Fucking boomers love to use search engines to find a website instead of typing the full domain name. I have seen so many people search google for "facebook" and then click the first result instead of typing facebook.com in the address bar. They use search engines for everything. I try to explain it to them but they just look at me like I'm crazy, like I've been doing this for 25 years I ain't gonna stop now
Pro-tip: DO NOT USE A SEARCH ENGINE TO FIND THE LOGIN PAGE FOR YOUR BANK!
Search Engine poisoning is real. Just had a client almost/possibly lose 1.3 million dollars because an employee did a search for the bank login page click the first result it was a fake website designed to look real, typed in all her login info and the 2FA code into the fake website. Then the fake website displayed some kind of countdown screen where they said they were doing some security check and for the employee to wait until it's finished. That's not what normally happens. While that's happening the hackers quickly login to the real bank website while the 2fa code is still valid then tried to wire out about $430k. It got stopped because of security checks requiring 2 people to approve the wire before it goes out, but the hackers saw that there was $4m in the account so they weren't giving up that easy.
two days later (today) this client receives a targeted email bomb where they started receiving thousands of random junk emails from all over the internet in many different languages overwhelming them and goes on for hours. About an hour after the email bomb starts the hackers somehow log back in to the bank (not sure exactly how they did it yet) using the same account that we thought had been deactivated, then they start disabling the logins of other employees, resetting their passwords, register a new 2FA device and wiring out money up to $1.3m. Luckily this client expects emails from the bank at 9am everyday and if they don't get it they hitting me up within an hour, so while checking to make sure those important emails had been delivered in the midst of the email bomb I found all the legit automated emails about password reset, account deactivation, and new 2FA device sent from the bank. So they called the bank and tried to stop everything, now everyone is locked out of the account. The email bomb has mostly subsided after about 4 hours but they got about sent almost 17000 emails within the last 4 hours, mostly just to a few accounts. Wild morning.

No idea if this is the right place to put this or not but I'm in need of a new mesh wifi system as mine is starting to take a crap. What is recommended these days for a reasonably priced and well performing system that has good range and throughput. I'm not looking for super fast multi gigabit speeds but something that's capable of multiple streams to TV's and two people working from home.
I've been using a TP-Link Deco AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E 2-Pack, for over 2 years and have been happy with it. I use it in access point mode as I have a dedicated firewall (pfSense Community running on a Dell Optiplex)
There's probably a newer better version of it by now.

I recently installed a couple of Genie garage openers (Model 7155). They have wifi and I have the Genie Aladdin app installed on my iPhone which allows me to open/close the doors. Anyone know if there is a way to get this app to work with CarPlay? It doesn't appear to have the option to do that which seems silly to me.
I don't want to use the included remotes that came with the openers because then someone could simply break my car window, hit the button on the remote clipped to the visor, and open the door. My car doesn't have homelink. I know I should be using my garage to store my car instead of a bunch of shit but that's a different story.
If no CarPlay option can I configure Siri to open/close the doors?

Took this a step further. I added Homekit integration since I can use my Apple TV as a hub. There is no native support for Genie with Homekit. However there is a plugin for Homebridge. I have a raspberry pi 4 that I wasn't using so I installed Hombridge on that. Homebridge acts as a bridge to Homekit. The integration works great. As my car gets close to my house I get a popup asking if I want to open the door. My ultimate goal is to get the door to open automatically as I approach the house. It seems that can be done with some some trickery.
Homekit integration is also required if I want to tell Siri on Carplay to open/close the door. That seems stupid to me since Siri on my phone can do that without Homekit. Whatever.

With the recent Microsoft 365 price hike, help me get rid of One Drive. The thing I like about it is I have easy access to my files on my PC and iPhone.
I would use iCloud but last time I tried to use it I found the Windows version was complete shit.
I'd be fine with some kind of home based storage if my iPhone could access while I'm not at home. What are my options?

It can drop the cost by 30%.

Chromium based browsers (Chrome, Edge) will be blocking uBlock Origin and other ad blockers soon. A good alternative is to use a DNS server that blocks ads and trackers. I personally use and recommend DNSFilter since I resell it at work and I get a free license but here are some other alternatives

Once you go DNS based and set it up in your router then you get ad and tracker blocking for all of your devices on the network

also fuck chrome then, time to uninstall
I tried using Pi Hole but it became a pain in the ass with having to unblock stuff that stopped working. I've been using Brave browser's built in ad blocker for a few years and it works great.
Yeah that's the downside of pi hole, we used that for a little bit at work. That's what makes extensions so great, very easy to manage or disable. Unifi routers have an ad blocking feature now and enabled that for a client but it broke too many links so they complained.
I got ad/tracker blocking at the extension level, router level, and DNS level, I got DNS over TLS (DoT) running on a few devices so my ISP can't see what I'm doing and I got rules in the router and DNS level to block my Samsung TV from reporting back to Samsung.

We are aware of the recent false claims suggesting that a Brother firmware update may have restricted the use of third-party ink cartridges. Please be assured that Brother firmware updates do not block the use of third-party ink in our machines.
I'm going on my first flight in 15 years so essentially new to using modern tech on an airplane.
Is there a way to download/watch content from Netflix or Max on a M4 mac offline? I'd be fine with using a 3rd party app if its cheap and reliable. I see that this is possible with Prime App but i was hoping to watch some content from the others.
May resort to
if no other way.

I know on the iPad you can download some shows for offline viewing, not sure if that's allowed on a laptop. I don't have Netflix so I can't confirm but I think that's a thing that most services offer, the download likely has an expiration date of a couple weeks. Youtube premium does so I download youtube videos to watch on my iPad when I fly. I mostly fly Southwest and they have a service where you can get free iMessage and WhatsApp texting during the flight, and they got movies that you can watch on your mobile device in the browser and it only works when you're on the plane. Once you're on the plane join their wifi network and go to southwestwifi.com and from there you can enable the free texting and choose some movies and they'll play through the browser. I'm assuming the other airlines have similar services. You might need to go the
route if you want to do it on a laptop.
