Once you go mech, you... err, don't go back.

My only advice is to tinker with the function layer, whatever key it is. Get used to the arrow cluster input, and the home/end cluster. It will become second nature pretty quickly.

60/65% IMO is my favorite layout. The Mecha Mini looks clean too - some of the other Ducky models have that weird white panel along the base that visually clashes.

yea that’s why I went with the Mecha Mini over the One 2 Mini v2. Wasn’t fond of the white panel of the One 2 Mini which is due to the plastic frame it’s made from.

Also I got this keyboard mainly for gaming on my PS5, so the extra function and arrow keys won’t be used.
I’m still using the Apple Wired Keyboard with numpad for office work on my Mac Mini.
Keeping it Mainly because it’s 105 and has the stupid Apple shortcuts.

What do you guys think of this?

https://www.costco.com/samsung-34%22...100679273.html

Only $280!!! For that kind of resolution and ultra wide and good response....only issue is its only 75Hz.....is it worth more to get 120+Hz???.... But the price is VERY tempting....

If you’re gaming, yea it’s worth it to get more hz IMO.

also it’s a VA panel. Probably would be fine and you’ll have good contrast ratios.

also 4ms is slow. You’ll likely only get that at the fastest overdrive setting while sacrificing image quality with things like overshoot.

Also reading thru reviews the lack of a curve is a point against it since it’s a VA panel, image degradation at the edges is more noticeable with flat monitors, with a curve screen that degradation goes away/is less noticeable.

Dang ok....no wonder why its so cheap......so good for basic daily use (email, youtube, etc.) and not the best for gaming....

I need the Level 3 crew on this one as I'm about to lose my shit.
Setting boot order in the BIOS used to be very easy in that I could set check usb and boot if present, if USB is not there boot from hard drive. Why doesn't this exist in my PC?
I want my PC to boot from a USB stick if it's present. If it's not there boot from SSD. I know that I can press F8 and pick the device but I don't want it to do that.
I can go through this screen and set the boot order. The problem is that if I remove the USB stick the Windows Boot Manager will then find itself in the top option and it will stay at the top if I reinsert the USB. How can I set this thing to look to see if there is a USB stick and boot from it if it's there?

There's no generic USB Drive, USB HDD, USB FDD options?

Sometimes having secure boot on disables the USB boot.

Fucking boomers

I call this lady because she's having iPhone email issues after we migrated them to Office 365. She says she stops receiving emails after a while and has to restart her phone to receive Exchange emails again...ok weird
Then she says she can't print to her wireless printer....ok separate issue but I can look at it
Then she says the Internet doesn't work on her PC....
Then she mentions in passing that her MS Office apps aren't activated Internally I'm thinking WTF is going on I just called for your iPhone email issue.

Ok I try to walk her through a couple settings to check but that's almost impossible because she's boomer af
Luckily she has an iPhone so I can FaceTime her which helps me figure out that home router is unplugged and has no power.
Ok that's 2 problems solved.
Then she mentioned that she got scammed years ago by some fake tech support company that charged her $300 and claimed to be from Microsoft, and now they try to remote in to her PC every time she restarts it (I was just calling about her iPhone emails)
I get remoted into her PC after resolving the router issue and see that she has Office 2016 Professional Plus installed
That's a fucking red alert that she's got a hacked copy of Office installed, no one pays for the most expensive version of Office
I find a txt file on her desktop that's her receipt to when she was charged $300 by this scam IT company for them to install a hacked copy of Office that's no longer working....cool
So I do a bunch of work, uninstall hacked Office, run malwarebytes scan, disable startup programs, install monitoring software and BitDefender AV and all the while I'm thinking this PC is running a little slow, I should check the hard drive.
After all that I restart the PC and over Facetime I can see her BIOS alert her during bootup that her hard drive is throwing SMART errors
I WAS JUST CALLING TO FIX HER IPHONE EMAIL ISSUE!!
Now I have to go out there and replace her hard drive, reinstall legit Office, etc.
Fucking boomers...

About 20 years ago I thought about doing the personal IT support thing. I went to one customer, one.
Screw that virus stuff man, I hope you are getting paid by the hour. At my office if we get a machine with a virus we don't even try to fix it, it gets formatted or recycled. It makes our users extra careful since they know I don't give a fuck and that's what my team is going to do if someones laptop gets infected.

