Microsoft: Windows 10 News and Discussion Thread
Upgrade went smooth. yeah I decided to upgrade since it said it was going to ask for a product key for a clean install.
I didn't play with it hardly at all during the beta so this is my first time using it. Trying out edge...

Fixed the issue by doing a clean boot. Upgrading on my main now. Hopefully the reported second screen issue isn't there.
Laptop, I'm a bit more iffy on. HP ProtectTools isn't compatible, and that controls all the security like the FP scanner. That's the only way I logon to the computer, so uninstalling it makes me hesitate. Perhaps I'll get brave shortly, I'll see how the desktop upgrade goes.

Been reading up on Edge today.
-Extensions coming this year
-Extensions can be ported with a few minor tweaks from Chrome and FF
-No ActiveX, BHO, toolbars
-Includes Flash support (which I quickly turned off)
-Doesn't currently support Java
Here's an article on how Edge is more secure than IE 11 and in their opinion as secure as Chrome (both of which are way more secure than FF
)

And an article on potential new risks in Edge

From reading the links I posted...?
And from the fact that Firefox still doesn't operate in a sandbox/protected mode, which Chrome has had since launch and IE has had since 2006 with IE7.
Overall, we believe that Edge has reached a security parity with the Google Chrome browser, with both markedly superior to Mozilla Firefox.

So here we are 5 years later and it STILL doesn't run in a sandbox
What. The. Fuck.

Hmmm. Edge won't load any websites. Seems to be a DNS resolution problem, but I don't see how. I can type in an IP address and get a page, but no hostnames. I disabled my MVPHOSTS file, rebooted, and tried toggling the Smartscreen stuff on and off.
Firefox works just fine. What's silly is I can't "Open in Internet Explorer" unless I have a page loaded, which it won't load any pages. So I navigate to the IP address to enable the "Open in Internet Explorer" option, and then everything works in IE11, too.
This is an upgrade install over 8.1. I'd like to figure out what causes this problem before I wipe this laptop out and try a fresh install.
Ideas?

I humored you. It didn't find anything. However, I did figure it out.
I'm not sure when I made this change or why I did it, but I had shut off and disabled the DNS Client service. I think it was either some performance tweak or some effort to run the bare minimum of services, or troubleshooting a glitch somewhere. The purpose of this service is to cache DNS entries. It's never been required before; disabling it just forces every application to make a fresh DNS call to a remote server.
So, new OS, new rules. Make sure the DNS Client service is running. Edge requires it and I'll be willing to bet other bits will, too.

Updated and now my audio doesntnwork through the motherboard. Only comes out of the hdmi cable on my video card. How am I suppose to use my 5.1 speakers? Also tired to set the speakers to default and get an error. ITunes also won't run correctly.

So definitely feels like MS released this now so they could get it out in time for back to school or Christmas season. This thing is buggy, all sorts of visual glitches, and some freezing in Edge. Looks like it'll be pretty good once they get the bugs fixed.
But I'll probably be telling people to hold off for now...
