My small brain says that Nvidia will develop a specific Arm core for datacenter/AI that will integrate with CUDA. Will they license that to others? Don't know.

Jensen is getting close to 60, I think he's going to pull together GPU/ARM/Mellanox and produce something awesome for AI before he retires.

I just want to say I'm a big fan of the Logitech MX series devices, the MX Master 3 mouse, and MX Keys. I've been using the MX Master for a couple months and I picked up the MX Keys today. I now have them wirelessly paired to my PC and Mac and I can switch between them with the press of a button.

The MX Keys is like a nicer version of the Magic keyboard that works with Mac and PC, they do have a Mac only version that comes in Space Grey but this one has the keys for both. They work over bluetooth and the Logitech unifying receiver, I paired them with the unifying receiver to my PC and Bluetooth to my Mac Mini.

I ended up getting a bunch of Best Buy rewards certificates so I was able to get the MX Keys and the MX Palm Rest for $5

It's got a backlight that adjusts the brightness according the light in the room, it'll turn itself off if the room is bright enough, and it has a proximity sensor where the backlight turns on when your hands get close to it.

Oh and they both charge over USB-C

Do KVMs exist that can share a keyboard/mouse and 2 monitors (1080P) between a Windows 10 desktop PC and a Macbook Pro(latest version)? If they exist, can you recommend one? This would be for home use so only needs to have basic functionality. The idea is that this setup would be business in the day (mac) and game machine at night (PC).

Yikes sounds tough. You'd need USB connection for the KM but Thunderbolt for the monitors, can one cable communicate with both protocols simultaneously? You wouldn't want to use USB C for protocols for the monitors, USB video adapters aren't reliable and of course they'd replace the GPUs of your PC, I hate them.

Honestly the Logitech MX Keys switches wirelessly between mac and PC fine

Other than that you'd need a KVM that sends displayport over TB3, you should be able to power both monitors with one cable

Two monitors, that's tough. Stunna's solution is the most convenient.

I use a magic trackpad and really prefer my mechanical keyboard, so my ghetto solution is two USB cables with magnetic connectors for the keyboard; one connected to the MBP, the other to my PC, then swap between the two. Mouse stays plugged into and used only with the PC.

Doopster,

Have you thought about just connecting the keyboard/mouse to the Windows machine and using RealVNC during the day to access the MAC? I have a mini with no monitor even hooked up, just RealVNC from a windows machine. It's seamless.

sucks that it's a desktop, as if it were another windows laptop with USB C, you could just get a USB C dock. Additionally, if your monitors have USB hubs built in and multiple display inputs, what you could do is switch the one cable from laptop to desktop and then flip the monitor input from multiple DP/HDMI settings (that's what I have to do as a lame workaround

That may be worth a shot. Does RealVNC support multi monitor?

How are external SSD speeds on a Mac USB-C(Thunderbolt)? I'm thinking about getting one of my kids a Macbook Air but the pricing of an internal SSD upgrade is robbery (+$200 to go from 256GB to 512GB). She won't need the storage now but if she ever needs an upgrade are external SSD drives fast on USB-C? Are thumb drives the same speed or does it need to be an SSD?

OWC has a TB3 SSD enclosure for about $80 and then get a decent m2 SSD. I have a few and they are fast

Well i think most M.2 NVME SSDs cap out at 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0. So that is a max theoretical 4GB/second transfer rate.

If it is a SATA based SSD, then that is a cap of 6Gb/sec
For Apple their USB-C ports are 3.1 Gen 2, so that has a max of 10Gb/sec

I wanted one of those, but it seems like its leaving so much extra performance at the table.
Says its a max of 1.5GB/sec when its possible to get 3.4GB/sec or so. I need to get my pr0n 0.86 seconds faster!

I actually got an enclosure off Newegg that's faster for your porn.

Check this out on @Newegg: Wavlink WL-UTE02 Type-C Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe SSD Enclosure, Thunderbolt 3 NVME External SSD, Heat Sink Integrated, 0.5m Thunderbolt 3 Pigtail Cable, Thunderbolt 3 Super Speed, Plug and Play https://www.newegg.com/wavlink-wl-ut...575-_-11012020

First time typing up a post on my iPad with a Magic Trackpad and a Bluetooth mechanical keyboard. Why didn’t I try this out sooner? Bluetooth, can sync with up to 3 devices. Compatible with both Mac and Windows. @doopstr

@Mizouse I went with hot swappable brown switches. Instead of having to desolder and solder new switches in, you can just use a tool to pull off switches individually. This allows your to experiment with different ones to see which one you like most.

Downside of using the trackpad on an iPad is that the gestures are flipped for scrolling, back/forward, etc.

Can you flip the controls in the settings like you can with a Mac?

”natural scrolling” it’s what it’s called in macOS. Doesn’t make sense to have it with a standard mouse.

Forgot that I enabled that on my MacBook that was like the first thing I did when I first synced a mouse to it.

Setting exists on iPadOS too - that was exactly it.

