I've got a client that has a website that's still hosted on a 2k3 server. The developer was one guy who has moved on long long ago, however they still use this site and it's insecure as fuck. Recently they've been having issues where this site goes down much more frequently than usual. I had originally created a script that ran an iisreset daily and another script that reset the sql db connection daily as well, that worked for a couple year but not anymore. Now I'm seeing error messages about pool connections exceeded and the IP address in the error log often traces back to Russia or China. No one legitimately using this site should be in those countries. So I think this server is probably been infected with some sort of malware but nothing that I readily have access to will scan a 2k3 server. I actually found an old version of Microsoft's MSRT from mid 2015 that's supposed to be the last version that supported 2k3 and I ran a full scan with that and it found nothing. We moved this server behind a Meraki router and used it's Layer 7 country block feature to block almost all countries. And it was the Meraki that tipped us off that some shady shit was going on, it blocked the download of some malicious files from China and Ireland.
Anyone know anything that works good and still works on 2k3 servers? I'd like to see what if any infection this thing already has and if it's trying to reach out to China. Upgrading to a supported OS really isn't a possible solution, this damn site was supposed to be retired years ago, the developer left long long ago and my job is to keep it operational, but I'm not a developer so I can only do so much.
I found Clamwin and also learned there's a legacy version of Malwarebytes that still runs on XP and Vista. I was able to install it on 2k3. I may just go with that, and actually pay for Malwarebytes for once
The free version limits you to 17 hours of time per month, but I was previously paying $300 per year for LogMeIn for someone to log into one of my machines for less than 10 hours per month...
SUPER easy to get up and running. I need to figure out how to get it to start with Windows, but otherwise, it looks really nice.
OK, figured out the unattended access/run as service. Also, can reboot and resume access.

Update: I was misled. Malwarebytes requires at least XP SP3 to work properly. 2003R2 only goes to SP2 equivalent so some real time protection doesn't work.
But I've confirmed it works fine on XP SP3

I can also say that the site hasn't gone down since moving it behind the Meraki and blocking Russia and China from accessing.
have y'all noticed the price drop in SSDs? I buy one or two 240GB SSDs per week for work. They're $50 at Best Buy and you can get a no name branded one for 40 on Amazon. 2TB SSDs are now $300, a year ago 1TBs were $300, now they're about $170, 500GBs are around $80. There's an oversupply of chips, analysts are saying prices could drop to 8 cents per GB which would make a 2TB around $160.
Does anyone know of a way to (batch file, power shell, plugin, etc.) open three specific OneNote sections, each in their own window, when I want (either at startup or by using a shortcut)?
I have three OneNote windows open all the time, and each time I restart the computer I need to open them, but looking to automate.
FTR- I have OneNote 2016 pinned to the taskbar, and I right click and choose "OneNote 2016" three times, then in each window I choose the section page I need.
Actually, that did work, I needed to set OneNote 2016 as the default application for those shortcuts, though. Apparently there is some web app verison also installed.
Does anyone have access to a Retail .ISO of Windows Server 2019 standard? I want to use the new Server Migration Service but there's a bug and it doesn't work with the Server 2019 evaluation copy. I'm going to order a product key but it'll take a few days to arrive and in the meantime I can run the retail copy unlicensed for 180 just like the eval copy except it'll work with SMS.
@Anachostic don't you have a TechNet subscription?
If anyone can upload an ISO for me, it'd be much appreciated, I'd rather not wait a week for the key to arrive, I already lost a few days trying to get the eval copy working until I found that blurb about it
HP Warns That Some SSD Drives Will Fail at 32,768 Hours of Use
HP released firmware updates for a number of its Serial-Attached SCSI solid-state drives to prevent their failure at exactly 32,768 hours of operation time.
The devices are used in multiple server and storage products for enterprise, such as HPE ProLiant, Synergy, Apollo, JBOD D3xxx, D6xxx, D8xxx, MSA, StoreVirtual 4335 and StoreVirtual 3200.
I bought the 860 EVO for $230 from Amazon. It's still that price if you are interested. I really should have bought the cheapest thing that I could find but I like the EVO. M.2 NVME stuff is getting cheap. SATA SSD. I still buy the SATA drives so that I can pop them into an external enclosure if needed.
