyboard shortcuts don't work anymore like they do in Chrome, and I don't see the option for them at all. Also I can't pin as many sites to the New Tab page. I'm still using Google search but Bing has definitely gotten better over the past few years, their AI is catching up enough that I'll at least try a web search in Bing first if it's the default and if it can't figure it out I'll then go to Google to find what I need. 3 out of 5 stars
What the benefit of that monitor over the LG 27GN950 just USB C?
The panel is probably exactly the same. Althought Eve does have a tad brighter peak brightness, which should help for HDR content. (600nits vs 750 nits on the eve, but would still suck since no local dimming) https://www.displayspecifications.co...son/697611f879 (there is a typo on the sustained brightness, eve says its 450nits not 650)
Eve on their 1440p 240hz and 4K 144hz monitors, offer HDMI 2.1, which offers benefits of supporting 8K60hz/4K120hz, variable refresh rate and an Auto Low Latency mode.
The LG 27GN950 only has HDMI 2.0. But this is moot for PC users, since most would be using DisplayPort 1.4.
Eve also sells the stand separately, so if you already have a monitor arm, you can save $100, which comes out cheaper than the LG.
Other than that, I'm not really seeing any benefit. But the Eve monitor was announced a way long time ago, If they actually had met their target release date, then it would've been out way before the competition had anything comparable.
But since it took so long, the competition has released comparable products.
For me, I'd go with the LG unless I absolutely cared about 10gbps USBC and HDMI 2.1.
Or wait for the monitors to be announced in 2021.
Honestly thou, I like how my LG 27GN850 completely removed the USB ports compared the previous years LG 27GL850. I never use the USB ports on monitors because they are typically placed in an awkward location if I wanted to plug in something. Same goes for a SD card reader.
I do like the location of where Dell put the USB and headphone jack on their S2721DGF monitor. I wish more monitor companies would put some ports on the bottom so its easier to access.
I’ve never used a mechanical keyboard other than those old school IBM keyboards in the typing class I took in high school.
I like it so far. I got the red keys. Keys are very smooth. Space bar has good stability when I press on the edge of the key. Doesn’t get all wobbly or not register a press.
the RGB options are pretty neat.
thing is heavy thou. I could take it and smash someone’s skull in. Or at least it won’t break if I were to rage quit a game.
And I like that it’s USBC