Was about to jump on the MX Keys but then saw that Logitech had an Ergo offering as well.. Curious if anyone else has an ergo keyboard suggestion (Microsoft Sculpt?) I currently still have a wired MS Ergo 4000 but would like to switch to a wireless one and retire this one to server/KVM use.

I’m left handed and ergo keyboards are right hand dominant bias so I can’t use them. I press the Y key with my left index finger which my typing teacher used to dock me points for back in high school

i wanted to get one but that reason alone stopped me from getting one. The ergo upright mouse looks interesting though. I think those have the same multi device features but I don’t think the keys are backlit which is also a deal breaker for me.

but the logi ergo and ms sculpt both look like nice keyboards. I almost got the sculpt earlier this year too until I realized the right bias it had

Also shoutout to the MX Master mouse scroll wheel. It's got a mode that makes the scroll wheel spin freely like a ball bearing or a fidget spinner which is great for quickly navigating long web pages while still offering precision to make small scrolls as well. I almost never turn that mode off. If I'm on AZ at the bottom of a 38 post thread I can scroll to the top with one flick of my finger on the scroll wheel. I don't have to scroll a lot or take my hand off the mouse to press the home key, and yet I can still make small smooth scrolls. So dope. IDK if the ergo mouse has that.

A couple examples: today I was just moving a client's contacts from iCloud to Outlook, he had 2700 contacts I had to scroll though in Outlook and organize, and yesterday I was scrolling through an excel spreadsheet with 43000 rows; you know how long that shit takes to scroll with a normal scroll wheel, yeah you can click on the scroll bar to a certain point or click and drag that scroll thing (IDK what that's called) but neither of those are as effortless or fast as this scroll wheel in fidget spinner mode. I'm like thing mouse more and more each day.

Still loving the keyboard too, only complaints about that is that sometimes the volume up/down buttons get stuck if you press them too fast and the only way to get them to stop registering is to turn it off and on again, if a press the slower then it doesn't happen, weird glitch. Also I'd like be able to change the backlight timeout settings, but those are minor things it's still great.

Set up my LG 38" ultrawide, absolutely love it.

Bought it over other UWs due to its size, refresh rate, and Thunderbolt connectivity. I knew you couldn't get the high refresh rate through TB, but was unaware that picture-by-picture mode with Displayport and TB was not possible.

Annoying. I was hoping to have one less wire on my desk and now I gotta use the HDMI dongle on my Macbook again.

Gonna build a new PC next year.

I'm thinking of getting a new monitor. Having a hard time deciding between.

25" 1080p 144hz
25" 1080p 240hz
27" 1440p 144hz/165hz

I was set on the MSI MAG251RX, but I don't have anything that would even remotely make use of 240hz and if i were to build a PC I wouldn't be spec'ed for 240fps.
27" would be nice. but my cheap ass is starting to think 25" 144hz should be plenty.

I probably should just go with 1080p 144hz option since I only game on PS4 Pro and soon PS5. So anything over 120hz would be a waste i guess.

27 inch 1440p 165hz. My opinion is bias though because thats what im using. Azine looks great on 1440p compared to 1080p just saying

+1 on the 27" 1440p. I have an Ultrasharp for years ago and it's fabulous for daily use.

it'll be weird jumping up to 27" for me.

I was considering the following 27" based off reviews.
MSI MAG274QRF-QD
Dell S2721DGF

Currently running dual 24" monitors. I have an old Dell U2410 that I want to replace now since I picked up a BenQ SW240 monitor earlier this year.

I guess i should measure my desk area and see if it could even fit.

Another vote for the 27", 1440p. Add in the 120/144 hz and that's perfect. It will be a noticeable difference for you... idk about 24", 1080p, and 240hz.

Was previously using a 24" 1080p TN panel that I had for years. The main thing I liked about it was the 144hz refresh rate. Can't go back to that.

And another one for the 27"....120+Hz and at 1440p is going to be long-lasting into the future.

Also to me screen real estate is still fairly high on my list...long as the other specs are not total crap.

I still rock a super old Hanns-G that's like 28" that's been 10-years old and even though it is only 1080p and 60Hz....the large size still makes it look fairly impressive in my eyes...and so I can wait a bit until I need to upgrade to 1440p+/120hz+ screen that's similar or larger.

Okay so anyone wanna school me on all the diff resolutions now?

So basically 1920x1080p is now like Dino world....so there's:

2560x1080
2560x1440 (1440p?)
3440x1440
3840x1600
3840x2160 (4k?)

Does it depend on how wide the screen is and the ratio for the final resolution?

Is 2560x1440 the most common higher end resolution? I'm assuming the 3840x2160 is the 4K big boy resolution where you need something like a 3090 to drive latest AAA titles at 100+ FPS??

2560x1440 is really common for 1440p
3840x2160p is 4k, yeah

From what I have seen, a 3080 is the minimum you would want for an optimal experience gaming at 4k. If your sliders at/near ultra, a 3080 will struggle to stay above 100 fps. Assuming at least 100 hz refresh too

Depends on the game though, this is just off the top of my head