LOL yeah hourly.

I got pretty good at virus removal, I mean malwarebytes is pretty awesome and I got good at learning all the tricks they'd use to clean up the rest, it was like a battle of the minds, I wasn't going to let the virus win and I'd always learn something new about how Windows works in the process. Honestly it's so rare for me to see a virus infection now, they've moved to the pop up ads and having you call 800 numbers. I used to do them every month or so there'd be a new wave of virus infections, now I might do 1 or 2 a year.

Today I was mentally prepared for a 5-10 minute phone call but the more I talked to her the more fucked up I realized her situation was and I couldn't avoid it.

I wish it was boomers. I work around 30 hours a week at a group of retirement communities. Most of the work is to support the staff, but sometimes I help the residents. Most of the time they don't remember why they asked for my help.

It's always fun trying to translate what a computer illiterate person is saying so that it makes sense technically. I got a few grandmas/great grandmas I do IT for, I don't even try to listen to them describe the problem, I just try to remote into their PC ASAP so they can show me

The best thing I did in the last couple of years was get my mother-in-law off of a Windows PC and onto an iPad. I had my kid install all her streaming apps that she needs and I haven't heard a damn thing about it in over a year.

honestly not surprised. I stopped going there years ago, been burned one too many times buying brand name computer parts, only to have them fail or find out they were returns marked as new. or some bs like that.

In the tech industry (aka my old bosses used to tell me) that Fry's gets the B-stock of Quality Assurance items. Can't say I've fact-checked that, but i've never had a good purchase from them either so there might be some truth to it

I went to a Microcenter in NY once. What a dump. Prices weren't all that either. They used to have great deals per Slickdeals.

Microcenter currently is the most consistent way on having a chance to get any hardware. Just go there before they open on a weekday.

Their online stock indicator doesnt work.

I like the one in North Jersey but it's too far away from me (90-120 minute drive). It's in an urban development area so the NJ sales tax is half.

Exactly.

Thanks to @Yvuru I was able to join the microcenter discord and the local city channels are super useful. I've been following mine (KC store) and some tid bits of knowledge that may help others: (Your local store can vary obviously...)
  • KC store gets shipments in on M, W, F (sometimes weather or freak delays can cause products to come in 1 day late, unpredictable)
  • There are no guarantee that RTX 30-series cards will come on any given shipment date, some days there are 0
  • At least on one occasion there were supposedly no cards one day but somehow someone "found" a stack of RTX-30s in the back and it was randomly stocked on the shelves at like 11am...all sold out within minutes
  • The amount of cards is variable...basically very low...a handful...maybe 10-ish....no 3080s at all....3070 to 3060Ti (to now 3060)....varaible brands/models, unpredictable, the 1st in line gets their pick of the litter obviously
  • Online/website stock is basically 99% inaccurate
  • Generally being 1st in line means getting to the store latest 3-4am (store opens at 10am)
  • For the most recent RTX 3060 launch, people started lining up at about 4-5pm the day before, about 70-80 ppl in line about 1-2hr before store opening
  • Manager/employee handed out specific vouchers for specific brand of GPUs at about 8am, and you can ONLY buy that specific card (EVGA FTW3, Asus TUF, etc.) with the voucher, voucher is good for 8 hours (until 3pm or so).
  • The KC store enforces a daily limit (obviously) one ID per card per day. But other stores have stricter enforcement of how many you can buy in a week/month/etc. There are reports of the same dudes lining up weekly and then scalping it on craigslist/ebay
  • "Cutting" in line is a big no no, people put down lawn chairs to hold their place and you're supposed to wait in the car in the parking lot to "keep your spot" by watching your chair....there are speculation that some people basically put down a chair to "stand in line" and then leave and come back hours later...
Buddy and I might be trying to get one in May...I have a day off work on Friday so fingers crossed. I ain't taking a day off work to do this BS like some, lol

Yo I'm really thinking about selling my 2060 Super I bought last year for $400, it's going for $7-800 used on eBay. And beats the 3060 at 1080P non RTX games and keeps up in others.

If you have a spare GPU to use, I would.

$700-800 can get you a 3070 or maybe even a 3080 at non-scalped prices. Would be a significant upgrade.
